You came ready to play and were the best team out there tonight.
Ajax players embarassed themselves this evening.
The Cup goes to the Fury.
The Sanderson's were gracious and appreciative, John McCartney deserves huge KUDOS for his efforts, in arranging and coordinating the event.

John went way beyond the call of duty to enhance an entire network of peoples lives and most definitely the Sanderson Family! Congratulations John, you should feel proud for what you have contributed to make the legacy of Don Sanderson complete! Take a rest for awhile John and reflect on what your TEAM have accomplished by giving back! Well done!

I only wished that I could have been there to take in the celebration of this young mans life!

Game aside, it really was a terrific night.

Congratulations to the Fury, as well as to Taylor Law. He was announced as the tournament MVP, having led all scorers with 6 G, 13 A for 19 Pts., and will receive a bursary from the Don Sanderson Scholarship Fund for his efforts.

As HockeyGod said, Ajax players definitely did not make a very good showing. With the possible exception of Eagleson, who tried his best to get his team back into the game with two goals while the game was still quite winnable for the Attack, every single Ajax player seemed to phone it in. Carey Durant was NOT happy, as he really wanted the Don Sanderson Cup, big time.

Speaking of Carey, he was a class act all the way. As Whitby was awarded the Cup, a few Attack players started to skate off the ice. Carey called them back, and told them "This trophy is too important...I want you to shake their hands." Full marks to a man who far too often gets a bad rap in this league.

One thing I also really liked about the game was that even though the third period got a little chippy, there were no fights. I would not have enjoyed seeing a fight on Don Sanderson Cup night.

I wish the night was perfect, but alas, a few people took it upon themselves to try their hardest to ruin it. A number of fans from both sides (but a couple of voices in particular) were shouting obscenities back and forth in the stands behind me, once the game was out of reach and got a little chippy. Bear in mind, these were adults yelling, and a couple of times it got so bad I thought we were going to have fights starting in the crowd. To those adults who were yelling, if you are reading this, you should be completely ashamed of yourselves; I felt very embarrassed for you. There were a lot of children present at the game, and the example you have set for them was totally classless and childish.

But even those imbeciles could not tarnish this night, or the victory for the Fury. The trophy, which is a very nice one, will be hotly contested for years to come, I'm sure.

Sharpie, you are so right. Ajax not only embarrassed themselves on the ice but in the stands. Especially on this type of night. I wish the Sanderson family could have seen a better display of hockey and parental maturity. Thanks to Sharpie and JP for all there hard work.

Hockeygod or whoever you are, from where I was sitting and the way the game went Whitby had no reason to through out vulgarity so why don't you stop trying to "STIR THE CRAP". I didn't hear anything from the stands but there was a lot of vulgar language coming from the Ajax bench, anyone in the arena could see it was directed at the players and the officials. They should have been happy that the refs didn't toss them.

At the end of the day unfortunately, the game was not what everyone hoped for but in the end the meaning of the game was what really mattered. Let's not ruin the meaning of the game with adults that can't seem to get a long.

Congrats to Whitby 2009 Don Sanderson Cup Champs, but i think this what Ajax needed a pounding before the playoffs.

Maybe this will wake up this club and start playing as a team not bench warmers, seems this team has gone down hill after the trades, its to bad they were doing so well before that and maybe should go back to the drawing board before there out in 3 games.

The fact is, and the point I was making in my original post, is that adults who should know better on both sides, both Whitby and Ajax, were hurling vulgarities at one another. I could hear it from the timekeeper's booth. How it started, or who started it, I will not speculate, but it was unnecessary, and not at all in the spirit of the game or the event.

or whoever you are....
We are talking a bout Apples and Oranges here.
Linefight was stirring crap about the Attack fans chirping on the other side of the rink than you.
Before you spout off.... read, absorb, think, and then give a structured response.
If you can't do that, then don't bother

The loss to Whitby also killed any chance for Ajax to have home advantage against Bowmanville in the 1st round, Ajax better get things together real quick and also do whatever they can to take game #1 in Bowmanville!!

Do the Right Thing

You hit the nail on the head. I have been watching the posts on here and Carey did everything possible to make this night a good one for his team. I saw that they gave the Sanderson family Don's game jersey and a few signed pucks from the captain's.Yes indeed he also shook the Fury's coaching staff's hands and then made his team shake hands. The most important thing is that everyone who attended showed their respect for the game of hockey and the Sanderson family. All the people that where there are canadians who enjoy the game of hockey. The sad thing is after all the hype it took someone to loose their life for us to recognise how much this game means to us all.Donald Sanderson was a good kid and he was sacrificed by god to make all of us come that closer as humans in a world that is filled with hatered and voilence but at the end of the day his smiling face is what I will remember the most.

16-3, for the first time on the Cage I'm speechless. Never ever seen a score like this even in minor hockey.

Agree the new additions have screwed up the team chemistry. Durant needs to get rid of Gertzakis and Gatens. Dont have a clue what they're doing. Just baby sitters.
