Additional pledges have been rolling in, please keep them coming folks ..... Thank you!
It never ceases to amaze me how, when I stay the hell out of the way things "magically" (teehee) come together! Go figure! lol
Despite the chaos of being away from home it's great to see that such a dedicated group of volunteers were able to pick up the ball here in London when we couldn't commit to things as we have in the past!
Everything is set for an 8:00 pm start at Storybook Gardens tomorrow night! The weather is co-operating, it's beautiful here right now as there's been a fresh blanket of snow overnight after some heavy rain the past couple of days!
There will be pizza at the skate, Starbucks coffee and hot chocolate, Slippery the Seal - Storybook Gardens mascot, Bear the Sunshine Dreams For Kids mascot, Popcorn, music in the park, the petting zoo will be open, and of course ....... (I still chuckle at this) ...... the seals (all five of them) will be swimming in their tank adjacent to the rink, less than ten feet away! lol
Thanks again everyone! This is going to be an amazing alternative to Bramptons "Skate In The Park At Dark", but our intentions are to operate the skate at Gage Park again (in parallel with Londons Storybook Gardens) next year, once my job related priorities have been met here in Southwestern Ontario (hopefully by the summertime).
Everyone here in London has been so accommodating with the organization of the skate! From 102.3 BobFM right through to the park staff at Storybook Gardens!
When I first approached them with this crazy vision early last summer, they gave me the look that my wife "frequently" gives me whenever I have a "new idea"! lol. They did however warm up to the skates concept fairly quickly, and since then they've ran with it! (thank goodness)
Trying to explain to someone for the very first time what the skate is all about, who we support with the revenues and the concept of skating throughout the night often sparks up some very interesting facial reactions!
But if we can capture their attention just long enough (prior to having our a$$es thrown to the curb) to allow them to grasp the concept, then usually, more often than not, people can appreciate our objectives, which they have collectively done here in London!
Thanks again everyone, and hopefully we'll see a few visitors to "The Cage" at Storybook Gardens tomorrow evening!
