I can only count eight 1988 births on the roster. Furthermore, only 1 of them has not played for the Dukes in previous years, the goalie, Steele Defazio. We all know Wellington goes trough goalies like crazy. They send a lot to the next level!
Give Marty some credit. He is good at spotting young talent and developing it!

Wellington should be commended for having such a solid group of 20 year olds. They have 8 on the roster, but only play 7 and I assume Chris Brown is injured, so it works out well right now. As was noted only one was brought in this season, which demonstrates an excellent ability to develop the right type of players. I would not be surprised to find that a lot of them playing Division 3 next year when commitments are announced.

D3 can be a very expensive proposition for a Canadian kid but there are quite a few Americans on the Dukes roster so it would be less expensive for them.

Some institution charge the same rate to out of state students as they do international students, so in some cases it makes no difference. It is very expensive when all told, but the point is the kids are finding a place to play and earn their education past Junior.

having been involved directly with d1 d3 and canadian schools, i can attest to the fact that going south of the border to play hockey is not an inexpensive proposition unless you are one of the very few that get the "full ride".
there are not nearly as many of those awarded as you hear about from parents and players. a lot of the kids go down and pay for virtually all the costs.
a 2 for 4 at a d1 school can still cost around 10 to 20 grand u.s. per year.
some d 3 programs are around the same. depends on the school.
state schools are less expensive but some private scools have more leeway with how they allocate their funds for international students.
it is unfortunate that most kids and parents think that once they've made the choice to play at this level that they are pretty well assured that their kid will end up with a free education.
also there are huge differences in the quality of education between schools.
the experience of playing a varsity sport at a ncaa school is a wonderful thing and you will proudly wear the colors for the rest of your life. the opportunities of playing pro are available at any of the university systems and of course div 1 is the most scouted level.
it is not nearly as easy to get recruited as it was ten years ago and the competition for spots is much greater as the us programs improve and the cost to attend is a lot cheaper for residents. it should be as well. our schools are a lot more expensive to attend for international students.
the wellingtons, auroras (who i work for), st mikes, wexfords etc put a lot more players through than some others and are more heavily scouted because the schools have had previous success with players from these programs and know when they come to watch there will be players good enough for their programs.i speak to the schools on a daily basis and they do not have the time or the budgets to waste time going to games where there may be but one player to watch. the good teams place more kids and because they place more kids more good players want to play there which makes them a good team etc etc etc

Clearly your son-in-law Coach Dupont is God's gift to the world of coaching. No one will ever be better than him and we all know he is moving up to the NHL tomorrow! We are all overjoyed to read about this amazing miracle working man all the time! YAHOO!
The poster perhaps miss-typed something. But give credit to Marty. He is a very good coach and he knows how to get the best out of his players. The Dukes focus on moving players to the next level and they are very good at doing so. You say you do not have a problem with Marty, but you clearly have a problem with the Wellington organization.
Just calm down and watch some great playoff hockey. Its a lot of fun!

Someone posted that Marty had won National Championships. Is it a crime to be interested in what he had won? As I said before I met Marty when he coached the Canada East team with JD, my daughter spent a lot of time with him out West during the World Tournament.
Why is it everytime something about Marty comes up and is questioned, the whole thing takes on a "cloak & dagger" atmosphere? everybody comes to his defense like soldier ants defending their queen. Is Marty "on the lam" or something?
Wow, ask a simple question and "duck"!!!!
Forget I asked.

SMC, just be lucky you are talking on this forum and not the other one. Everything is always cloak & dagger with that guy.
I once asked a very simple hockey question about Marty on Wexdog's forum and he took it down and emailed me to say that we are not allowed to talk about Marty there and Marty has threatened to sue if we do talk about him?
----
"A handful of those who coached alongside him, and were repelled by Mr. Frost's tactics, simply quietly severed their own ties with him; others were intimidated into silence by what they describe as his crude and explosive behaviour or the "lawyer's letters" that they say even as a teenaged coach in Brampton Minor Hockey he routinely threatened to send; they say many more, including parents, tolerated his conduct because he promised he could take their sons to the NHL and because his teams were successful."

This is strange. It's labelled as Candid Interview with our Marty. But Marty says nothing in the audio interview. A very nice puff piece though! http://pioneerplus.ejournalism.ca/?q=node/1769
True Coaching will come out tonight Ladies and Gentlemen, say what you will but Cameron has to come uo with a way of motivating his troops and provide a game plan that will let them live another day. Coach MA has to attack while his foe is down and wounded and continue to come at them until the final buzzer.
Carlos knows how to pull the Oakville strings, will he be able to pull the right ones tonight, will he be able to come up with a way to get the boys to get the job done, get them up but not too up, will they be able to focus on the job at hand in the most important game thus far for the Blades and make no doubt it is the biggest. Now can Coach Richmond mustard his troops to see the true importance of this contest, yes Gtown has played wonderful all year but thats all out the window now, if Gtown lets this game tonight slide by, it's going to be a long up hill battle, I hope for the wonderful Ownership of Gtown do they come up with a win in O town but it will and it does come down to how these Coaches get the messages across and what players respond. Oh Baby Oh Golly should be a good time tonight|!
