Please be advised that in accordance with the Ontario Provincial Junior 'A' Hockey League (OJHL) Constitution Article VII, Section 3(c)-Change of Venue- that the application for Change of Venue by the Port Hope Predators to Duncan McDonald Community Centre, Trenton On. has received the required 2/3 majority vote in support and accordingly, is OJHL approved.
For the record at the close of voting 9:00 PM Friday March 20/09, 31 teams voted in favor, 1 team voted against, 4 teams did not vote.
"We are very excited and thank our League Partners for their support" stated Trenton's Jr. A Director of Operations/Alternate Governor, Tim Clayden.
OJHL Chairman Lloyd Stockley re-iterated "We are excited to have a franchise back in the city of Trenton. The Predators have been a successful organization over the years and the OJHL is confident they will continue with that success in their new location."
It should be noted that under the OJHL Constitution Article VII, Section 4, paragraph 5 that the OJHL retains the right to place a team in abandoned Franchise locations. The OJHL has so exercised such said Constitutional right onto this matter.
It should also be noted that in accordance with Article VII, Section 3, last paragraph, that as the change of Venue is now approved by the Board of Governors, "no objection shall be made by any member team to the League , to the OHA, or any other Governing body."
"The standards of Provincial Junior A Hockey are changing, practicing 4 times a week during prime time with the added Arena advertising incentives that the City of Quinte West has afforded our franchise will allow our club to maintain a strong on ice development program as well as sound financial opportunities that will surely help ensure the fiscal success of this program for many years to come, economically speaking, this move had to be made" added Clayden.
"Mayor John Williams along with Mr. Doug Whitney and Trenton Hawks Minor Hockey President Bevett Horner went out their way to make us feel welcome and comfortable all the while helping to ensure this franchise had long term concessions that will keep Junior 'A' hockey in the
Trenton community for many seasons to follow."
