North York Jr A

Just noticed North York has a new coach on their website. Says coach has sent players to Major Junior and NCAA or college. Don't understand this as new coach has only coached one year at minor midget Rangers, how can this be? Why would they pick a coach who never made it to playoffs, checked standings, finished in 10th in minor midget. What was the issue here?

North York Rangers Announce New Coach

We are pleased to announce that Patrick Arbour will be assuming the responsibilities of Head Coach for the upcoming season.

Patrick is well-known in the North York Rangers organization for his development skills, having sent a number of previous players to Major junior and University programs.

We wish Patrick successful 2009-2010 season.

north york are a very low budget team but they do manage to be competitive .
coaches spend as much time coaching a jr a team as they do in a full time job. unless they are being paid a half decent wage then they either go to minor hockey where the money is the same or better with less hours involved or they quit alltogether. there are scads of minor coaches to replace them at a very low cost as they see it as a step towards a full time job. doesn't happen that often. chicillo , williamson and dupont have gone up to major junior with success and a few others have gone and flopped (carnevale) but usually thats after a trip to the rbc!! not going to happen at north york.

It stats his development skills have assisted in getting those players to those places. It does not indicate he was their head coach or that he even coached them.

just talked to a buddy from the rangers, pa coached the minor midget rangers, first time coaching in the rangers organization, did not make playoffs. only player developed for rangers by pa was floro the goalie from previous years titan midget team. never made playoffs that year as well. no players developed that went on to major or college. just trying to figure this one out. why do managers feel they have to communicate made in the pie stories to recruit players? why hire a coach that last two years in minor could not make playoffs?

North York seems to rollover coaches on an almost annual basis. Every new one comes in with fanfare and leaves with his tail between his legs. Maybe it's Henry who should go?

Grad likes buying snake oil from many sources. The new coach is a money guy. You will need to go to his hockey and training schools over the summer and spend $$$$$$$$$ with hope as the carrot.

Arbour used to coach with the Markham Majors for a number of years prior to joining the Titans or North York. He did pretty well with what was considered not the greatest of players & in fact brought their Midget AAA team to the league finals in 2006 or 2007.

Hearing from players on that Majors team the coach ran a highly talented team into the ground and was saved by the assnts nelson and shermann. It was nelson and sherman responsible for getting them to the finals.

Forgot to mention that the entire Markham team threatened to quit at Christmas of that season if the coach was not more respectful to players, team officials and parents.

Poor record

Pat Arbour coaching record last 3 years:

Markham Majors(8th place)playoffs with Nelson and Sherman(06-07 season)Midget
Toronto Titans(9th place) (No Playoffs and no Nelson and Sherman)(07-08 season)Midget
North York Rangers(10th place)(No playoffs and no Nelson and Sherman)08-08 season MM

Arbours getting worse as a coach and they reward him with a coaching position. Go figure.
