Just turned the game on TV. Apparently Oakville's Kellan Lain had his wrist slashed early in the first period by a skate. Any word or update on his condition or how the incident happened?

We were standing in the corner when Lain scored and we did not see the actual cause- even looking at the tv monitor behind us- but we guessed he was accidentally cut by Defazio's goalie skate- a scary incident for sure.

Talked to a fan from Oakville who seemed close to the player and said he was transporter to Oakville Hospital via ambulance with a severed artery in his wrist after his wrist was cut by Defazio's skate blade. Big loss for the Blades as his season is likely done

I heard after game was he was cut down to the artery but the artery was not cut itself. It was a concern at first but the staff didn't take the time to find out after they started applying their first aid at the bench.
A scarey incident indeed. Seeing the replay like said above you can't see exactly what happened but its clear he lost his balance after scoring and put in arm down to break the fall a bit and difazios leg was right there. Even still Lain himself didn't know he was cut right away as he celebrated with his team for a second in the corner before the gloves came flying off and he made a b-line for the bench. If you see an injury like that you have to give credit to the quick actions of the staff too. They picked up on the fact that something was wrong as he skated to the bench (not that it was hard with the amount of blood on the ice) but when he got there they were ready and didn't hesitate for one second and had the ambulence there in a matter of minutes. So best wishes to kellan lain. Here is to a speedy recovery becuase you had really played some great hockey in these playoffs. And kudos to the staff for taking care of this kid quickly. If it had indeed been his artery there is no doubt they would have saved his life. Good luck the rest of the way all of you.

He was immediately treated at the Blades bench by trainer Dr. Ben Fryer, who wrapped the wrist and rushed Lain to the Oakville dressing room. Lain was then sent by ambulance to Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospital, where it was determined that he had a severed artery and cuts to tendons and ligaments.
He underwent surgery Tuesday and was scheduled to have another operation this week.
Good Luck on a speedy recovery...
