..according to a recent Spec article the 'best player never to have made it to the NHL'. Played for Canadian National team, a Finnish team for two years, Nova Scotia and Springfield in the AHL, several teams in Germany and Switzerland and most recently the Dundas Real McCoys. His son, Josh, plays for the Cougars.

Another parent sure, but his son made the team and contributed without his dads help. His dad was, maybe still is, a scout for vancouver so he has the credentials. This scenario is far different from other parent son in the op

Josh is a great player. His ice time steadily increased as this year progressed. He will get significant ice time next year and not due to the fact his dad is the coach. Any coach would play this kid a lot. He works very hard.

I am not saying i like the fact his dad is the coach. I really dont like the fact of someone coming in here and coaching just because your son is on the team. I would really like to see some stability in Burlington and a coach that will be here not just for the next few years but for a significant amount of time. I thought we had that in John Mac. I guess not.

Mark was well established with the Cougars program & his son's inclusion on the team this past year was definitly helped because of it. I would say he is far from a great player, but he does have the ability to play Junior hockey & belongs. Then again so do other kids that have had road blocks & obstacles rather than cleared paths. From what I know of his father he will not be your typical "parent" coach that can't see past his kid. But, the potential for a scholarship may give his dad a bit more incentive to favour him somewhat.

Jooris, played at RPI in the mid 80's.
Played on there explosive teams that won 3 straight ECAC titles.
He won a NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP that was played in Detroit at the Joe.
He'll be a good coach!

Yep, great playing career, great dad, great NHL scout, friend with the Wave people, but WHAT has he done as a coach/gm?
Isn't that what he was hired for?

Like being a great taxi driver, watches nascar races, owns a car, but I dont know if I want him working on my car.....so HOW is he a great choice? For those of us who do not know him in a coaching capacity, how will he help the Cougars reach their potential?
