My friend Ron and I were sitting down to breakfast this morning at the Red Dog Inn this morning.
Along comes Vees' #20 Jarrett Burton's dad Tim and we get started on an animated conversation about the Vees. Then along comes a knowledgeable fellow from Georgetown who really has some great insights into this league.
He is a high-ranking official and I have been asked, by him, not to mention his name so Tony, over In The Cage, and all those in Georgetown can try to guess whom it might be.
Another fellow comes along from Mississauga Lloyd Stockley and we all have a great gab for about three hours.
Then a fellow named Zoltan Kovacs, who has a son playing for the NOJHL champion Sault Ste. Marie Thunderbirds joins us. For those who do not know him, he is a close personal friend of former junior coach and Ottawa Senator coach Craig Hartzburg. He has major junior hockey experience, both as a player and a coach.
He told us a story about his playing days. He was playing against the Toronto Marlies' junior team at Toronto's old Maple Leaf Gardens. That was in the days of when they played afternoon junior games at the Gardens on Saturday. It was often before ten or twelve thousand fans. Well, Zoltan scores a goal and his name goes up on the electronic board. He watches it in awe but the game continues without him. He is gazing in awe at the board while the game passes him by. Needless, to say, it was really funny hearing him tell it.
This is only day two at the Dudley and it has promise of only getting better over these next three days.
I will try to keep all of you in the loop.
I have the heavy responsibility of making sure all the forum's contributors and readers have a little inside glimpse of this thing called the Dudley Hewitt Cup.
Stay tuned.
