Seeing as there will be an influx of 20 yr olds now available to move from the Central to the Classic, or even elsewhere for that matter, will these players now become free to sign wherever they wish or will the Central teams still hold the player's rights even though they will not have space for them?

My uderstanding is any teams that have 19 yr olds that were on their rosters last year 2008/2009 season making them 20 yr olds in the 2009/2010 season are still property of those clubs, and if the teams need to cut down the 20 yr olds on their roster this year due to the OPJHL forming development divisions, these players will be traded or released outrite which would make them as you say a free agent player.
Most of these players will likely be traded to clubs that do not want to go with the new developement division clubs in the OPJHL.

they have to clear waivers first within the central (any other central team gets first crack) and they have a set trade cost and mechanism. i doubt any players will move out of central.

Jenkins made his bed in regards to Ajax, yes he was a very good goaltender but his attitude got him traded real quick....you will all say ok because of Adam Stein....WRONG.. because Jenkins puts himself before the team his own glory glad he is gone, maybe Ajax will play better as a team without crying because they did not play me!
One word for Jenkins... have fun with Villanova you are going to work your ass off know buddie no ****,nothing in front of you,now so whom to complain to know only yourself,Ajax will do fine without you!!

Wingfan if you are a wing fan you have bigger problems than to worry about Jenkins, your club was a complete joke this year, and i would have to say next aswell!

my wings are stanley cup champions and looking to repeat. i dont cheer for teams that daddys run the bench, the room and purposely lose a series and totally disrespect every player on his team and his coach and manager. it sends a terrible message that as long as you're rich then you can walk on anyone. by the way...starbucks is pulling out of canada so change your name to "plazaguy"

under the current rules any player not carded by a team must be released upon request...so teams with too many graduating 19 yr olds will be handcuffed into letting them go free agents.....also same for the 18 yr olds, remember they're going to cap 19 yr olds as well !!!!!

I have heard that many 19 & 20 year old players in the CD are calling teams in the Ontario Division and inquiring about trades out of the Central, some are top players on their teams.
Does it look to anyone else or just me that the actual new Division is the Ontario one and the CD looks like the old league with to many teams.
I hope during the Rookie camps that are underway now 16 year olds are not being mislead and told there will be 4 on each team as we all know CHA needs to approve rulechanges like that.

You can't blame the 19 and 20 yr olds enquiring as to trades to the Ontario Conference, why wouldn't they, the writing is on the wall for a lot of them in the Central. It's good news for the Ontario Conference and will surely strenghten all the teams in the Ontario which is good since they will be the teams contending for the DHC and the RBC in the end.
I agree the Central now looks like the old league and the Ontario looks like the new league that everyone wanted, a strong league with lesser teams etc. You know the expression "a drug deal gone bad"? well it looks like the Central Division has become "a hockey deal gone bad".
I hope as you say, that the 16 year olds in the Central are told up front and truthfully regarding the number of 16 yerar olds that will be allowed. Also I hope they are told about the rumblings of possibly charging the 16 year olds to play in the Central.

Not sure about the OHA ruling regarding players paying to play, but I know that the Central has been talking about possibly charging the 16 yr olds only to play. Maybe they will apply to the OHA for permission to do so, if there is in fact an OHA rule that prevents charging players to play.
Maybe it is a "dead" issue at this point, but it was certainly discussed by the Central.

A: Yes, BCHL players are required to pay a one-time registration fee, payable to the BCHL, upon registering with any of the leagues teams. The Fee is pro-rated by the length of the season and is partially refundable should the player cease to be registered during the season."

the difference is that that is for the league. not to the TEAM!!! its an equal playing field that doesnt create a situation that this team does and this team doesn't.
just like paying players it shouldn't happen and i agree with the central on what they did in newmarket when that situation arose.

yes pm i agree with everything you say. you are absolutly the most knowlegable person anywhere when it comes to hockey.
i hope your LEAGUE does become a league on its own, then there will be no argument that it will be a nice step for young players to develop before playing junior a hockey! maybe then there will be no 19 or 20 year olds and it will be midget hockey officially!
