Players in the dark

All this talk about the Central and Ontario conferences and has anyone bothered to outline the waiver process to the players and that this Friday is the date that it goes into affect. Right now players have to approve a trade but how does it work now with the waiver wire. If a player is picked up by some team does he have to report? If a player wants to switch conferences how does he do that if he can't clear waivers? Does he just refuse to report? That won't go over well for anyone involved.

Maybe someone in the know can explain the process as there are players out there that want to move but might not know it could be difficult to do if the preferred destination is outside the conference.

Is someone trying to tell us that players can't be traded between conference after Friday?????
Teams will find a way to get around this if so....from BOTH conferences, you gotta know that!

I am sure it will happen. But as a player if I am on a Central team and want to go to the Ontario group, what happens if I don't clear waivers and don't want to report to Dixie? Do I have to wait until I clear waivers before I can get traded out of conference? If so, that could potentially be a problem given the anamosity on both sides. Same question applies if I am on an Ontario team and want to play in the Central, assuming the Ontario group adopted the same waiver rule. Perhaps they didn't.

If this is true....the league will probably need to get ready for alot of hearings this season.

I see the only reason one of the Conferences would put a rule like this in place is because they are affraid all the good players may want to jump ship????

i think the waiver rule is only being adopted by the central division. it is one of the "unique" rules that they have added .

I agree with "property of" the Central has put the waiver rule in in order to stop players on the Central from jumping to the Ontario.

I guess they must be expecting an "exodus" to the Ontario, especially 19 and 20 yr old players who will be "capped".

Just another move by the Central owners to control at the expense of their players.

This is easy. If you are a peewee player call Marty!!!

If you are a Junior A aged eligible player call any Ontario Conference team for a future in the OJHL and beyond.

The Central had a waiver system in place last season, but I would bet it was never used very much.

With the Central's new capping rules on 19 and 20 yr olds, I would imagine that the system will used many times next season.

The term "waiver system" shouldn't be used because it implies that players are released and could be claimed by another team without a choice.

The system is actually an agreement that other teams in the Conference have first right to negotiate a trade before the player can be moved to another conference or league.

Players have the right to refuse to report. So, just because another team in the Conference wants them doesn't mean they have to go. If a player is traded to another team in the Conference and would rather go the other Conference, they simply refuse to report and supply a list of teams they would report to. The trading team could then oblige or sit the player, which would result in an OHA hearing. There are very valid arguments and some not so valid ones.

Well, Kev, the way you describe it, it sounds like it is a waste of paper and time to even discuss or have the rule????
