Gumbley , Vic, Frank & Lou will take there show on the road....to a different province....where there not known....
Goes to show....how a personality disorder thinks....
When they got busted for the fake league in April 2008 one would think they would back off.....

NOPE.....

More damage to the kids and parents of hockey...

If the court system goes easy.....rest asure...a new province will be targeted...there learning from there mistakes...it will get worse....

i am not going to defend these people but it sounds like hockey canada blocked their participation because they were not sanctioned.when/if the people organizing the trip knew about it is not known. the earlier trip in the spring sounds like it went with no problems.
the parents who signed their kids up for this trip have to accept some blame for it as well. who hands over $3500 to go on a trip with such a vague itinerary. all they knew was they were going somewhere in europe to play 4 games of hockey. they had no hotel info,no hockey schedule and obviously didn't check out the people running the trip. when were these players "scouted" before they were asked to participate ? did they ever meet these "scouts" or was it all phone calls, faxes and e-mails ?
the people running the trip are very shady but if not for hockey canada's intervention the games probably would have happenned so i think proving a fraud will be difficult because the "contract" they have with the organizers is not very specific.hockey canada needs to step in and suspend these people from being involved with anything under their juristiction.

it sounds to me that that is exactly what hockey canada did!.thank god they have the balls to do what they can to prevent this type of thing from happening.our messed up league , however , just keeps allowing this type to be involved.
we could write a book about the characters that have been involved in the opjhl or whatever it is to be called now.
with the news coverage this has received even last night on the national news then hopefully people will smarten up when shelling out thousands of dollars for hockey.
when the powers that be finally decide on the restructuring of junior hockey in ontario next year i hope a major determining factor is character and sound finances backed up by a commissioner with the balls to severly punish those that cause embarrasment to the game.
we wouldn't be in this mess if the current people had or were willing to enforce the rules!!

It's ugly

There is a not so fine line between supposed "legitimate" businesses in Hockey and "sanctioned" events. The lines are blurred and there will always be those that will test the IIHF and HC's resolve. HC has the bigger gun but it's wheels work within the system.

That system is slow.

That system may need to create an investigation committee that has autonomy and power to bring those in contravention of HC rules to the attention of local communities.

I wonder what the OCHL is going to do about the whole Dixie mess.

Dixie sure doesn`t fall within their rules of accountability, integrity etc, etc, etc.

With 21 teams to govern, it`s only the beginning for the OCHL, their will be more similar problems.

Why is it that every issue is reduced to a we Vs they for you.
These guys operated a scam against any and all ,try giving
it a break.
I dont have any connection with any team but do attend some games in Newmarket. I go to see a competative team not whose team has the best
mission statement.

Although these guys(The Carnival) may have been able to up and move to a different province in the past I do not believe it is still possible to go undetected. The hockey community is small and now with the internet it is even smaller. They would be found out before long, afterall would we not be "looking" for them so we could warn the next community.

If I were a parent on dixie I would verify the coaching resumes of all on staff, if I dont miss my guess Vic is not the only guy there with bad creditals or ones not quite acurate.

The dumbest of them all are the hockey parents. Why would you send your kid to France to play hockey? France? 20 to 30 scouts to watch these players in France? You all deserve what you got.

It appears that no one advised these young guys or well meaning parents to check out any program that costs real dollars. The up side to this is that it got a lot of local press so perhaps a cycle of players or two has been warned.

Let's face it. With this program, the accused raised the bar.

- They had sent a group earlier with rave reviews. But I don't know if anyone verified those successes.

- One allegation is that different names were used by the ownership of OCS. Possibly a legal name change? If so then this is yet another example of how well the owner planned. If not...then's it simple conspiracy to do something.

- They got the players/parents to sign a contract. Can anyone provide a copy or print the text of that contract here. It they worded it where nothing was promised then it would be tough to say what they are guilty of (anyone read a HC players card before they signed it lately?). But that doesn't negate the text on their web site or even verbal assurances of scouts, games and such. It's just tougher to prove the details.

- If a crime has been committed then this is a good one to get a conviction because there is more than one culpable person, grill them all and offer a deal to the one that squeaks the loudest.

Some types of fraud feed on the "greed" of the buyer. Sometimes it money. Being part of a secret deal or program. In this case allegedly the players were contacted and told that "they" had been chosen. Pursued by the team organizer. Since this player likely has been unchosen in their recent past he takes the bait.

Next the organizers talk up the program and tell them how it's important that they sign up now, time is running out, others would jump at the chance and we have to move on if you can't come. "Hurry up Dad or my last chance to make it big will be lost!" Guilt and a deep pockets take a terrible toll on common sense. The hook is set and they get reeled in.

At the last minute opportunities arise for intelligence to take charge. No mention of what cities they will play in. All references list "host city". Nothing specific except times and general terms like. "Check in Hotel (but not which hotel) Load Bus, Travel Day, Team Breakfast - Team Dinner". It all looks great for a first draft...but where are the details. This is where faith drops in. Faith in the organizers. Faith in the sport. Faith in the system that they think is part of it and finally, faith in their $$$ that they have been promised service in return. Now you're in the net.

Pretty soon, the situation goes awry and you hope to just get back to where you were without losing anything else. Of course, your pride may never quite be what it once was and that local college application looks better every day.
