Game not on Pointstreak, the ice has not been put into our main rink yet so we were on Pad #2 where there is no internet connection.

St. Mike's 5, Whitby 4

Just a few observations.

1) Whitby has gotten a lot bigger over the summer. A lot of the returning players have grown over the summer. Once they can learn to "play big", they are going to be a very strong force in the CCHL.

2) Whitby jumped out strong, leading 3-1 after the first, but seemed to be deflated by hitting the post twice within a couple of minutes early in the second. This let St. Mike's back in the game.

3) A tough break led to the game winner, as the Whitby goalie couldn't corral a rebound that ended up straight on the St. Mike's player's tape.

4) It was quite a chippy, hard-fought game, with a lot of very hard hits. It almost seemed like regular season intensity out on the ice. Good to see guys actually battling during pre-season.

Your observations are bang-on Sharpie. I got there with about 10mins gone in the 1st. Definately bigger on the back end and a couple of forwards as well...seem to be more aggressive than last season-just finishing checks (another year of confidence goes a long way)

One thing I noticed is that they had a lot of guys paying the price last night...going to the front of the net, into the corner, etc. What they still need is that one guy that lets the goalie see nothing but his jersey number and cannot be moved, and I am hoping to see one of the vets step into that role this year.

Looks like the Fury got it back against St. Mike's, beating them 5-4 in OT last night.

One thing of note, the Fury had a 4-1 lead after two. With what I saw Thursday night, I hope that is not a trend where they play soft with the lead. If they can't find that killer instinct to put a foot on the opponent's throat when ahead in the game, they will have a hard time finding consistent success this season.

Friday's game was very similar to Thursday's - I think the shots were 34-16 for the Fury after 2 periods and at St. Mike's that is very unusual (if you know what I mean). Then the home ice advantage kicked in during the 3rd as 3 consecutive PP's for the Buzzers resulting the 3 goals to tie the game.
