Bowmanville Showcase

I took a look at the schedule and noticed that many of the teams 14 to be exact had games the night before the showcase games. Some teams travelled some distance so made for a late night and possibly an early morning. Why would the league schedule any games the night before? If there are all these scouts attending the showcase I would think they would want to see the teams well rested and playing their best hockey. I caught some of the early games Ajax/Dixie, Whitby/Streetsville and Cobourg/Burlington and besides Cobourg/Burlington the other games looked very sloppy. I'm sure whatever scouts where in attendance they would have been disappointed. I'm sure this is not something new but not a good showing for some of the players!!

My observation only, what do others think?

Ajax will not use that as an excuse. Their intention was to be prepared and win the game, and the bottom line is that did not happen, no matter what circumstances were surrounding the game. Scheduling is not an excuse that Carey Durant or anybody else in the organization would consider acceptable.

I didn't say it was an excuse Sharpie, I'm saying many of the players looked tired and therefore the games looked sloppy. When you play the night before and game ends at around 10:00 - 10:30 in the evening and then need to be ready to play at 9:00 in the morning, my friend your body does not have enough time to re-coop.

Never used the word excuse Sharpie! Coach Durant or any other coach can prepare players all they want but the body needs time to rest my friend. Friday should have been a non playing day for all teams period!

god it was cold in that rink yesterday!!!!!!!
not nearly as many scouts there as were in oakville on friday night and some pretty crappy games.
wellington / hamilton was ok as was the orangeville game.
the bowmanville people were very professional and well organized .
some good players scattered through the teams but in some cases it is hard to judge as the weaker teams are not able to keep up and it makes it look too easy for the legit players.
should be some better hockey today in oakville.

"should be some better hockey today in oakville."

Just judging by the three games I worked on Pad B, I would doubt this statement.

In three games, I saw...

- Three spectacular goaltending displays...Ginn against North York, Fryia against Newmarket, and an outstanding 53 save shutout by Matt O'Connor of Upper Canada against Pickering

- A very intense battle between Lindsay and North York that was a lot closer than the 4-1 score would indicate...in fact, if not for Ginn, this one could have been 10-4 for NYR

- A valiant comeback by Peterborough, stymied only by a shootout goal by Bowman Webster that had even the kid in the Peterborough jacket on their bench going "WOW"

- A whole lot of excellent, crowd-pleasing hockey

In fact, the only people who could have possibly not enjoyed the showcase in Bowmanville are those who went in with predisposed ideas about what they were going to see, and who refuse to see anything good in CCHL hockey or be in any way objective. That wouldn't be you, would it wingfan?

sharpie some good things absolutly but if you think that the ucc pickering game was junior a quality i'm afraid your opinion differs from a lot of the people who were there. yes the goalie was good but even with the shutout his gaa is still over 5!!!
with the elimination of up to 84 20 year olds and the mandate to play 42 16 year olds the quality of the cchl is not as good and as it continues to lessen more of the good players both young and old will gravitate to the better hockey in order to develop and get to the next level.
soon the cchl waiver rule will be challenged as it is nothing more than a panic rule to try and keep players in that league.

i know you will disagree sharpie but it is the facts.
after yesterday there are a lot of teams that will basically not be scouted as there are no college level players on the teams or so few that are dime a dozen that they can find those on the fourth line of a good team and maximize their time!

Wingfan states......"with the elimination of up to 84 20 year olds and the mandate to play 42 16 year olds the quality of the cchl is not as good and as it continues to lessen more of the good players both young and old will gravitate to the better hockey in order to develop and get to the next level"

I am in complete agreement with Wingfan. I have caught a number of games so far in the CCHL and am very disappointed with the quality of play. The passing at this level has been horrendous. The same birdbrain penalties taken are the same taken in Juvy hockey. The coaching, especially in durham, is very weak. Though out of the 3 durham teams Pickering, Ajax and Whitby I think Durant in Ajax is off to the better start.
