This information just came across today, I only just got the call and I am quite shaken up about it. Joe C is a very good friend, and called me personally to tell me the news. I am not going to go into details about this, I'm sure the rumour mills will churn, and I am not going to get in the way with facts.

I agree Joe was a pretty good GM but he was not a coach. Everyone knew that. Some of the people he brought over last year were very questionable-ie smelt of $$$$$$$. In this case though the new owner is the real boss-this could be the start of the downfall of the waxer franchise.

The Markham Waxers Junior A club open their main training camp at Markham Centenenial Arena Saturday morning.
When they do, there will be some new faces on board who will be running the show.
Late Wednesday afternoon, Waxers owner Bruce Jackson ousted Joe Cornacchia as general manager and head coach.
Replacing Cornacchia as general manager is Chris Vanstone, who served as associate general manager of the Ontario Junior Hockey Leagues Oakville Blades for the past four seasons.
A resident of Whitchurch-Stouffville, Cornacchia had been with the Waxers for the past seven seasons as general manager and took over from his brother, Rick, as the clubs head coach three seasons ago where he had handled both positions.
With Vanstone taking over as general manager, he is in the process of restructuring the clubs coaching staff and is expected to hire a new coach before the camp starts, Jackson said.
The restructuring comes just days before camp opens because Johnson wanted to give players a fresh start to buy into a new system, he said.
Jackson points to Vanstones his track record with Oakville where he was key to helping turn the Blades into being perennial contenders.
With Vanstone on board, Jackson said he also wanted to change the image of the team since purchasing it last November from Robert Thiessen.
We have a lot of Markham boys playing for us this year and theyre young. Im a young guy (49 years old) and Chris (Vanstone) is young. Call this a youth movement, an incremental change, Jackson said.

I am not sure who the new coach will be. All I've been able to get is that the team has somebody in mind, and it is in the negotiation phase. I have not heard anything specific, except that if the deal goes through as they want it to, it is going to knock everyone's socks off; from what I was told, the person they are hoping to get is a proven winner.

I believe, from what I understand from my conversations, that the Coach and GM dual title is more or less of a fallback position, but the organization is seeking a coach. If a coach cannot be found, I believe it will fall to Chris, and especially in order to have someone in place for training camp this weekend.

The name that is floating around is Joe Simon. But whoever takes on this job you better be prepared that the ship will be sinking because players will not respect an organization that an owner son who will be on the team couldn't make a AA MM team last year. Another kid father waxed some money into the the team. Kids and parents in the Toronto area know the BS of this. Joe was fired for sticking to his guns. Great coach, bad coach call him whatever you want, but you can't fault him for been waxed because of his principles. He kept that team in Markham.

So, where does Joe go from here? Does he take the year off, or just give up Jr. hockey?
And although there would appear to be similarities to the situation in Kingston, I gotta believe the Waxers are better situated long term. Unless they completely destroy their link to minor hockey in the region, they will always have a great pipeline to talent. Plus, they appear to have an established and accomplished guy steering the ship.
Kingston, on the other hand, will have a decent team this season due to the holdovers from the previous regime. After that, I presume it will be tough sledding without Kimco and their $$$$$$$$$$$.

2007 2008 OAKVILLE BLADES went to the Royal Bank Cup. Chris came end of 2008 as a scout. Vanstone is a good guy but to come on here and say the OAKVILLE BLADES went all this way cause of him NOT. Give Me a break.
Marty Got him the job LOL. Good Luck Chris.
Puck pusher in practice so give the credit where credit is due
Thats all for now.

CCBlake that was a rather rude comment. Everyone knows Chris was a HUGE part of Oakville's success. You sir sound like a jealous person with an axe to grind. IMO Chris will do a fantastic job in Markham just like he did before.

If and when Mr. Finney decides to pull chute, hopefully he will look for a prospective owner. But, Trenton will not fold. Finney will want to be bought out, one would presume. Why get nothing when the league and its member clubs will gladly give you money to go away!
As for Kingston moving, a very remote chance at best. I'll say it would be less than 1 percent. The new owners are from the Kingston region, with loyal fans and a large economic base to draw sponsorship.
In regards to Kingston (and Wellington) moving to the Central League in eastern Ontario, I bet they would both consider it. I know inquiries have been made in the past, but, have been shot down by the OHA/OHF.
Bigger question: Will the commish and his watchdogs be sniffing around Trenton, checking and re-checking all the dubious financial transactions the franchise has and will continue to make to attain players?

I sorry to see a decent guy get the axe but more often
than not it will work out for the best. He is respected
throught hockey and will find a suitable opprtunity soon.
Chris is a very capable person who acted as Asst GM AT
Oakville. I first met him when he recruited a fanily member.
I have the utmost respect for him.
Ive met Joe Simon through power hockey . He also coached
Streetsville Derbies but had problems with a daddy owner
so I hope history doesnt repeat itself. A very capable
coach strong on fundamentals. Deserves a break.
