I am curious what you all think about what a couple of US politicians said about Chavez' comments on our President Bush recently at the United Nations.

Nancy Pelosi said he was nothing more than a "thug." Apparently she is unaware of how much he is trying to do to bring justice to his country, to redistribute the wealth in a way that alleviates much of the rank poverty that has plagued his nation. Why would a seemingly progressive liberal like Pelosi come down so hard on Chavez? What do you think?

And Representive Rangel from New York, another progressive liberal who has been very critical of Bush, said that no one who is not from this country should be able criticize our president. It would seem from his comment that "Americans" should not be able to criticize Sadaam Husein or other national leaders that we disagree with. I guess that American exceptionalism has seeped into the congress on a very deep level. What do you think about this apparent contradiction?

Jon
