Very tight foreskin

May 14 2009 at 8:30 AM

I know this is very late but i'm 19 and only just found out that my foreskin is supposed to retract. I've been reading forums for the past few days and have tried doing the exercises however, it feels like my foreskin is attached to the head. I mean its so tight that i can't even expose the head of the penis! Please help.

Late for what?

Let's do this first. When you feel the need to pee, get somewhere that a little mess won't hurt. Pinch shut your foreskin with your fingers and start the stream. If your foreskin balloons uniformly, it is not attached to the glans. If it is not uniform, there is an adhesion which you should be able to work loose by massaging it. This may take some effort, so be patient. Report back on what you find.

Let's say you get a positive outcome with no adhesions. This is where I suggest starting to get that ring on the end loosened up.

This should get this started. Let us know how this one works and we'll go from there.

Like a water balloon?

The problem is when i tried doing that exercise even before posting here i found that just stretching a bit caused a mild tickling/unpleasant sensation, like theres something attached. I haven't tried doing the peeing thing yet but are you suggesting i let my pee out into my foreskin like a water balloon?

Also, the other day i tried pulling the foreskin back with a little vaseline when flaccid. I had to do it when my penis was shrunk to it's small state since it's winter here. But anyway, i think i could call it a result as i sort of exposed the head maybe about 10-20%. While trying to do this in a more warm environment it won't go any further than just showing the tip of the head. Would this piece of info help in determining whether my foreskin is attached to the glans?

Yup, that's right!

Except that you don't want to throw this balloon at anyone! Let me know what happens. The best place to do this is in the shower, naked.

What you describe does not necessarily indicate an adhesion.

Winter? Are you Aussie?

OK, we really are going to be interested in the result of the "balloon test" to show whether there are adhesions.

In the meantime, the frænulum stretch that Jim illustrates would be quite appropriate to actually fix an adhesion, even though you could not see it. I suggest therefore that you persist with it as it will "loosen up" both foreskin and frænulum.

If there is an adhesion present, then this stretch will tend to pull it apart. Just pull to the point of discomfort and hold that point for a while. You may feel something peel apart if there is an adhesion, and that may result in a spot of blood and (particularly) some stinging when you then pee, but you may presume that unless you were pulling unreasonably hard, this will not be damaging. In any case, pull to the point of modest discomfort and you will almost certainly find that over a period of time, you will actually be putting somewhat more tension on it before that discomfort occurs.

Your not alone

Don't worry to hard. I'm in my early 20's and learning how to pull the forskin back. It's a little embarassing but it's not too late to do something about all of this. Just be patient and see a doctor. but be forwarned, doctors like to recoment circumcision but that's your decision.

Why see a doctor?

It's really just a waste of money when there is nothing broken or diseased. Doctors need lots of time to deal with the serious things they're really best at.

Hang on!

Why are you recommending seeing a doctor, John? If you yourself are indeed "learning how to pull the foreskin back", what does that have to do in your case with seeing a doctor?

Is what we are explaining here insufficient information? What extra information do you propose the doctor would provide? I can't quite fathom your point of view.
