Foreskin Problems

I am fifteen years old and I have trouble retracting my foreskin when erect. When flaccid the foreskin moves back and forth easily. But when erect, I am able to pull the foreskin to almost fully expose the glans but it is uncomfortable and it becomes very difficult to cover the glans again. And the penis resembles an 'hourglass' shape.

Is this phimosis? Should I just let the problem fix itself or should I start the stretching. And the glans is VERY sensitive and I've been trying to tone it down by rubbing it with a rough sponge, but it doesn't really help.

And also, a bit unrelated, but my dick has an abnormally big vein on it... almost as thick as a drinking straw. It comes and goes. Is this normal?

Since you are still young, having a tight skin with erections is normal. I think stretching it is in order and I recommend that you do it now. I don't recommend your sponge routine however. With time, the glans will adjust to being touched, but you really don't want to lose any of the sensitivity which will serve you well sexually.

Veins tend to run close to the surface of the penis and they vary considerably man to man. When you have an erection, it will probably be more prominent.

You start, by reading the previous discussion "threads" on the current index page - the one you went to in order to post your new one, then you go the the next index page and read those, and so on. By the time you have completely read a few dozen such threads, you should have most of the information you need to know, and can ask about it.

In your case, the question just before yours has already described the same situation, plus a few details about having sex which should not trouble you just yet, but you probably need to know for some time in the future. In any case, you need to stretch, reading back will tell you how (you only need the relatively easy way with your fingers), and take note that if you are complaining about your glans being "too sensitive", or trying to "tone it down" by any means, you are trying to do something very wrong.

Go have a read, and then tell us what you have figured out, eh?

The vein will not hurt you. Try hanging your hand down for a minute and look at the back of it. What do you see?

Thanks for the answers, hopefully I'll be fine. I've seen the pictures on methods of stretching, but I was wondering if it is _necessary_ for I to do this. Because the skin does retract when erect, it's just very tight and uncomfortable and difficult to put back. And I was worried about stretching causing the wrinkly hanging foreskin to become bigger and hang more with loss of aesthetic value. Was also worried about the vein getting in the way because I have a mild varicocele.

OK, as you query the strict necessity of deliberately stretching your foreskin as against simply letting it "sort itself out" over time, I am pointing out that the stretching occurs proportional to the amount of time that it is required to stretch.

In other words, if you do not do something that actually puts the foreskin on the stretch, such as at the minimum, pulling it back each time you masturbate - and using that as your mode of masturbation - then it will tend to stay as it is. You have persistent erections every night as you sleep, but it is evident that these have not managed to push through your foreskin, but instead have simply stretched it longer, and unless/ until you actually stretch it open, will simply continue to do so. And if you do stretch it open so that those night-time erections result in the glans being exposed, that will naturally accustom the glans to degrees of contact.

If you were perfectly happy with your situation (well, you wouldn't be asking this question in the first place,) then it wouldn't matter if you left things to themselves. Since you do feel it isn't working "right", then I suggest you start work on it now, since you are still growing and it should be that much more flexible.

It worries me considerably that you see a "wrinkly hanging foreskin" as a "loss of aesthetic value". Does this also mean that you feel the need to shave to be "smooth"? Failure to accept bodily features that are clearly perfectly normal and functional is a poor prognostic sign for mental health.

And as to the vein, let me assure you that veins do not "get in the way" of anything as they are by definition, very flexible and carry negligible pressure under normal circumstances. The varicocoele (how do you know - how has this come to your attention and what have you been told about it or anything else in this region?) is a completely local phenomenon and has no bearing on your penile veins.

When I first read about this simple do it yourself tip of stretching the top of the foreskin in order to relieve phimosis (i.e. tight foreskin), I didnt really believe it would do the trick, well at least not for me. My foreskin was very tight and the steroid cream (Betamethasone) hadnt helped at all. I had also given surgery (the dorsal slit) some serious thought but the specialist I consulted simply wanted to do nothing or the full circumcision! So for years I though there was not much else I could do, until I discovered the idea of stretching the skin manually which Ive found on several internet sites. I did however feel that the approach of having to keep ones fingers inserted only made this method possible for a limited time and thus made advance very slow. Instead I found a way to reinforce the method by inventing my own little gadget to speed up the process - hands free (as illustrated*). In this way I was able to move around the house freely and even to wear loose clothes. It took me 3-4 weeks and several hours a day to achieve my goal.
