Okay here we go ...

i have a 1080i capable tv , unfortunatly my 1080i tv's hdmi port only seems to display 720p as 1080i looks all screwed up with fuzzy lines etc (on my ps3) on my sky HD (Uk Cable) that uses the hdmi it also doesnt work on 1080i all the colours go off so that too runs on 720p ....

BUT my component port currently home to my 360 has worked on 1080i with ease and since i dont really want to unplug my cable anyway i was thinking about getting a component switchbox and a component cable for my PS3 and have them share that port

Right then so down to the point , I have a JAP PS3 so its Blu Ray Region A capable which is cool even tho im in the UK as i can import Blu Ray films from the USA as well as use the many Region Free Blu Rays available here in the UK , i was just wondering if its worth re-purchasing all my fav films on Blu Ray if i can only use 1080i through a component port?

I have about 50 of my favourite films in mind to get on Blu Ray and im just looking for some info and some experience with people who have upgraded themselves and this is the BEST place im sure (im a big fan of the man himself u see)

so yeah scruffy and babbled abit but hopefully you guys can give me alittle help

P.S My Tv is a 32" 1080i WS LCD

While your monitor obviously won't be able to take FULL advantage of the 1080p quality of Blu-ray, it will still look a lot better than DVD. At 32" size, you likely wouldn't see a HUGE difference between 720 and 1080 anyway, it's kind of riding the line in terms of screensize. 40" and up you can easily tell the difference.

As for re-purchasing all your old faves on Blu-ray, that's entirely up to you. I'm slowly upgrading my faves, but also buying most of the new stuff I want on Blu (if it's something that comes out on both DVD and Blu, I always go for the Blu version - unless there's something about the Blu version that is inferior, like lack of extras or a bad transfer or whatnot).

The way I look at it is, even if you don't have a TV that takes full advantage of it just yet, you will at some point. You've got the player, you've got a decent TV to start off with, so why not? By the time you DO get a kick-ass TV, you'll already have a pile of stuff to check out on it! Back in the day, I started buying DVDs almost a year before I even had a player. Because I knew I'd have one eventually, and didn't want to miss out on some of the deals that were going on (or risk having a title I wanted go out of print and be unavailable by the time I got a player)

Sounds like you're all set with the player you have!
