it is night. the strip of grass surrounds the venerable stone structure of the downtown public library. the outside of this building is well-lit
by floodlights places to illuminate the historic structure. having had a nice dinner and three or four glasses of a good red wine, we have been walking around the downtown area on this balmy summer night, talking & laughing. getting along pretty good, liking each other. when we stop in front of the library, I hop up on the low iron railing and walk along next to you, balancing, teetering, sometimes touching your shoulder to keep from tipping as we walk up the block to the next intersection. other people are out walking, couples, small groups of friends, maybe headed to the movies or from dinner. the railing is going to run out, going to turn the corner before we reach the intersection.
darers go first....

and it spilled all over the keyboard. it's a form of play for me, and kind of taking a big chance playing pretend with other people when you're more used to playing alone....
