hardly any time to stop in, trying to keep up with four or five (or six) things all at once, & something, inevitably, is going to suffer.
gotta keep working, must keep working.....grrrr
be glad when the 'project' is over, not til sept, tho.
nightsword's on permanent hiatus or what? busy with her new beau, I guess.
hope yer feelin' a bit better, Z. long distance comfort's better than none at all, I hope, or I got you guys pegged wrong & there's no point in coming back. but I AM sorry for ya.
life can be good, too. got a few friends who I trust, enough money to buy a book or cd when I want it, no cancer or other horrible shit....I don't ask for much, it would seem ungrateful. I don't screw other people over, and generally try not to fuck things up more than they already are.

tired, headach-y moth

Permanent hiatus? Never!

Just been busy with stuff--planting and pruning in the garden...then we went up to Huntsville area for a week to help friends get their cottage ready for summer. It was kinda cold in the evenings but a warm fire and a warm bedmate helped! At least no bugs yet! I hate being a "movable feast" for those microscopic hordes.

Know what you mean about those projects, moth. Right now I feel like a kid in a candy store. There are so many things I put off while I was finishing my project, now it's like which ten things do I do first!

Sorry to hear about your ex, Z., but it was bound to happen sooner or later that one of you would want to go out with someone else (wish it had been you but that will happen eventually too!) In the meanwhile, I think you are wise to channel your energy into something deep and profound--it's funny but I've always found I write better from emotional pain than when I'm feeling more content. Somehow it seems to be the difficult experiences that generate a greater need for creative expression. Maybe it's a way of working through it or trying to find a deeper meaning for it?

Now, for a complete change of subject. About the Lone Gunmen being cancelled, all I can say is **** and double ****! Last night, I happened to catch a rerun of the X Files from 1989 which was the "origins" of the Lone Gunmen (I was never a faithful X Files fan but have seen most of them in reruns). As for the question in one of your earlier posts, Z., about "Gunmen of the Apocalypse." I'm not sure where it's from but I'll take a wild guess that it may have been Twin Peaks???? It just sounds like something that would have been in that show--now Twin Peaks was one show I did watch faithfully but it was a long time ago so don't remember all the details.

About Star Trek. I know you guys hashed this one out quite a bit and I agree with all you said about the first one being the best--best written, best relationship between characters etc--but I've always liked all of the series (except Deep Space 9--couldn't really get into that one). For me part of the appeal of Trek Next and Voyager was that they didn't try to duplicate the original series but created new characters with new relationships etc. Voyager I followed from the beginning because I always liked Kate Mulgrew as an actress and I wanted to see what they'd do with a woman captain (Star Trek was, in the 60's, way ahead of its time in its portrayal of women and its multi-racial format). One thing I noticed, though, that was different about Mulgrew as captain--the only episode where she got laid was when she forgot who she was! Somehow, the writers didn't make her as liberated as Kirk or Jean Luc! By the way, did you know that Leonard Nimoy is also a poet? He wrote a lovely little book (in the seventies) called 'You and I.'

By the way, loved your little beastie, Big D., my software seems downright boring by comparison.

Take care ya'all........cheers, nightsword

Hi Big D! Yur prolly right but hey sometimes soap opera cheese is a good way to rest the old mind from the more heavy duty stuff of life--leastaways, for me--not too often and not too much but geesh we can't be intellect-tools all the time and I guess we all got our secret little weaknesses. No, never heard the trek duo singing--just Billie boy on those Price Club commercials--now, that's cheese!

Huntsville is up near Algonquin Park--more north and east than Parry Sound. Haven't been to PS since I was a mere strapling and sure didn't bike there! You must have strong thighs, big D...hehehe, enough said! Also haven't been camping since I was a guide--girl-type guide that is. These days, if it don't come with room service and in-room movies forget it! For me, the joy of getting older (does not=old) means never having to prove I can do without the comforts in life. Fact is, I don't want to do without the comforts in life...I like the comforts and especially bug-proof environments when I'm in the northern territories...cheers (and take lotsa that Off stuff in yur nappiesack), nightsword

P.S. How come all our posts are coming up double, Z? Or have I just had one too many tonight?

Speaking of polly...

All this talk of polly wanting crackers reminds me of a joke I heard from one of my co-workers the ohter day. He told it quite badly, but I'll try to make it funnier than the original telling. Here goes:

A lonely old man goes to a pet store, deciding he would like a companion form the animal kingdom to keep him company. He opts for a parrot, the idea being that he would have someone to talk to who would actually respond. He buys a parrot and heads home, looking to many a delightful conversation with the bird. He gets home, and finds a nice spot in his living room for the cage. He sits and waits. He speaks to the parrot. But all the parrot does is sit on its perch, occasionally looking expectantly at the old man. It doesn't utter a word.

The old man goes back to the pet store the next day and speaks to the clerk who sold him the parrot. He explains that the parrot has not said a word and is wondering what the problem could be. The clerk suggests the old man buy a little mirror to hang in the cage beside the parrot. The parrot, being a simple minded beast, would think that there is another parrot in the cage with it, and talk its head off. The old man buys the little mirror and rushes home, eagerly awaiting hearing his bird's first words. He hangs the little mirror in the cage beside the parrot and waits. The parrot casts a few casual glances at the mirror, but still says nothing. It is too late in the day for the old man to return to the pet store, so he goes to bed, disappointed once again.

The next morning, the old man goes back once again to the pet store and speaks to the clerk. He explains that the mirror had no effect, and asks what else he can try to make the bird speak. The clerk is puzzled, as the mirror trick usually works. He suggests buying a small swing for the parrot to play on. This would give it something else to do other that sit on its immoble perch. The clerk suspects this may simply be a picky parrot, and is bored. So, the old man buys a parrot-swing, rushes home again, sets it up, and waits. The parrot flaps over to the swing, gives it a couple of goes, then just sits. Silent. It looks expectantly at the old man from time to time, but still says nothing.

A couple of weeks pass by, the old man going back to the pet store every day and buying some new toy in an attempt to please his parrot enough that it will talk to him. Nothing works. The parrot remains silent the whole time. The old man goes back to the pet store one final time, this time quite obviously distressed. The clerk asks him what's wrong, and the old man informs him that the parrot has died. The clerk is stunned and apologizes profusely, offering the old man a complete refund. He cannot understand what the problem could have been, or why this parrot gave the old man so much trouble. He asks the old man if the parrot ever DID say anything. The old man says that, as a matter of fact, the parrot said ONE thing right before it died. The clerk asks what it said, to which the old man replied, "Fooooood...."

BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAA!!!!! Man, that was long... Well, hope you all enjoyed it!

Oh and yes, Shatner doing Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds is priceless!!! Both the Shatner and Nimoy albums were recently re-released on CD recently. Get 'em if you can, you'll die laughing!

Well, I thought it was funny, Z. (can't believe no one else responded as of yet when it's been posted almost a week) In fact, it's the highlight of my week to find it tonight--had probs with the phone line all last week (I'm on a dial up) and spent most of it (the week, that is) waiting for repairmen--the first who made the problem worse, the second who never showed up and the third (bless 'im) who fixed it in ten minutes! Grrrrrh! to phone companies.

I'll definitely look for the dynamic duo's CDs--always thought Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds was a funky-weird song anyway (think they wrote it when in their guru-come-drug phase)-guess the star boys can only make weird into more weird.

Back to Polly for a moment. I think there's a moral in that there joke--isn't it too true how very often we overlook the obvious? Sorry to jump around but I been real excited to have my communication tool working again.

Hope things are going better this week--GFwise--for you, Z. Cheers, nightsword

creativity falls by the wayside when one is too contented. I like the way it writhes out in a passionate gush of spite when you're really feeling desperate and bitter. fact of life.

you said "writhes out in a passionate gush of spite." You have a great way with words, moth. I must get back into some poetic endeavours this summer. By the way, that flower pic you posted awhile back--bloomin' sensational. Right now I have masses of the giant irises in bloom as well as my oriental poppies--I planted six (little four inch pots) last year and only one plant bloomed--one flower for about two days. This year the leafy parts have about a 16-inch diameter and each plant has from about 7 to 13 flowers. Never realized I was planting jungle stuff but they're sure gorgeous. Roses are all just starting to open too! I love summer! Cheers, nightsword
