Of course explain to him that adults make mistakes and most of the time kids aren't seriously hurt. But validate his own gut reaction, that he was right to worry about his brother.
Dad needs to understand about the trust issue with his own kids, but why do I think he won't listen? Hopefully he's being a blockhead because he feels guilty and can't admit he made a mistake.
