Brian came to our annual meeting last week, and presented, and Nash really enjoyed meeting him. Brian is so gracious and his whole family came with him, even his sister. He asked that I send a copy of the photo with Nash to him. I did, and here it is on his website.
Nash is also really asking about Down syndrome more and started pointing to a self advocate that was there to pick up his STAR award. A really nice gentleman, about 42 that is featured in one of the NDSC "More Alike Than Different" promotional piece. Nash pointed at him in the audience and said "Look"! I said yes, do you want to meet him? Nash said "Yes, Down syndrome too" and ran to him. lol They had quite the nice conversation.
Cute picture. Shawen won't even acknowledge that he has Down syndrome - not sure what's up about it. I've always tried to approach it matter-of-factly and discuss it freely.
Sometimes I think he just really doesn't care - which might not be a bad thing ... Not sure - But I always wonder when I hear about kids who acknowledge it -
Brian is our keynote speaker at our conference next year. I'm looking forward to it. I think it's great that Nash is identifying with other people that have DS. That is my wish for Max as he gets older.
Adorable photo! I find it so interesting to hear about kids beginning to have that self-awareness and the understanding of Ds, and I've wondered at what age they begin to acknowledge it. I would absolutely love for Sammi to become a self-advocate.
Does Brian have DS? Maybe I read it wrong, but it sounds like Nash is saying Brian has DS too? I'm confused because I don't see it, curious. Nash IS SOOOOOO CUTE!!!!! I can't get enough of his adorable face! He's so smart too! You go Nash!!!!
