We are a group of friends who have come together because we share the common bond of caring for someone who has Trisomy 21. We are here to share therapy tips, medical issues, laughs, accomplishments and yes, even frustrations. We embrace what Trisomy 21 has brought into our lives. We feel that it has taught us to appreciate the true meaning of life. We count our children as blessings! We will fiercely protect them and fight for their lives to be valued just as all other peoples' are. We share our pictures, our stories and our hearts here not only to provide friendship and support for each other, but also in the hopes that others will open their minds and their hearts to our unique children and, in turn, make a better world for everyone.

need some advice

Hi all,

My name is Miriam and I haven't posted anything since a couple weeks after Isabelle was born and now she is 12 1/2 months! I just wanted to write for some advice/support. Some days are just so hard! She isn't crawling yet but she seems so close. She can also hold herself standing up for a little while which is inspiring. Everyone keeps telling me that once she does I'll wish she never started but that is not the case! I know people don't always know what to say but they don't seem to get what these milestones mean to us. How old were some of your kids when they started to crawl? I'm trying not to focus too much but it's hard. I spent last night with some close friends with "typical" kids. They are all within 3 months of her and are so physically active! I find myself longing for Isabelle to be able to be so mobile so easily! My friends are wonderful but they have no way to know how I'm feeling.

I'm also struggling with her developmental needs. It's hard to know what she "should" be doing and I don't have any other children so I don't have much to compare it to.Does anyone have any ideas or suggestions for me? I talked with another mom who was really in to the nutrivene vitamin thing. Does anyone use those?

I just really could use some support right now, I don't know what it is this weekend. My husband is so great and takes everything in stride but sometimes I think this is just a mom thing. I actual have a play date with a mom whose little girl with Ds is Isabelle's age so that should be fun and helpful. Isabelle is such a happy, good baby and I know we are so lucky that she has been healthy. SHe is active and vocal but I just don't know what else we should be doing. Thanks to anyone/everyone who is listening, I appreciate it in advance. Hope you all are well.
Now, I'll have to catch up on everyone else happy.gif!

Thanks,

Miriam

Take one day at a time and try to remember that your daughter will develop at her own pace. The hardest thing is to watch other Down Syndrome babies do something yours is not. Every child is different - you will be surprised when one day she will start doing everything you thought she wouldn't.

I couldn't wait for my son to start walking and then at 18 months I missed the days he would just sit on the floor and play. my son is now 3 years old and the light of my life. I am a better person because of him.
