Hi, my name is Rachel. I'm 21 weeks pregnant. I am 35 years old and pregnant with my second baby-a girl! My other daughter is nine and the pregnancy was without a hitch. Today I had a specialist give me an ultrasound to measure and check features after my blood test from last week showed the a low level of whatever chemical that shows levels. All features and measures showed no signs of Down, and I scheduled an amnio for Thursday. I am going to cancel the appointment after considering the risks. The results would make no difference. I can live with not knowing but I could not live with the grief it would bring to my daughter, myself, and the rest of my family, for that matter, if something preventable were to go wrong with the amnio.
What I am wondering is, in looking back into being pregnant, did you feel less movement, kicks, and nudges of the baby like you should have or expected to? I've been doing research on babies with Down and read how they may not have the muscle tone.

I have a 7 year old girl (without down syndrome) and a 5 year old boy with Down syndrome (pregnant with my third, and probably final, i think. LOL) Anyways, while pregnant with my second I didn't feel anything different, and you'll read ALOT of information that makes childern with Ds seem like there is alot they can't do. I was suprised when my boy came out, breast perfectly the first time (unlike what the books say) smiled, babbled, lifted his head etc. He didn't have heart problems, he moved just as much as my first child, only he just fluttered alot, smy daughter kicked alot more, but I really don't think that had ANYTHING to do with DS. When Will was born, he was such a content baby, feed for 1 hour slept for 4 hours, that was his routine. And he hardly ever cried and was SOOOO happy!!!! At first I was shocked to find out he had DS, everyone is, I had all kinds of emotions mostly bad at first, but that's because it was very unknown. Now I feel lucky to have him, yes there are challenges, but there are challenges with any child, and I have grown alot from having him. My daughter loves him to death, in fact when she found out I was pregnant again she said she wanted another Will. Which, well I am having a boy, and I do not know for sure if he has DS or not, it really doesn't matter.
