Despite requests from many fishnet members for information about marine parks Steve has decided to ban the only member who could be bothered supplying this information.

how strange

October 20 2004, 2:56 PM

normally they start congratulating each other when they get someone banned who they are afraid of. Then they start insulting them and making up stuff about them and saying stuff like 'watch out he'll be back under another name'. Could it be that there's a sense of shame creeping in?

no shame at all

October 21 2004, 7:15 PM

not for Brian anyway. How stupid is that dickhead having a go at someone for not answering questions after they've been banned.

Re: fishnetters kept in the dark

Hi, thanks for the invite I've been around a while and I've seen how it works on Fishnet. Basically they are a dying forum and Steve is doing everything he can to keep it alive. That's why he keeps promising to change the format. That's also why he doesn't change the format - it would be too obvious just how sad that forum is. Fishnet relies on a hard core of supporters who use it to push a political agenda. In response Steve expects them to keep the regular conversation going and to plug the advertised products via PM to any new members that come on board. Sometimes this is open and they'll say buy this product because they support fishnet. Sometimes they just lie and say it is the best product even though they admit to their mates that it sucks. In order to keep these people there Steve has to keep them in the dark and keep them angry about the political stuff. Otherwise they might just chill out and go fishing. What gets me is that anyone reading fishnet would think we all agree just coz we can't be bothered responding any more.

You can tell when they are going to ban someone. It only happens to people who criticise their political/lobbying endeavours or who promote sensible environmentalism. The other members start calling the them a greenie. This is the cue for Steve (who posts under several other handles) to start harassing the member and asking them a never ending string of really stupid meaningless questions. Usually this is enough to get the person angry which Steve uses as an excuse to ban them. If that doesn't work then the other members accuse them of being an ex member who is banned. Steve then demands to know the person's real name and where they live or work. If this works then he either publishes the information or 'leaks' it out to anyone who has a grudge. Then the harassing phone calls and intimidation start. If they don't supply that information the Steve bans them. Remember Greenslime and those other two that were around at the same time? They left after they started getting phone calls in the middle of the night with some wack asking them how they could possible support closures.

Re: mushroom

I'm a member of several other forums that aren't fishing related. They also get 'pest' members but deal with them quite effectively. I asked the moderators if they would ever ask for personal information and they were actually insulted at the suggestion. They said if a forum asked for that information they wouldn't touch it with a ten foot pole. I showed them the fishnet page and they were surprised the police weren't involved yet as there is obviously something seriously dodgy going on. Any forum that demands personal information is out to sell it and will sell any email address supplied. That's why they want people's work email adresses as they are worth a lot more than hotmail accounts. I'd say the political stuff is just to suck in members and all they are really doing is harvesting email adresses.

Re: mushroom

I had a work email for three and a half years no problems. Then I used it for my fishnet login because I thought they didn't allow hotmail. I didn't make it publicly available. A week or so later I started getting those nigerian scam emails. That's really sad. Those forums are advertised in fishing magazines and you get old blokes going online for the first time who know nothing about these scams and soon they are caught up and loose their house. Someone needs to tell them not to give them personal information.

"Sorry but people who register with false names & hotmail email accounts to hide their identity have no rights here."

What a bloody hipocrit! Steve isn't even his real name. I know at least four outspoken members who claim to support the fishing party but they aren't even enrolled to vote because they are afraid of 'big brother.' Most fishnet members use a free internet account. Its more like fishermen with half a brain have no rights on fishnet.

Use a 'false' hotmail account and make it publicly available so people can email you without the website owners evesdropping.

you've noticed that too how the mods and a few others post under several user names? but only the ones they don't like get busted for it, apart from that it's encouraged:

Why ?

December 5 2004, 7:49 AM

I fail to understand why people still log on to Fishnet. Ive been a member ( three times )...been banned twice.( for giving honest opinions )

Most of the time its a head f*#k to post a reply.

The layout is just ridiculous, Who the hell wants to open every bloody reply to a thread ? Duh !!!

If its a really good, well set out site your looking for. Then this is the one. http://www.fishsa.com This gets you to the main page, you then need a real email to join the forum.

Its very well moderated,( moderators are known to members, not covered ).... a family site. And heaps of information.

I'm biased cause i come from South Aus. But many Vics visit and are members of the site, because they holiday in South Aus for their fishing.

Who needs the boring old fishnet, and Mr bus driver Mick !!

Re: Why ?

December 6 2004, 9:34 AM

Funny thing is fishnet appears to be the most popular forum if the number of active topics each day on the main board is anything to go by (I don't use fishsa). Why is it so popular if it is laid out so poorly? Maybe people actually like the layout and a few always say they do when there is talk of changing it. They can go off on their own little tangent. I think they like the idea of getting their thoughts posted on the internet for everyone to see, but being safe in the knowledge that no-one will criticise them for saying such stupid things because only one or two people will read each post. It's basically designed for people who want to say something but don't want to learn anything or put up with all the other people who want to have their say. It's pretty useless for finding info on any topic.

Re: Why ?

December 7 2004, 1:48 AM

You may be right....re above post !!! And you sound like a well thought out forum poster. But i think most members of any site like to see whats on offer above them. And they like an honest go....which i wasnt offered via Fishnet, and have been offered from FishSA.

Abuse from PM's..IM'S isnt on. It just isnt the go.!!!!!

If you want to get down and dirty, do it so every other member can see. None of this hidden bull****, then get kicked off for sticking up for yourself. Especially when your wife works in the Tourism Industry, on a relatively high profile position.

Its weak **** to threaten and not deliver !!!!! Yea you no who im talking about !!!!!!!!

That's strange, normally the bitchnet regulars will make an arse of themselves in public and congratulate each other for it. I guess they can't handle it when someone can be bothered to respond the same way.
