throw these ones back

I saw a show on the weekend about box jellyfish. One of the guys claimed that butterfish and batfish eat them (also the hawksbill turtle). He encouraged people to return these fish to the water to help keep box jellyfish numbers down. While they are not great table fish, some may eat them or use them for pet food, bait or burley.

Have you ever been stung by one of these things? Many people have been killed by them. But then again I wouldn't expect a fisherman to care about anyone else.

Actually im not a fisherman, im a surfer. And yes ive been stung by one on the calf. It swelled up to the size of a Basketball, i lapsed into a semi coma and if it wasnt for a quick thinking lady who gave me CPR before the Ambos arrived, i wouldve died.

I still dont give a toss about batfish and butterfish because they arent going to make any dent in the box population.

primary school biology

May 16 2005, 7:37 PM

I went for a snorkel on a clear day on a small island of Morth Straddie. Jumped in on the downcurrent side. There were jelly fish everywhere, but they were all mangled with not tenticles. These were the big chunky blue jellys. Swam round to the side into the current and there were jellys with heaps of little tiny fish pecking away at the tenticles. On the upstream side they were all in good condition. If these little fish in the shallows can make that much difference to all the big jellys drifting past, imagine what all the big batfish, butterfish and turtles will do to the little box jellyfish.

No you havnt won !!! I was on holidays. And no its not worth throwing back batfish and butterfish. Cause fact is they dont eat box jelly fish, they actually breed with them. This i know cause i live next door to the museum.

Holidays schmolidays. You forfeited. I bet that's an art museum you live next door to, not a science museum. No wonder. You've been studying abstract jelly fish paintings. Talk to Tony Ayling. He knows what jellyfish the batfish have sex with. I've got a secret document you can read, just PM me and if you're my friend and I think you're too stupid to see through it I'll forward it to you.

I'll be your friend only if you let me win.
