Option 1: No change to the current 60 cm minimum legal length.
Option 2: 65 cm minimum legal length, and review the impact before any further increase.
The current 60 cm size limit on kingfish is below the size at which the species matures (more than 75 cm). Kingfish at the current minimum size are growing rapidly and harvesting fish at 60 cm is likely to be limiting the potential yield from the species. However, both commercial and recreational fishers catch most fish close to the current minimum and even small changes in the minimum legal length could have significant effects on the current fisheries for kingfish. These potential advantages and disadvantages need to be carefully balanced. Similarly, any subsequentincrease in the minimum size limit would need to be reviewed to access the impacts on fishers before any further change is considered.
