POLICE swarmed on a Gold Coast house yesterday after reports a television cameraman had been shot.
But it now appears the man may have been simply startled by a postman's backfiring motorbike and bumped his head.
Uniformed officers and detectives rushed to Matthew Flinders Drive at Paradise Point after a triple 0 call about 2.15pm.
Freelance cameraman and documentary maker Terry Turner, 34, had his head bandaged and was taken from his house on a stretcher by paramedics.
He was taken to the Gold Coast Hospital by ambulance.
Police said Mr Turner told them he had been shot.
The incident happened about the same time a gun-wielding bikie was reported to be in the northern Gold Coast area.
However, Surfers Paradise CIB Acting Inspector Nev Huth said there was no indication Mr Turner had been shot by a bikie, the postman or anyone else.
"He heard a motorcycle but it was the postman's, and certainly nothing of a large variety," Insp Huth said.
He said neighbours had not reported hearing any gunshot and no ballistics evidence was found.
He said while Mr Turner had a head wound, it was superficial and not life threatening.
Police believed he may have bumped his head on his letterbox or on a boat parked in his driveway.
Mr Turner's documentary work helped spark an RSPCA investigation into shark cruelty at Sea World several years ago when the theme park was building its multimillion-dollar Shark Bay exhibit.
