Hurricane Wilma…

I hope everyone in Florida is alright. I'm wondering if Deb tried to make her trip.

My family says it was really bad. I don’t think anyone has power. Cell phone service is sketchy at best. Trees down everywhere. Roof shingle damage is almost ubiquitous. My Mom and Dad had the most damage of anyone I’ve talked to. They lost all there fruit trees and a med. size oak (pretty much all the trees they had) they have a 2 ½ acre fenced lot and they lost much of the fence. (chain link) They lost their chicken coop; some chicken have shown up, but many are still MIA. Their horse choose to ride the storm out in the middle of the field with her back to the wind, which is good thing, because her stalls are gone. She lost her orchid (green) house (it’s laying up against part of that fence) and I’m not sure how many orchids survived the storm but she has/had hundreds. When they went to Alaska in August they bought a large bronze and enamel fountain to put by the pool. It has 3 dolphins swimming above a reef with fish and coral. The fountain arrived about 2 weeks ago but the company hasn’t sent out the men to install it yet. Since it’s about 6’ wide and only 3’ tall and weighs over 600 lbs she wasn’t really worried about trying to figure out to tie it down or move it. The wind blew it over. She can’t tell how much damage was done to it because they aren’t able to move it, but she’s hoping for the best. I feel kind of bad that I’m so far away and can’t help clean up the mess. I’m thankful that no one was injured. I hope to hear from everyone else soon.

Still home....

Believe it or not my flight for later tonight is not cancelled yet even though the Fort Lauderdale airport is closed. Perhaps it's reopening later tonight.

I managed to get my flight switched to tomorrow, however, our resort doesn't have any water or power. I don't think I'll be going tomorrow either.

My parents have a gold crown time share and hopefully they can change resorts to somewhere further north but that's not too likely as you need to book ages in advance.

Because flights are still going we will lose our money for our fares even though I have insurance. Apparently the insurance is for flight cancellation and it doesn't matter if you have no where to go when you get there...not the airlines problem as long as they get you there.

I so hope everyone there is okay. It must have been very frightning and the next little while will definitely be a challenge. My thoughts and prayers are with everyone there.

I'm glad to hear your family is well (safe) Patti!!!! The last thing you need is to be dealing with more complications in your life.

Thanks Deb... If you would loose your airfare money

if you canceled your flights, maybe it would be cheaper to pay to stay somewhere else. Maybe you will get lucky and the resort will have gotten power back on. (I can't imagine them not having a large generator for things like this) I pray you are working something out, I know how frustrating it can be to be forced to cancel a vacation (We had to cancel our honeymoon)especially a much needed one.

I hope you have everything worked out already or better yet you're on your way right now to a fab. vacation.
