Over 40 and Looking for Information & Support

When Dealing with Pregnancy, Fertility and Conception?

Support, Advice and The Latest Insider Truths, Tips and Proven Techniques are Freely Available!

If you’re feeling apprehensive or concerned about conceiving a baby, then you’re certainly not alone; these feelings are quite natural.  In fact, I would say that over 90% of the ladies visiting our website felt the same way at first.

But believe me, with the right knowledge and support you can lessen your anxiety, reduce your stress and help prepare your body for its goal of a successful conception.

There are many women in their 40’s who become pregnant and have healthy babies, and chances are YOU CAN TOO

Although later in life, conception doesn’t always come easily, with the right information you can give yourself that added edge and actually increase your chances of success!

Research shows that when women educate themselves and receive the necessary support, it increases their chances of conception.  With the right knowledge and support there is no reason why you can’t have a successful pregnancy.  (Human Reproduction Journal 2006: 21; 358-63)

Dear Parents To Be:

Welcome!  My name is Pat Antliff and I know there are many reasons women in their 40’s desire a child, new relationships, not finding Mr. Right and deciding to go it on your own, wishing to expand your family, or just getting a late start.  Trust me, no one knows better than I, how it feels to be in your 40’s and long for a child.  I’ve been there!

After meeting the love of my life at 44 (he 48) we decided to form a family.  The longing for a child was something I had never felt before.  However, the longer it took for me to get pregnant, the more worried I became.  I had an inner feeling that something was seriously wrong; but my OB/GYN said as long as my cycles were regular I had nothing to worry about.  She suggested I “go home and relax”.

It wasn’t until I created my own support network and educated myself in all aspects of infertility that I started to realize that I DID have some control over my situation.  I soon discovered that there were steps I could take to improve my chances.  With that knowledge came confidence and with emotional support I had the resolve not to give up.

My journey took two years but in spite of the negative prospects for a women of 46, I was able to get pregnant and I believe that the knowledge and support I received contributed to my success.

That’s why I’m compelled to help others in the same situation.  I know first hand what you are going through.  I remember feeling frustrated and isolated because no one seemed to understand what I was experiencing.  Although people meant well, they would end up saying things that made me feel worse or even more alone.

Of course, not every problem has a viable solution, but with the right guidance, knowledge and support you can find the answers and options that will move you closer to your goal of having a baby.

And while you’re trying to conceive, you can take advantage of my own experience and knowledge by learning about proven fertility techniques, the latest conception tips, as well as oodles of recommended natural remedies and what to look for and avoid when seeking help… all geared to women over 40!

Our team of dedicated supporters welcomes you.  We truly hope that you’ll consider being part of our unique and special community.

Fertile Wishes,

Pat

TraceyD - Hopeing things are still OK.
SAS - Where are you at?
MichelleWA - did you do your FET?

I had my lap, hsg, hysteroscope on 12/21 but about a week later got VERY sick. Almost 'go to ER' level. Not sure what happened but it was bad. My guts were in turmoil. I'm fine now. Still feel it when I sit up from bed - like a stomach muscle thing.

Got AF on cd26 and am now on cd5. Given I thought I was going to die just about a week or so ago - I didn't want to deal with meds, monitoring, etc. Probably stupid as at my age, each month is like dog years, but my body said hold off.

I have no idea what my next step is. I have 4 IVFs under insurance and I'd sure like to try at least one. I may fly out to SIRM vegas in March as I am uncomfortable with local clinics being up to par. May end up at Cooper in NJ.
Basically, I've no hope and am STILL trying to get my head around DE. Might go childless. IDK. Seems so many are doing DE right now. They seem so happy. I can understand this. No more dissapointments & BS - just looking forward to the fun parts. Picking a name, etc. Ooop! I think I'm talking myself into it? Anyhoo - I'm not ready to give up on my own eggs yet as I figure I'm already old & what's another year or 2?

Hope everyone's well. I've not been here much the past month and am pretty lost as to where everyone's at.

Hey, Meagain, thanks for asking about me . . .

January 12 2006, 12:43 PM

I am on lupron. Full strength. A little bit of a different story than the microdose I was on for my cycle. I am depressed (sh*t-colored glasses as my psychologist says) -- ugh! And I feel like cr*p. Joints aching, skin dry, everything harder than usual. And I am also making multiple trips to the dentist to get my dental health under control before the transfer (I know its a good idea but it doesn't help this whole thing! Tomorrow is my last one (for a minor filling) and I should be done after that.

If I am supressed on Monday I get to start adding in E2. I certainly hope so. I am very much looking forward to feeling closer to my old self soon. Although, if I do succeed I know I'll feel yucky for a while, so maybe this is good practice. Somehow knowing you get a baby in the end makes it much more worth it than just getting a chance at a baby that I have now. But one can't happen without the other -- so there you go.

I think if you have 4 ivfs covered you should do at least one with your own eggs. Who knows -- it just might work.

Please let us know what you decide.

Good to hear from you Meagain!

It's always good to "see" people back on the boards...although I am sure most of us would rather graduate to the pg boards! I live in NJ and I was also covered for 4 IVF cycles. RE suggested since we had the insurance coverage...that we would at least try twice with my own eggs before moving on to DE. Sadly, those two IVF's resulted in BFN's...and now, here I am....moving on to DE. I am really excited about it. I am thinking so positively about this upcoming DE Cycle. I wish you all the best in whatever you decide....my just my .02.....give it a try with your own eggs!

January 12 2006, 3:54 PM

when my hand blew up due to a bad bee sting! Fought it for 5 months..but don't get me started about health insurance. One of the joys of being self-employed...not many options for health coverage!

I live in a mandated state and have BCBS PPO.
Even at 44, 95% of the doctors wouldn't even TRY with me.

If I did SIRM again (first one was a nightmare), I would go to Vegas because I'd be comfortable with Dr. Fisch and Sher is going out there many times a year to cycle people. It would be cheaper flights, cheaper rooms, cheaper food, less stress, less hustle/bustle - and I can easily head out to a canyon or something to chill out. Not to mention the shows, buffets, etc.

I hate the fact that IVF is not covered for most of you ladies out there

January 12 2006, 5:52 PM

I think that stinks...bad. I am lucky enough to live in a mandated state.....the company has to have 50+ employees. There are a lot of loopholes too...like it depends on what state your policy is written in. For instance my company's home office is in Ohio....and at work you have the choice of PPO or HMO...well, seems the HMO was written in NJ...but anyone that has PPO...that policy is written in Ohio....and the coverage was alot different. Basically, I have Aetna....they have been ok....had to battle a few times...but mostly, no problems at all. The NJ mandate is unlimited IUI's, 4 IVF's, all meds, all pretesting, only problem is that you age out of the mandate at 45 years old....I am 44.5...I've got to move along and get pg soon! I am lucky enough that they will even cover my DE, my donors meds and all their procedures during the IVF. I have to pay for all their pre-bloodwork and testing, and if anything, god-forbid that happens after the procedure...and of course the Donor's fee...of $7000.00! I really am sad that this is not covered for all you ladies. I feel bad. Best of luck to you!

Hi Meagain!!!!!!!..............m

January 13 2006, 10:32 AM

It's good to hear from you. I'm sorry you've been sick and had to sit out a cycle. I agree with the above, I'd try a cycle or two of IVF with my own eggs before trying the DE. You really are lucky to have that option available.

I hope you're feeling better soon.

All is still well here! I can't beleive I'm half way there. I leave for my amnio appt in about a half hour. I'm praying for good news, also hoping that baby gets out of the way so dr can get the needle in. Last attempt baby and placenta were in the way. But, all looked good, no markers.

I'll let you know when I get the results.

Are you going to move to the other board? I like it better because you always know who's on, no lurkers (and I mean lurkers who aren't sympathetic with our cause)-or as my dh calls them "51 yo men with ovary fetishes" LOL!

Take care, and good luck!
