Okay I've had my Mineral MM20 for over a year and I love it (and by the way, no scratches!!!) but I've seen so many pictures of the sapphire crystal version lately with the distortion and it makes me want one. I know the benefits of the harder crystal but any of you that have seen the two versions side by side which do you prefer? Is there really that big of a difference? I've never seen a sapphire in real life and would appreciate your opinion before I do something crazy. Also, does anyone know if it is possible to have the crystal changed from mineral to sapphire? Would it fit and can you order a sapphire crystal from Ken's or anywhere else. I have a watch maker who could change it for me if I could get my hands on one.
Differences between all three are minimal (fairly sure the Rusky is mineral, BTW). Distortion is only really an issue when you take pictures, in real life your eyes adjust to what you see.
If you've kept the mineral for a year and not scratched it then you are obviously careful with your watches. I really don't think you are missing out on anything. I've never scratched a mineral crystal in seven years of serious watch addiction (a must be over a hundred watches have passed through in that time).
If you really love this watch then by all means buy a sapphire and stick it away in a drawer, but don't trade your much-enjoyed watch for a negligible improvement, it really isn't that much different, indeed in daily use, other differences in manufacture (like how well the watch is finished, or the fit of the crown lever) will be much more apparent.
