world is room for improvement and the best part about growing old is that we really DO grow wiser and more experienced!

I am so sorry you had a period of binge behavior, but know that it doesn't wreck you, it doesn't change who you are, it doesn't have to shape your future.

I was just reading a book about being naturally thin where the author says over and over, "Check yourself before you wreck yourself."

I really think mantras can be useful -- a la Alcoholic Anonymous sayings, so comforting, so grounding in a crazy world, in a crazy moment.

I've given up the concept of the "Binge Monster," I'm done with that (though I'm still into being out in the open with it -- it's healthier!), and now subscribe to the concept of the binge behavior . . . something we do that is really maladaptive, and we can learn to replace it with something more adaptive.

My own recent adaptation has been a bizarre, previously unthinkable series of "mini-binges" which seem to act like the prior binges, but the only difference is I count up the extra points dutifully and subtract them from my weekly slush fund.

For some odd reason, it's working for me.

This lets me know that I need a way of safely overeating, and it's less about having to have some particular food and more about having this urge to overeat that must be satisfied, but can now be satisfied with less.

Where my binges before would be thousands of calories, now they are only 500 or 800. In other words, they're manageable.

Just for fun, I'm going to add up the calories in a prior binge attack, and see what the damages would have been. Have you ever done that? I think it's time.

I'm going to face the damages head on!

Be brave Maaj. The future IS going to be better! Please post often and let us know how you are doing.

Love,

Tigs
