I take omeprazole...by motherbear (Login baseballnana)
It helps a lot. Prilosec is the brand name.
I take it once each morning about half an hour before eating.
I used to get bloating, belching, kept awake at night with stomach burning, etc.
If you have all those symptoms you mentioned, I am surprised if your Gastro Dr. has not already done an upper endoscopy to take a good look at your esophagus and your stomach.
If he hasn't, I'd certainly request that one be done. Acid reflux into the esophagus can eventually cause the esophagial tissue to change and become cancerous.
I have an upper endoscopy about once every 3-4 years to keep watch for any tissue changes.
My husband has Barrett's Syndrom, which is a precancerous condition in the esophagus, caused by ongoing acid damage. He will have upper endoscopies much more often to keep watch for changes.
If you have seen a gastro dr. for GERD, they should have explained all these possibilities to you and checked you thoroughly. If you are leaving their office not knowing the answers to your questions, you need to be more aggressive in your questioning til you are satisfied that you know what is going on and what to do about it. There is no reason to continue suffering pain of GERD with the treatments available .
Good luck. Judy
ps. I have no medical background other than experience.
