is only about 5/16 inches in diameter. It is a slid fit in the front sight. It needs to slide in the sight when the two tabs on each side of the receiver are used. There function is to slide the barrel forward to remove the magazine in the event of a stuck pellet. You would be getting into a lot of machining costs and the gun and in my opinion is just not worth that kind of expense. Be very carefull when you disassemble it. It has some very small parts and springs. It is difficult to determine where they go. I have purchased a number of these guns for very low prices when the owners took them apart and gave up on repairing them.

The longer barrel would, in all odds, not contribute too much to the accuracy in such a low powered air rifle. It would be like me putting a 36 inch barrel on my Mini-14...
