I'd accept but I don't know what they mean by "peep" or "open" sights.

September 25 2003, 11:51 PM

Well, the peep sight is like an m-16 when you look throught a little hole and align the little hole up with the end piece like this (I) and the open sight is the 1077 where you use a fork like box like this I_l_I

Your on! Now that I know people want to do this. We must decide on a target. How about iether the 10 meter rifle open sight Or the 20 meter bench rest for those of us with scopes?

ok we are going to use this target

http://www.freewebs.com/crosman/targetstodownload.htm

its the NRA Official 25-ft target. The rules are

For open sights. No electronic sights. IMeaning stock sights only. 10 meters aka 25 feet standing. 3 shots each target using what ever ammo you want.

For the bench rest! Lets be 20 meters out aka 50 feet. and of course bench resting. I am not sure on the rules but I dont think you are allowed to lay down or use a bipod. I think you are allowed to crouch, rest your gun on your for arm, and sit in a wierd possition cross legged or on your but. Any scope under the power 10x40. I myself will be using a 3-9x32.

Does this sound fair?

I suggest that we standardize on using only the first clip from each c02 canister, as well as a standard ammunition weight and make. My reccomendation would ahve to be with the crossman copperhead wadcutter pellets. cheap, easy to find, and they leave nice round holes in the paper for easy scoring.

How about anything basic? I like RWS Round cause they are accurate on my gun. But if you guys want to keep it basic go ahead!

I think there's some confusion here...

October 1 2003, 8:38 PM

The target is a 25 foot target, not 10 meters. 10 meters is 32.8 feet. Big difference. 50 feet of course is 65.6 feet. Bench rest shooting is not done sitting on the ground on your ass (like 3 position competition) but actually on a bench with a sand bag to support your barrel. I imagine that these targets are intended for rifles with aperature (peep) sights, but that doesn't matter as long as everyone uses the same (like the standard open sights) for the 25 foot shoot, or whatever you want for the bench rest at 50 feet. Also worth mentioning. Is this to be strictly for the 1077 rifle? I think is should be, again for fairness. Thanks. ...Roy

A few more points

October 7 2003, 8:21 AM

not sorting out and using which pellet shoots the best with your gun, forcing someone to use a pellet that may shoot crappy in their gun is rather pointless shooting match.

Bench rest is using the best table type of bench that doesn't wobble you can find. Usually front and rear sandbags are used to support the rifle.

Don't place the barrel on the front bag as it could change the barrel harmonics and cause inaccuracy. Of course the 1077 barrel is shrouded so may not have as much effect as normal barrel. Always place the fore-arm of the rifle on the front sandbag.

True bench rest use a rear bag that has ears on the that form a V for the butt of the rifle to rest in. you aim the rifle but squeezing the rear ears of the bag using the left hand.

Normally you have the butt of rifle just touching your shoulder but the 1077's high trigger pull will not allow this (IMO). so use a tight shoulder contact and try use consistent hold on the grip and trigger pull.

also if you are using open sights on the 25 foot NRA target at 20 yards will be a little hard to see especially us old guys but do-able. I have a 42mm Red Dot on mine so I probably won't shoot the 10 meter standing event, the 20 meter bench rest are any sight rule or open sights only?

10 yards = 30 feet and 10 meter is 33 feet.
1 meter is 39.36996 inches or 3.28083 feet.

20 yards is 60 feet and 20 meters is 65.6166 feet.

BTW: an IHMSA center fire pistol Ram target using open sights is 200 meters away or 656.166 feet or 218.722 yards. a Football field is 100 yards.

Re: A few more points

Thank you Art! I was searching all over the place to find the answers but now I dont have to.

Ok so far we have to setel this

do we all use one brand of pellet? if yes than what brand?

I need a due date for the targets. Probably just at the end of this month.

Should we have evidence like pictures taken of us shooting the targets?

For the 10 meter open sights only but for the 20 meter how about anything under 40x? so you can have a 12x40 scope but nothing over the power 40. Sound good?
