I have a 1077 (bought used) that, up until today it seemed to hold air several days. Today it rapidly lost power after putting in a new CO2 cart and shooting less than 10 rds.
I have another one that holds CO2 seemingly forever sitting in the closet, as did the one mentioned above when I first got it.
My question... is there a gasket or seal that is supposed to go around the place where the cartridge is puntured? And if there is where can I get one, 'cuz it if it is supposed to be one, there ain't one now!
Also the knurled knob under the barrel, that tightens the cart down is very hard to tighten on the first gun, but pretty simple on the second gun... That may be the reason the first one is now leaking - but I'm still puzzled why it just started losing pressure, when, after I first bought it, it held air for some time just sitting in the closet, and managed at least a couple of reloads of the clip before pooping out.
The seal you're asking about is the end seal, part #38-128. It fits several other Crosman CO2 guns as well. You can get them from Crosman for $1.00 each.
You need to make sure that's were the CO2 is leaking, there are several other seals that could leak.
I doubt the seal is missing as it is enclosed and cannot fall out.

It does not enclose the cartridge tip, the tip just presses against the seal. The difficulity in screwing the cap in may be the cartridge. Some CO2 cartridges use harder steel and are harder to punch through. Unless the threads are messed up I see no reason for a problem. Sometime in the 90's they changed the threads on the caps so the caps cannot be exchanged between the old and new guns.
And if left in closet charged for long period then the seal will swell and stick itself to the CO2 Cart and will pull out when the cart is removed.
You really should not leave the Crosman's charged for any more than about a week. You can get away with 2 weeks but be prepared for a stuck cart & seal.
If you have to leave them charged then I would get a better quality seal and use that instead of the Crosman factory seal.
In my situation I have found that I must change the cartridge every other day ( I shoot about 7 or 8 shots nightly for pest control). Would a better seal allow me to keep a cartiridge in for 4 or 5 days? If so where do you find one?
