was is the difference of a 177. and a 22. pellet rifle? which is better for hunting squirrels, rabbits, etc. at about the same range? does velocity only matter,or does the caliber play a role in the easiness of of killing the subject?

I prefer a .22 for hunting small game...

but I sometimes like my high velocity .177 too. They'll both work but be sure that you use a higher velocity gun to push that .177 pellet faster. What you need to consider is FPE or Foot Pounds Energy (how much whack your round imparts on the game). FPE is the key.

still some questions

July 17 2005, 11:11 PM

i have been looking at a winchester 1000xs rellet rifle, tech force 99 air rifle, in ether 177. or 22., mainly because of their price and pretty high velocity( plus ive herd good things about them). the only thing im not sure is the cocking effort for both of them. if u could tell me about some more rifles in that price range.

Check out the Chinese Gun Forum...

you can do a search and check on different guns or just browse and learn.

I would suggest checking into a B20 or B21 personally. B20 is Break barrel copy of Beeman R9 and the B21 is a copy of the side cocking RWS 48. I am going to personally pick up a B21 in .22 cal for myself for just over $100.

I have an RWS 34 and it is a good entry level gun; you can get them in .177, .20, and .22 calibers for around $200.

calculates the ft/lbs of a pellet.for example, 12 grain pellet going at 900ft/sec = 21.59ft/lbs

rifles

July 18 2005, 1:15 PM

ive found some rifles that would probably fit my needs.
which would u reccomend?

benji legacy 1000
diana rws 34
rws 94
tech force 99
or a winchester 1000xs

these are my main choices. i dont really want a pump or something that costs alot(over 250), or a break barrel with a high cocking effort.

RWS 34

I'm partial to this gun because I have one and it's my go to gun when I want to get serious. I used the one-piece RWS C-Mount with a Daisy Powerline 3x9X40 scope available at Walmart. I hit where I aim it about everytime. I have one in .177 and would love to haved one in the new .20 caliber version they have. It's a very well made gun. I just don't understand why they used a plastic trigger on it; the trigger is a good trigger though. Go for the .20 or .22 if you want to use it to hunt with.
