yesterday is was wandering around my property and i saw a pigeon on my roof. i was right under it, it was about 10-15 yrds up. i was using a co2 cartridge that had been shot with about 8-12 times in my 1077 and useing some crapy daisy pellets, lost my good pellets, and shot it. i heard the pellet hit the pigeon but it flew instead of dieing. what went wrong?

could it be i have a leak,or had overpenetration

That's why I tell others not to use the 1077 as a hunter!!!

You'll get "fly-aways" on dove/pigeon sized birds unless you shoot them in the head. A .177 caliber pellet is not appropriate for taking these birds at 1077 velocities. I use my stock 2250 to take pigeons no problem with center mass shots, but..... I get the occasional "fly-away" even with the .22 (probably because my shot wasn't as center mass as I thought when I touched off the trigger).

I have taked pigeons and crows w/my RWS 34 in .177 caliber pushing RWS H-Points over 900 fps. Those hollow points sure expand nice at high velocity and transfer a bunch of energy into the target.

Use your 1077 for mice, sparrows and plinking. Get another gun for more substantial targets.

Just my 2 pennies,

I disagree. I've had nothing but luck with mine.
You may have just grazed the dove. I've killed many rabbits with only one shot, and not just in the head. One shot body kills. Somtimes they've been at 25 yards plus.

Rabbits are much easier to kill than...

squirrels and pigeons in my hunting experience. I still wouldn't use a 1077 to take a rabbit or pigeon. I've shot right through a pigeon w/my 2250 at 15m and had it fly away. I tracked it down and completed the job w/a header. On examination the first pell went through the side and out the other behind the breast. That doesn't happen regularly, but I've seen it a lot more often w/medium powered .177s than w/medium powered .22s. I'll stick to .22s and .25s for pigeons in medium power or my high powered RWS 34 in .177 w/RWS H-points. I know you can take pigeons and rabbits w/a 1077 but I don't think it's the best option. Respect your quarry. Call me a freak'n humanitarian.

1077 is a great plinker.
