An air rifle must be under 500fps to not be classified as a FIREARM which requires a federal Purchase and Acquisition License (PAL).

Depending on the particular gun in question, bringing it up to, and surpassing its original (U.S.) specifications may require something as small as replacing a spring and sealing a vent port, or something as large as changing a pile of springs (i.e. hammer, valve, trigger, etc) and either swapping in American-spec valves or modifying the Canadian unit extensively.

Do a search in here for specifics on the 1077- it is not an "easy" rifle to modify as these things go.
