A few days ago, with no knowledge or prior use of pellet guns, I purchased a 1077 solely for the purpose of pest control. I've got macadamia nut trees in the rear yard which reach up into the phone lines. Local rats come across the lines to feast on the nuts, then drop the hollow shells below. After watching their methods for a couple of nights, and getting acquainted with the rifle, I set out this evening to take them down.
As dusk set in, I posted up outside with a clear view of the rat's path. Shortly after it became dark, a rat, as suspected, came running for the tree. Propping the barrel up on a tree branch and locking the rat in sight, I waited for him to come closer. Just after reaching the phone pole nearby, he stopped a moment before jumping to the next wire which leads to the trees. This seemed to be the opportune moment, so I popped off a round and sure enough, it hit. The rat lost balance, tried to grasp the line, then fell to it's death in the yard where I buried it shortly thereafter. Here are some photos:
