Re: Shooting Distances.

January 22 2009, 12:28 PM

I havnt fired mine yet , no pellets.Id be interested to know though as im making some targets for a range out back.
It came with a nice scope 4x32 , ill be disappointed to find it isnt required.

In saying that i watched some interesting videos on youtube regarding the 1077 , seemed a fair distance. What impressed me most on youtube was a dude firing a 1377 @ 70 yards and sent a can spinning and flying with his first shot.

Something you guys could help me with is this , im offered the handbook for the 1077 and also an exploded view diagram for around 10 bucks...do i need these ? Am i likely to find any diagrams and help on line if say i need to replace seals or do any kind of repair or upgrade if theres any available?

shooting distances

January 22 2009, 12:34 PM

i mostly have my rifles for chasing coyotes & javelina near my trash can at about 100'(at that distance odds r it's a slight sting only).... when i set up a scope or red dot i'm usually 10 meters away.... i'm old & feeble but firing at a beer can at 20 meters is a hit almost every shot, well maybe 80%happy.gif.... as for those that can freehand put a quarter size grouping at that distance of 20 meters u gotta find someone that has a good aim & much younger:-).... hth.... pops

Pop's your a star happy.gif thank you for the link , its in my favorites now until i get upstairs on the main computer with the printer. You saved me 10 big ones Sir , thank you.

Heres a "if you were me" scenario , the 1077 i bought looks showroom condition , brand new look.Even the scope is new looking.

Rereading the guys for sale ad i remembered its actually 3 years old according to his ad.Ive no idea how it fires yet.

Theres a chance ill get out for some pellets tomorrow ,theres a lot of snow.Of course id want to try it out cold or no cold.

What should i be looking for considering its used and 3 yr old ?

He did give me 12 Co2 bottles so using one to try out each airgun i got from him leaves me 10.

Id try out the Crosman 357 at the same time.News on the Crosman 1377 is i got email from Amazon saying it shipped this morning.

Im pretty handy with the woodwork tools so plan to replace the grips and pump handle when i find some nice hardwood.

Pops .. whats a javalina ?

1077

jake, ur welcome.... unless u want to do a tear down which i don't reco right off the bat aside from looking at the physical condition there's really not much u can do to check it out w/o shooting a couple of clips.... 1st check the numbers on the underside of the trigger guard; the 1st 3-4 will tell u when mfg (mo./yr.).... i know u gotta know the person but ask what his experience has been re "fly-away shots (barrel flop) & if he's placed a shim in the barrel (believe properly called delrin & about $8 s/h included on ebay; joe mc on this site sells them).... lastly try a co2 & listen for a leak.... u say it's cold but if u load the co2 (was at room temp), move quickly u may get one shot off & maybe 2.... (check the shot grouping**** mine as well as others seems to need the rear sight moved way left to get accuracy & that's why i went to a inexpensive red dot ($15).... a javelina is a wild pig.... actually not a true pig family member but close; resembles a wild boar & run 30-60#.... stay well, pops

Pops, 100 feet? Holy crow....that's nice. How many shots per co2 cart do you get?

Jake, put a drop or two of crosman pellgun oil on the tip of the co2 cart before you insert it into the gun. It helps the lubricate and condition the seal as well as the valve. Don't use regular oil.

In the winters I only shoot in my basement, 10 meters only.

shots per 12g co2

January 22 2009, 9:13 PM

100' really ain't far when ur shooting at a critter the size of a small german shepard.... i use red dots on my semi auto rifles as it gives me a wider range of view as the target starts to run....w/the 12g co2 & get 3 and maybe 4 clips (3 for sure that have good pop)... i have the upgrade to the 88g but candidly have never used it as i save the 88g for my nightstalker.... in it i get over 200 shots (rapid fire will use more then slow single shots).... pops

Pops,

100 feet is a nice shooting distance. How's the pellet trajectory at that distance? Is the pellet still traveling flat, or are you adjusting elevation for (noticeable) pellet drop?

I use red dots as well. They're my optics of choice. I'm too jittery for scopes...too much coffee.

I totally agree Pops , last thing i want to do is strip the thing down.Ill check that trigger guard for the number , that will be interesting.
The barrel shim thing , is it something i could check myself ? The seller never mentioned any work done to it but left me an email address and phone # , if i can just check myself id rather.

Im really surprised you say i might get 1 or 2 shots off if its cold , the Co2 is stored indoors , i had no idea it could freeze up that quickly. We still have snow on the ground and more to come next week so i might hold off on the testing.Id hate to waste a whole can of air for the sake of 1 or 2 shots.
The wee springer will be here next week so ill have to content myself,id like to check the 1077 out though , maybe ill come up with something.

I wont forget the oil Four eyes , thanks for that

one way to tell for sure if the barrel shim was installed is if the front sight is missing, however the after mkt shim can be installed & then the front sight with its attached plug reinstalled (sight & stock barrel shim all one piece).... bottomline u gotta fire the rascal & c if ur groups r fairly tight w/o an odd shot straying off (fly-aways).... i bought a shim but my rifle altho used rarely (10-20 clips total) when it gets 50-ish or below still fires straight (wish i could blame my poor aim on the rifle).... have fun.... pops

100' shot.....

January 23 2009, 5:24 AM

at that distance i fire pretty much on target, but just below.... initially i went out & put a couple of cans on & around the area plus some paper plates to give me some idea of where the hell i was actually hitting (a ping on the side of a heavy rubberized/plastic trash can tells me little).... my elevation off the front porch is about 4' higher then the 55g trash can at the end of the driveway so there's some natural adjust made by the pellet in flight.... rather then a light pellet to give me speed i use the beeman laser sport 8.2g to give the pellet some more sting at that distance..... windage here is more of a problem then elevation.... u just gotta go out & work w/ur rifle.... regards, pops

Hi Pops , the front sight is in place , strange green looking thing.I had a look at the trigger guard and the numbers are as follows , D045 0489.
Going by what you were saying does this place the gun as april 1989 ? That doesnt fit in with what i was told really.
It was advertised as 3 years old.Of course theres no telling how many years it sat in a sports store before it sold..but still , its apparantly older than i thought.

It truly does look showroom stuff , i wouldnt say it looked 20 years old at all..im confused

Looking down inside the barrel i can see there is something akin to an inner sleeve ?

the front sight is a "fiber-optic sight; works better then a stock steel one especially in daylight.... as for the mfg year u taking it one digit too much; read as 04/5 = april, 2005 so 3 (now 4) is correct....
looking down the barrel, that inner sleeve is actually the barrel, the outter part that u look at is merely a outter shell that makes the barrel more aesthetic/look bigger.... the actual barrel has an approx, o/d of 5/16" & the i/d of the outter shell is 7/16" so there's 1/8" that can/may/does allow the actual barrel to torque when shooting.... the end plug that's part of the front site most times doesn't do its job of preventing that thus the delrin plug.... hth.... pops

Re: jake's 1077

I remember years ago I used to have space to shoot 100 feet. I measured it out. I also had to hold my aim over the target. I'm hoping to get to a farm this summer with my 1077 to shoot those distances.

Jake, the front side (delrin piece) is also serves as a guide sleeve for the barrel. When you get a pellet jam, the two "ears" above the trigger is used to move the barrel forward about a quarter inch. When a jam occurs, use the ares to unlock out barrel and move it forward, then you can release the magazine clip. After removing the jam, put the barrel back into position. The front sight allows the barrel to slide forward, then back.

Thanks Pops , i feel a lot better about it now , its just as the guy said , about 3 yr old or at least he had owned it for 3 years.
Ill try to avoid barrel pellet jams , id imagine slow methodical precise shooting will help , i hadnt realised it was semi automatic when i got it , ive no real interest in rapid fire although i imagine it will be fun on occasion.
