I just recently took my 15 year old 1077 apart, cleaned and examined the seals, and reassembled. Then I chronied the gun, useing Crosman Premier Hollow Points (7.9 grains), a fresh CO2 cartridge and here are the results:
I feel that the results are fairly consistant for a $65 , 15 year old rifle!
Its interesting to note, that the first shot was the lowest feet per second, and the second shot, was very high..... After the first few shots, the gun settled, and was fairley consistant! Shot 12 and 16 were tied for the highest FPS.
These results were performed on a 75 degree fairenheight afternoon, useing a Beta Chrony. I did NOT take into account the time between shots. It varied. Looking back, I should have had a consistant time table set up, between shots.....Maybe next time! I tried to give at least 15 seconds between shots, but again, it varied.
Ive achieved higher velocities with lighter pellets, and lower velocity with heavier pellets. I choose the Crosman Premier pellets for this test, as I feel like they are in the middle of the spectrum weight wise.
Again, this rifle was purchased brand new, by myself, aprox. 15 years ago, and has had no modifications done, other than a nice scope, and a recent disassembly, and cleaning on the CO2 Cartridge seal.
I would be very interested in seeing someone performing a similar test, on a much newer gun!
Several features I enjoy about my old 1077, are:
1. VERY INEXPENSIVE. ($65 brand new, in todays dollars!)
2. Its semi automatic.
3. Its very quiet, and back-yard friendly.
Over the years, I have nailed more black birds with this thing, than any other airgun Ive owned, and never had a noise complaint from a neighbor.
I forgot to mention the gun also has a Mac-1 Barrel stabilizer, which I feel greatly increases accuracy, however, would not effect my Chrony F.P.S. results.
Damn, those are consistent numbers. My gun was actually manufactured a couple of years ago according to the serial nunber....but I bought the gun brand new in an unopened box with factory seal. My shot to shot FPS is all over the place. MV inconsistency seems to be an inherent trait of the newer 1077s.
I'm still kicking myself for not buying the 1077 when they first came out. Those seem to be much better made, with more consistent muzzle velocity.
Hmmm....maybe I should store mine for a number of years and see if gets better with age....LOL.
Im courious what pellet you are useing, and if you have tried other pellets, and still have the same problem??
I would have thought that a newer 1077, would be more consitant, than my results.
Maybe your 1077 is still "breaking in" ? How many pellets have been shot though it since purchased?
Eventually, I plan on sitting down , and recording numerous brands and weights of different pellets. Just dont have the time right now.
Here was a quick test, useing ultra light-weight PBA pellets: Outside temp was cool, aprox. 65 degrees:
1. 598
2. 643 (Thats my fastest shot ever recorded with this gun)
3. 615
4. 604
5. 594
6. 593
7. 581
8. 604
9. 585
10. 554
11. Had to quit! Getting dark outside , and my chrony began getting errors due to darkness...
Again, with CO2 guns, its important to note that if you fire rounds quickly, repeatively, that the FPS number will decline. So even though the 1077 is a multi-shoot repeater, you actually loose FPS , by pulling the trigger quickly. The CO2 cartridge gets cold, thus a lower FPS rateing. If you wait 20 or 30 seconds between shoots, you might get a more consistant reading. Too bad someone doesnt mass produce a simple heater, to maintain a steady CO2 temperature!
Im looking forward to trying these PBA pellets again, only on a 90 degree sunny afternoon. I believe I will be able to get an even faster FPS reading with warmer temps.
I feel like the Crosman Premiers are an accurate pellet, and the pba pellets are going to be the fastest. However, if you compare round 10, youll see the the CP pellets were actually faster than PBA's! Todays test with the PBA pellets do not reflect the fast speeds like I thought, but again, its cool outside. Time will tell!

Great!! Your the first 1077 owner that has stated that the 1077 is capable of "nailing" (I assume you mean killing) black birds. Pyramyd air told me I woutd need a .22 springer in the $200+ range. What pellet did you use and can you use pointed pellets? Thanks, Andy
