Response to For those of you with littlies not growing well...

I am not sure the thyroid meds have any impact on your childs fast metabolism..I believe it would impact if your thyroid is too fast..But that is an idea and I am calling my thyroid doc today to check, as DD is low weight and still wakes several times a night. I have Hashi's and take levoxyl. I also still BF.

DD is still underweight and I give her high fat meats (lamb) nightly..also she gets one avocado per day, high fat yogurt and at one time we had to add a high fat liquid supplement that the ped advised us to give called pediasure..she did not love that but we tried. Carnation has too much sugar but is a good idea. You can also check at your health food store for high fat supplements. I also give her healthy snacks throughout the day..including high fat cheese, creme cheese with whole wheat bread..(for snacks, not meals) and she gets two tablespoons of ice creme daily. We watch the sugar (I bake with agave or brown rice syrup). Everything she eats other than meat, gets a pat of butter on top of it or a teaspoon of olive oil.. Also, banana, peanut butter. I bake cupcakes with creme cheese frosting, which she loves..she gets this once or twice a week. There are many healthy snacks in the health food store, which are loaded with calories, low sugar and low salt. I also grind walnuts and almonds and add it to meatballs and other foods I make her to add the calories.

My ped has helped us tremendously and she has gained over the past year since we switched to this new doctor. She went from the 3% to the 15% in the past few months. Ped also does weight checks every eight weeks..and yesterday, she weighed 25 pounds at 2 years and 3 months. Now that she is older, I take her with me to the supermarket and she can chose one or two snacks herself. She loves doing this and I am surprised that she goes for the good stuff.

I know they become more active as they grow and low weight children need more calories to burn as they start to move around.

The most important thing I have learned is not to get nervous if she does not eat..I was so stressed by this..Now that I am more relaxed, she eats more..children are so smart and sensitive..they pick up all of our stress.

Hugs to you and hope you are safe.
