You may not be creating a monster, so take heart.
My boys have slept in their own beds in their own rooms from very early on, but at around 15 months or so, ds #1 started REFUSING to sleep anywhere but with us when we traveled.
This is a battle I choose not to fight, as honestly, I don't blame him for wanting the extra security of being with us when we're not in our home. He does this even at his grandparents' house.
It is has never, ever created a problem with his home routine. He's 4 1/2 now & still won't sleep without us when we travel.
My worst fear about it is that his brother will follow suit b/c the bed is a full at my parents' house, but at 2 1/2, he will still sleep in the pack & play.
There are various ways to deal with this, but we just went with the flow & it didn't cause any problems. I decided I wasn't fighting it during a trip where he cried so hard he threw up. He had an ear infection we weren't aware of, so that was a contributor, but I decided that was it for me.
