LO sick - high fever - no other symptomsJuly 7 2012 at 5:45 AM

I told myself I wouldn't post about this. This is only the 2nd time LO has been sick and, like the first, he's spiking high temps over 105, etc. We have been dosing him for over 2 days now. Unlike last time, there are NO other obvious symptoms such as cough, sniffles, runny nose, congestion. Just this horrible fever that does go down to near normal with dosing but shoots right back up to 105 & up right at 6 to 7 hours past medicine. (also unlike last time when it went down only to about 100 to 101 with dosing. The other scary thing is he hasn't come in contact with ANY children and very few other adults for weeks -- we can't figure out where he could have caught anything.
The other differences is LO will not eat and barely drinks with this fever --- not the case last time. That is scaring me.
We have decided to take him to doctor today (just gave him a dose with a temp of 104.8 and he went back to sleep - so we will go in later).
I almost wish he had a stuffy nose or pull at his ear or something but -- NOTHING. Now, of course, after a couple days of no sleep I'm starting to google things like west nile virus, etc.
Ladies with experience -- what would you do? High fever w/ no symptoms that just keeps on going? Take him in? Make them run EVERY test? I know from last time how traumatic that will be for him if we do it and he's already so freaked out and sad and scared from having medicine forced on him several times a day. How normal is high temp for days w/ no other symptoms? What could it be?
As always, thanks in advance -- this just never seems to get easier.
