We had to see Ped GI yesterday, my son needs an upper GI endoscopy. Test is scheduled for this Monday. I'm a wreck. DH will be out of town for work, OF COURSE.
When/how do I tell my son this is going to be done? How much notice do I give him?
He won't be able to eat or drink 6 hrs prior to test...great. supposed to be very hot here on Mon.
He doesn't handle change well. He's pretty good w/doctors, but I know he'll get upset about this so I need to tell him in a way that won't freak him out. The test will be done in a large medical center which my son has never seen. We saw the doctor in his smaller satellite office.
My son is quite sharp, and comprehends medical stuff fairly well which is both a blessing and curse. Describing the test won't be too hard, but OTOH, he'll understand what's going to happen which may create anxiety.
Anyone go through this w/a 4 yr old?
Advice for Mommy? I know it could be far, far worse...but I dread it. School drop-off was terrible this morning and I cried over THAT...can you imagine how I'll be on Monday? And I need to show a happy face for his sake? Oh boy...
