Well it looks like I only net a tiny bit this month. I didn't take my vitamins AT ALL this month so that's a likely reason.

The good news is I am completely comfortable with my regimen now. And my hair is better than ever!

target length my curls are now at collarbone! My length being 26 is very comfortably BSL but not yet BCL. I was hoping to reach that sometime this year so we'll see...

I'm also growing increasingly happy with my texture. it easily brushes smooth. I've really liked being a curly honestly in spite of the shrinkage factor. BUT I'm still not comfortable enuf to wear my hair down. But that's ok. I prob wdnt anyway. I've done a number of things with updos and look fwd to be able to do more as I grow.

Goals to get back on vitamins pronto! I have plenty of MSM so I restarted that. I need to buy Biotin for faster growth and FSO for oil. I would still like to order HF37 and start that in May.

Visually I'm still at BSL when wet. Still not BCL. I'm curious if I got more or less growth esp since I got 1 in./mo in jan and feb measure-in and only ¾ in. in mar measure-in. I'm curious if that is directly related to my slowly slacking off on vits.

but march was a great hair month. I loved my hair most every single day that month and I feel its getting btter all the time.

Vitamins - I did buy MSM on a swap bd - PP 500 mg, 2 bottles. I still have plenty of enzymes left. Gotta buy biotin and FSO.

I wd like to get HF37. Maybe start that in may. I'm just very curious to see a diff but I don't wanna start it until I can afford to be consistent. It wd cost $50/mo. They have 6-mo. memberships with free shipping @ $50/mo due the 15th of ea month.

I still think trying Perfect Food and Primal Defence wd be good for me. I saw a discount site for $31/bottle, can't rmbr how many tablets. I think this would be good for overall good health but its not something I can do just yet. I wanna keep it in the front of my mind.

To Try
Well I did try a roller set last month but it didn't turn out well - too pouffy. I'm just not good at it. I should attempt a braid out but really don't have the patience or skill.

I have being doing a few more experiments with buns and enjoying that. I did a Madeleine cinnamon bun. It didn't come out the same bc I didn't have a braided scrunchie but it was a nice look. I got several compliments on it.

Progress
Hubby measured and it looked 26 to him but I think it was just a wee bit off. He said well it is definitely more than ½. So I figured on ¾. its so hard to measure as a curly bc I tend to be a perfectionist and I know my measuring is not perfect. But I think it best to continue so I can chart average growth.

Nutrition
I ran out of Biotin the 3rd wk of Feb. And only had a few FSO so I took that only occ. I kept up with the MSM every night and did well on the enzymes abt the first 3 wks. I really must get more Biotin. I'm not comfortable w/o it and wonder if I might have gained an entire inch.

The first half of this month was quite difficult. But I felt very good by the 3rd wk. I've been sleeping a LOT this last wk. Discomfort as of yesterday but it is managed.

Styles
LHC has something called the style of the week that I wanna rmbr to check out for ideas.

I'm thinking of trying a modified version of a Neil updo. Perhaps part hair from ear to ear, bun the back half and take the front and make some type of roll, double roll or twists.

A braided bun would be nice if I can pull it off.

For a change up I've taken to parting my hair on the side rather than always combed back or centred. I like it. Such a small change made such a difference in my restlessness.

Product/Regimen
Longhairs. Wash/cond daily. I did a deep honeybee trtmt the end of the month. And it seemed to suddenly just click and my hair and texture behaved great this wk. I finished my first rotation of all 'poos so it was funny having it come together that way.

I plan to continue to deep treat once a wk perhaps starting overnite. And to oil treat perhaps on weekends, both days.

I positively love the curl cream! This is something I think I will use a lot. And if I ever wear my hair down this is the perfect styling aid.

Vitamins
MSM-1500 this is really the only one I kept up all month. Enzymes most of the month. I did Biotin-5 mg and FSO-500 only half the month.

Growth
I still have a long way to go esp since I'm so curly the appearance will still be diff from the measurement. But I'm happy with the progress. It seems to be steady.

Expenses
I ordered finishing prod this month - $50. and the last of the month I ordered more scalp oil. I don't want to be spare with it so I ordered more so I never feel like oh no its almost all gone I better only use a little. That was $30. I must replenish my vitamin supply. It would only cost $20, Biotin, FSO, Silica.

Targeting
I'm at bra strap length. But still have a little bit left to get to bra Clasp length but not much. Dry curls just shy of collarbone.

A Pause to Look Back Where She Had Walked

March 3 2004, 8:44 AM

Vitamins/Overall Progress Chart
Nov.: MSM, Biotin, Silica. Serious tangle and matting problem. First began new prod./daily washing.
~ I really discovered how much I love washing my hair. It’s a great way to start the day.

Dec.: HF37, MSM powder, Silica. Tangles all better. Massage and No-Measure/Journal Challenges.
~ Massage is the first part of my morning routine and the horn combs are great. I’ve also been trying to spend more time on my journaling. Sometimes I’ve done well and sometimes not. But it’s a great focus.

Jan. Goal: enzymes, PF, Biotin, FSO, EPO, MSM, Silica. Brush/horn comb routine. Doc. measure-ins and notes. (Note new meds: FS-15 mg.)
~ Well I didn’t actually take all those vitamins in Jan. But I did keep up the Biotin, FSO, and MSM. I ran low on Silica and didn’t take them as often. The Enzymes were difficult to remember b/c I kept them refrigerated. I did plan to start charting growth as well as targeting. Since curls have shrinkage I thot that I would keep a little separate focus for my long-term appearance goal.

Feb. Plan: HF37, PF, PD, Biotin, FSO, EPO, MSM, Silica. +½"? I don't wanna set too high.
~ I didn’t go back to the HF37 nor did I get the Garden of Life stuff either. I stuck with the MSM all month. I had run out of Silica and was very low on FSO so I was sparing with it. I ran out of Biotin completely around the middle of the month. The good news is I stuck with MSM every night as well as the Enzymes at least once a day. The best news of all is that I surpassed my goal of ½. I got a whole inch btw. Jan-Feb. and a ¾ btw. Feb.-Mar. so that’s better than I expected. I feel a need to get back to the Biotin tho’.

March Plan: I really think I would do well to get more Biotin, FSO, and Silica. The Biotin most especially as I feel rather lost without it. I have considered getting HF37 this month so I can begin that in April but I’m not sure if it’s feasible yet. I caught up with an MSM deal on a swap board so I won’t run out of that. The Biotin, FSO, and Silica should be about $20-25. The HF37 is $50/mo. and I’m still not sure if I can take on that expense. I think the key with HF37 is to be consistent and if I can’t do it every month I wonder if I should even start. But that’s something to consider.

Growth
As for charting I have made real progress this year. I got an inch a month to start with. Tho this month I only got ¾ and wondered if it’s b/c I ran out of Biotin mid-month in February, I really wasn’t expecting such a growth spurt and ¾ is still above the typical average so I’m content with that.

Jan. – 24” (BS)
Feb. – 25”
Mar. – 25¾”
I achieved an 1” a mo. and then ¾” this month. A good way to start the year I think.

Thoughts of Frou-Frou and Coiffures

March 3 2004, 8:56 AM

I'm trying to do a few different things with buns and updos this month. I've been checking out the Styling Station and might be able to modify a few of those things. But I can't do a lot of elaborate things b/c, tho' my hair is getting longer, due to currrlz I'm a little limited. I still don't use heat to straighten, just a brush. It's pretty straight when I start out but by the time it's on its way up it's obviously shrunk.

Fox had great advice for me that I didn’t think of: A ROLLER! Thanks Fox!:
"(1) When your hair is damp, and you smooth it onto a roller will it stay less curly that way? The reason I ask is that you might be able to do a version of the floral bun if you put your hair up into a pony tail, then dampened the length. Once the length was damp, if your hair will smooth over a roller, you could section your hair into 4 or 5 (or less) sections, then roll your hair over the roller, slide the roller out, then pin in place. You do that one on the top, one on each side, and one on the bottom, then one in the center (sort of sitting on the others curled rolls). (2) If that doesn't work, then why not try decorating your buns rather than trying to make them "more." Bun decoration can really change the look of a bun. Besides the obvious hairsticks and Ficcare clips, why not try a little barrette, placed dead center of your bun. It's not for hold, but rather, just grab a tiny bit of hair and let it be the "center jewel" of your bun. You can also braid in a scarf, which will change the look, or wrap ribbons around a bun and let them dangle down. (3) One other idea is to do a sort of messy bun, wrapping and pinning your hair in place, but not tucking those ends under. Let them hang off to the side, then spread them out."

This did really help inspire me. So I thought that I would try a variation of a Neil updo. The hair is parted ear to ear. The back half is bunned or maybe a braided bun. And the front half is kind of in a double braided twist. I'm not much of a braider! Not even a simple one. But sometimes I can sweet talk hubby into it when he's helping me to brush or whatever and I can possibly pull it off just for a change.

I did enjoy the cameo buns, a Madeleine style and will visit her site a few more times for more inspirations.

I think braiding (or twisting in) a ribbon and then putting up is a great idea too.

Then Avri posted a few ideas she had done with a topsy tail!!! I don't have one and my hair isn't nearly long enuf to pull off the looks she has but it's interesting to ponder a topsy tail and what I might be able to do with it... so I'll put that on the list as well.

Monday - The 1st

March 3 2004, 9:06 AM

I did more of a cream rinse after wash and my hair was sooo very soft that I had flyaways.

I just did a dab of Clean Gel and wore a headband.

For bun styling I used a fake-arre and left the ends messy.

After wash and leave-in, I smoothed with curl cream and left it wavy.

It stayed smooth all day. No flyaways.

I got compliments on this simple ponytail that I thot was too bushy.

Wednesday - The 3rd

March 3 2004, 9:09 AM

I washed this morning, the last day of rotation on the Protein shampoo. I again applied the cond then got outta the shower so it could sit a while. I combed thru then rinsed a lot.

My hair looked a little more bushy than usual. But maybe I left the towel on a little too long. Water is my friend. My hair draws up the moisture really fast. I need to rmbr. to just basically blot the drips and that's it.

I used the Oil-Free cond. as a leave in and then ponytailed loosely.

I got a blob of Curl Cream and ran through as if making a ponytail and there were my ringlets that had disappeared! I ponytailed but tucked the ends in then I later felt it was pulling strands so I loosened the ponytail. I have a florally decorated fake-arre with me that I may put up later on when I get to a mirror.

Thursday - The 4th

March 4 2004, 9:11 AM

I used the Superclear shampoo today. It felt very nice and clean and airy. I conditioned with the Oil Free again letting it sit a min. and rinsing in the sink. I concentrated on rinsing well. I used it as a leave-in too.

Then I ponytailed my hair and got a blob or 2 of Curl Cream. I scrunched it in this time to make curls. Then I smoothed it gently with my Kinderbaby as I rebunned. I got just a dab of Clean Gel and applied to my hairline edges. Then I rubbed my hands together to gather the excess and smoothed back to the bun. The waves are a little stronger today but at the same time lay smooth and shiny.

And Hooray! I received in the mail a new bottle of scalp oil! I want to really concentrate on my scalp massage in the mornings.

Friday - The 5th

March 5 2004, 6:13 AM

This morning I got up a little earlier and watched a favorite show while I concentrated on my oil and massage. I thot I would start giving that a lot of attn this month.

I got only a few drops of oil really but went over the scalp several times massaging it in. I used my horn comb again. Then I went over it even a third time in the top crown area that tends to bother me now and then. My scalp felt very very warm and nice. I used chillout.

I washed with Superclear again. And conditioned with Oil Free. My hair didn't wrap around each other or anything as I washed. It stayed very loose and hung well. I rinsed the cond. well in the sink.

I parted my hair from ear to ear and made 2 bee butts. I didn't even need any styling aid or creme. It was very smooth and nice. I wore a headband with hearts and stars. I fastened my back bee-butt with a fuchsia claw clip and I loosed the front and let it hang to the side somewhat. Kind of a young hairstyle. But it's Friday!

It was rather a rough weekend but my hair was just great.

I washed with the Superclear. Then I did the Protein Treatment (a hot oil trt). I covered it with a wet towel then a warm towel outta the dryer and put a plastic bag over the whole thing. I left it on for 25 min.

My hair was wayyy curly from the oil. A little wrapped around each other. Not tangly as in what I used to have but took a little more time to comb it out gently.

Results: My hair was sooo shiny! I used curl cream and my hair was so smooth too. It looked like it was gel'd but it wasn't hard crunchy or stiff.

Sunday - The 7th

March 10 2004, 7:38 AM

I washed with the Yin&Yang softening shampoo. And then I did the hot oil treatment for a 2nd day. I applied the hot oil then got outta the shower and got dressed etc. So this time I only left it on for about 10 min. or so.

It rinsed very nicely. I tried using the horn comb this time to smooth.

I had read that some curly-haireds like to use this oil trtmt as a leave in for its weight. So I thot I would try it just once. My curls did hang nicely but I never wear my hair down anyway.

After arranging with horn comb, I got a small blob of Clean Gel and smoothed the strands with a horn comb. I think I still like my curl cream best but am glad I tried it.

I used the Yin Yang softn. shampoo again. I really like this smell and its soft lather. I used my favorite cond. - Trees Stimulating Cond. I applied and then got outta the shower so it could sit a bit.

After I got to the sink I re-slathered on a little more cond. My hair really curled up again. I think I made the mistake of piling my hair a bit to keep it from dripping. But it rinsed out well and it combed out nicely.

I was in kind of a hurry today so I parted on the side and ponytailed. My hair is always so smooth with this cond. My edges wanted a little neatening tho' so I ran back in to re-wet and smoothed with curl cream and it was perfect.

I used the YinYang shampoo again followed by Trees Stim. Cond.

My hair was very soft afterward. I used the Lilith Rinse as a leave-in. I have tried this now and then lately and it often seemed to make my hair too soft and fluffy. But this time it was very very soft and silky nice. It stayed perfect all day long.

It was smooth but not as slick as most leave-ins. So I just barely brushed then ponytailed using a bit of Curl Cream to neaten.

It was a great hair day. I couldn't keep my hands off my hair it felt so smooth. I almost couldn't believe it was mine. lol

Had a very very very rough night tho'.

Wednesday - The 10th

March 10 2004, 7:53 AM

It was a terrible night last night but I got up early to get a good start.

I shampooed with Hairgasm Cool. This is one of my favorite smells. I followed with Trees Stimulating Cond. This time I applied it in the shower as well as rinsing in the shower. And it did very well.

Immediately after rinsing the cond., I divided my hair from ear to ear and put in ponytails, tucking the ends inside. I put a towel around my neck to catch drips. The ponytails kept my hair smooth.

I applied the #10-B as a leave-in to one at a time. I put the #10-B in my hand, rubbed together and used one hand to apply to the ends and then used the other hand and applied to edges and somewhat in middle. Then I rubbed my hands together, re-ponytailed, then did the other ponytail.

It looked great. I double-bunned, one behind the other. Then I re-bunned with a blob of curl cream in my hands. I fastened with Fox balleryna hairsticks.

I'm happy with my style today. I've been trying to switch up and do a few new things. I'm really excited about Fox's new changes to the site.

March 11 2004, 6:39 AM

I wanted to deep treat today. So last night I coated my ends and edges with Honeybee Long Treatment. (cute name eh').

This morning I shampoo'd with Hairgasm Cool. I coated my hair with the Honeybee starting at the ends. Then I got outta the shower so it could sit a while. The room was nice and steamy and I had an idea. I turned the hot water back on and let the room get steamier as I started to begin dressing. I turned the water off and enjoyed the steam.

Then I rinsed my Honeybee and followed with Trees Stimulating Cond. I combed that thru loving the feeling of my texture. This is my favorite smell of cond. I parted from ear to ear and put in 2 ponytails then blotted any drips.

I took my ponytails down one at a time and got some Bliss Tips Ends Oil and applied to my wet tips then rubbed my hands together and reponytailed, one behind the other. The oil really felt great and my hair was smooth so I didn't even need any styling aid.

I put the top ponytail in a bun. And the bottom ponytail I pulled up into an upside down French twist. I fastened each with Long Hair Jewels hairsticks, white bone with pink rose beads.

Friday - The 12th

March 14 2004, 11:57 AM

I did a 2nd day of deep treat today. I used the steam feature of showering to let my hair get a sort of steam treatment while the cond. sat on my hair.

My hair looked great right away and I didn't feel like I needed to do anything to it. So I sprayed with Magic Spray (a conditioning waters).

For styling - I ponytailed one behind the other. Only this time I put the front ponytail off to one side and bunned that. And then the back ponytail I French twist'd again. I fastened the side ponytail with a Fox hairstick - the twisted glass one. And the back twist I used a fake-arre. I smoothed the edges with literally a half dab of Curl Cream.

For some reason my hair didn't wanna stay up today! Not sure what I did so different other than the side ponytail in front. Maybe I didn't part as evenly as I thot and the front was too heavy? Not sure. But it was a good day just the same.

Saturday - The 13th

March 14 2004, 12:00 PM

I was going to switch 'poos today. So I started last night by coating with 10-B cond. My hair was a little damp. I made 2 ponytails and got a dab of 10-B and rubbed my hands together. Using one hand I made a wet wick of the ends of my hair. Then I took the other hand and used that for the edges and worn areas of my hair. I rubbed my hands together again to gather the excess and smoothed as if making a ponytail. Then I repeated with the other ponytail.

In the morning I shampooed switching to Herb Medic Shampoo this time. I noticed my hair hung down nice and straight the whole time. My hair always goes straight when it's wet but it was noticeable enough for me to mention it so I wanted to make note of it.

After shower I did a basic cond. of 10-B and then I parted on the side and ponytailed. I was a little fuzzy head today somehow so I went back in and brushed maybe twice and it stayed down. But I did a little half dab of curl cream just b/c I like it so much.

It turned out to be a rough night last night. I fell asleep but woke in the middle of the night and somehow wandered to the bathroom and put a little cond. on my edges. Still and all my hair was a MESS when I woke this morning! lol It looked like I'd been in a fight.

I noticed it took a bit for me to actually get a lather as a I shampoo'd. It hung perfectly nice tho' while I was washing so I guess my fighting in my sleep hadn't done any real damage. lol

After I 10-B cond. and rinsed, I did a little more as a leave-in. I parted on the side and ponytailed. I was surprised again that it looked just fine. I did use a pinch of Styling Gel to my edges, mostly for shine.

This was last session with Herb Medic Superclear shampoo. I conditioned with Trees Stimulating Cond. and rinsed well in the shower. Then I got outta the shower and slathered a little more again and combed thru and rinsed and rinsed and rinsed. My scalp felt so clean and tingly. It still feels nice and tingly now.

I ponytailed afterward for control while I gathered my things. Then I used the Trees Stim. as a leave-in. This is a little treat that I do now and then. It works almost like using a mousse b/c it's so creamy almost foamy. I smoothed my ponytail back with it. I made the ponytail all the way in the back this time, at the base of my neck.

After my hair was dry I got a pinch of Bliss Butter and warmed between my fingers and smoothed my edges. Then I put my ponytail up with a fake-arre with bronze and rose colored florals.

Today I switched shampoos. I washed with Lavatea Softn. As usual the first time I lathered my curls grabbed the shampoo. And then my hair hung nice and straight the whole time.

I cond'd in the shower with Trees Stimulating. Then as I was rinsing I parted on the side and then from ear to ear. I rinsed well. Then I made 2 ponytails one in front going to the side and the other in back. I tucked the ends safely inside. I blotted only briefly and barely with a towel. I just laid it over my head and then put it around my neck.

I took down the ponytails and used a little 10-B as a leave-in, immed. making 2 buns. I brushed very gently after it dried, just the edges, then I re-bunned. It looked just fine. I really didn't need any other prod. tho' I did smooth a little Clean Gel at my hairline.

I did a hairstyle similar to Thinkie's style yesterday - a double bun only I had the one in front gong to one side. I fastened each bun with Fox hairsticks - balleryna sticks.

Today I shampoo'd with Lavatea Softn. I left the 5th lather on a little longer than usual b/c the phone rang! I rinsed very very thoroughly.

I rmbred how soft my hair was last week after the Lilith Rinse so I did that today. I did the Lilith Rinse in the sink after I washed. I repeated this b/c I wanted to be thorough. I immediately ponytail'd after that, using the towel only to blot drips.

Then I also used the Lilith Rinse as a leave-in. My hair was very flouffy and soft. This would prob be excellent to use if I ever roller set or blow dry.

I used several little blobs of Curl Cream today. I actually wanted my hair curly so I scrunched it in all over. Then I smoothed the curls back into a bun at the nape of my neck. It really looks very neat, an office look.

This is my last session with the Lavatea shampoo. I washed in the sink b/c I wanted to hot oil treat today in the steam. I rinsed carefully and turned on the steam shower.

I applied the Protein Oil Trtmt. I combed that thru and then fastened up with a claw clip. I enjoyed the steam for a bit and then I showered. I finally rinsed well. Immediately after rinsing I got a few drops of Bliss Tips Ends Oil on my fingertips and applied that to my soaking wet ends. I smoothed that in again from hairline to tips then squeezed out any excess water (there really wasn't any, the oil having seal in the moisture from the water.) I put the towel around my neck and then styled.

My hair was so shiny. I again parted on the side and bunned at the nape of my neck. I got a lotta compliments on that yesterday. I did use a little Curl Cream to smooth my edges and then a dab of Clean Gel to neaten my hairline.

Friday - The 19th

March 21 2004, 8:14 AM

I washed this morning with Superclear Shampoo. I got a nice lather going and I felt very clean. Then I did a second day of the Protein Oil Treatment. I applied while still in the shower then got out and turned on the steam. I combed thru and waited a bit then I rinsed well.

After I rinsed I immediately ponytailed then I put the towel on top of my head for just a few seconds to blot. I took down the ponytail and then applied 10-B as a leave-in, immediately re-ponytailing after that.

I got dressed then I used a brush just to neaten and then bunned at nape. It was fine even w/o any finishing products. (I was running a little behind this morning). I think that the ponytailing prob. gave me lotsa control.

Saturday - The 20th

March 21 2004, 8:18 AM

This is a deep condition day.

I washed with the Superclear shampoo in the sink so I could use the steam shower for deep cond. I turned on the steam then applied the Honeybee Intensive Treatment and then bagged and got in the shower. I finished shower covering bagged head with a warm towel. The cond. stayed on a total of 20 min. I rinsed in the sink and then cond. again with Stimulating Conditioner, combing thru gently.

I ponytailed immediately after that. I got some Bliss Butter melting into my fingertips and took down the ponytail to pinch the butter into my ends and edges. I bunned at nape.

I noticed as I was washing that my hair seems thicker, like there's more of it. But I don't esp. seem to see that my hair is getting so much longer this month. So I wonder if this is a thickening month perhaps, filling in.

Sunday - The 21st

March 21 2004, 8:21 AM

This is my 2nd day doing a deep condition.

I conditioned my hair overnite. And then washed this morning with Superclear. I washed in the sink again. I turned on the steam but applied the cond. in the shower this time. I showered then rinsed. Then I applied the Stimulating cond. And rinsed that carefully.

I ponytailed afterward. And applied a leave-in and ponytailed again. I noticed my hair is rather pouffy today. lol It's okay tho'. I bunned at nape and headbanded. I can't really call it a bad hair day, tho it's not quite like I planned. It's very flouffy soft tho'.

I'll sort this out and organize the tables later but I wanted to get it posted while I'm on the desktop...

Musings to Try...
try a rollerset
or a ponytails rollerset
try a braidout
try a Madeleine cameo bun
http://www.haarkram.e-something.de/start.html
find blowdryer for elongating
maybe electric comb
get a web mesh for bun http://www.vermontcountrystore.com

Progress
its been a pretty good month. I feel that I really grew a lot this winter. I've had mostly good hair days. I'm still surprised at how easily I brush smooth. I wd like 2go to the salon next month but not sure of the possibility. I wd like to do more with styles but still not sure I'm ready to wear my hair down just yet. I wd love to try a blowdry but I just don't trust anyone enuf to do it and I'm not talented enuf to manage it myself.

Nutrition
I'm still sticking to the Biotin and FSO at lunchtime and the MSM at bedtime. I really need to put a daily lemon back in my diet. I shd also try harder to drink more tea. I think I prob only did it right maybe 1 day this month. I keep it on my desk I just need to drink it. I shd also try to get a warming teapot so I don't have its cold as an excuse.

I've thot of switching to HF37 but I'm not sure of that. Besides the expense it doesn't contain much Biotin and no MSM which I can't imagine not including in my routine. I wd really like to see how much faster I wd grow esp since growth is guaranteed. Maybe I will plan that for April after charting growth for a quarter.

for health reasons I wd like to add Perfect Food but I really not sure I care to take a fistfull of vitamins everyday! So that with the HF37 wd be a bit much but since my vegs are so limited...

Styles
My current fave is the bun in some form which I dress up with a fake-arre or hairsticks. I have a number of tiny clips for more detail arnd the face. Get more headbands that are comfortable and safe. I will try a typically bedtime style of 2-4 bee butts, made fun and interesting with 2 sets of hairsticks. I also wanna get even more velvet scrunchies. Silk velvet are the best ones. I plan to try Madeleine's cinnamon bun. And to try 2 braids pinned atop my head.

Also I have layers in my hair it being longest in back so when I'm at waist I will thnk abt those. I'm very unsure of estimates at this point. not sure how much I'm going to cont to bother with measuring. on tye one hand I think that I'm better off thinking in terms of where it hits my body rather than actual inches...my hair is sooo curly I get a diff no.everytime and besides a watched pot....but on the other hand I think I wd like to have a list record....

ok when I first posted this I was a tangled matted MESS and thot I was down to 20 but then I had a salon visit and they combed me out and started me over. now I do Know that I did lose hair maybe an inch or more but have no idea where I was b4 that. but anyway here's my notes from Nov. 11/3 well yesterday was measure in tho I don't measure often. I haven't measured carefully but I'm relatively certain I lost a few inches...2 dryness and 2 tangles. I'm trying 2get myself back on track now but still so tired. the salon told me I can come anytikme I like 4 wash cond or just a comb out...whatvr I feel up to. kirsten shared a lovely website on EOs and herbs. and I spoke to lmlh. very excited abt tht too. so I'm not thnking too much in terms of inches these days. mayb tht will make me feel better.

ok i cant be sure bc i measured for the last time like the lsast few days of Nov. happily I discovrd my hair wasn't as short as I had thot but I definitely lost some due to tangles and matting. In Dec. I am well n2 my new haircare routine too. I signed up for a no measure journaling challenge (we don't measure til Jan.) and for a scalp massage challenge. I'm never sure how much I trly like measure bc I'm so curly I get a diff no.evrytime... but I do wanna spend more time on my journal. scalp massage is an important part of the routine so thts easy to keep. I will see what Jan. brings...

The December Scrolls

December 29 2003, 6:36 PM

ive been happy with myhair this month I think. this month I discovered how very much my hair loves water! when I went to the salon she said "your hair is good now!" I am very happy w/the texture whch is obv improvng. my worn edges are filling in as a matter of fact getting rather long tho still thinnish...

these last 7-10 days tho my hair has been so curly at times...it can be hard 2 even get it smooth. funny I compl abt tht tho when sme pay 80 bucks to have curly hair.lol but it has a shine to it tht I'm not sure it had b4 wo oil. I went crazy w the oil b4 (oct? nov?) for my crazy tangles and made thngs worse...got the crunchies. but this month I've had no oils actually and am quite happy. I just wish it wd grow faster faster...

I'm consdr poss of brushing my hair straight THen measuring...jusy not sure. many curlies measure soaking wet. my hair does go straight when its absolutely wet but it dries fast so I'm still not sure how accurate that is.

but again I'm thrilled w my new haircare routine and esp.my prod. I'm very anxious 2c it progress as the months go by.

I haven't been very good abt vitamins eithr. the begn of this month I was asnd taking HF37 (got as a gift) everyday and even choked down that awful MSM powder. but last couple wks not so good. I wanna get on the Garden of Life plan and stick to it. and take my oils again! big diff in my skin and hair. gotta do tht.

I've been plagued with terrible headaches this month. my breathing is btr tho. but my headaches go down my neck and thru my spine. ouch! VITAMINS! and my New Years resol tht I made back in the AUTUMN was 2 drink more moremore water! tht wd make a world of diff and I know it. gotta try flavoured water. and I also hear of a desktop unit tht will run cold or hot water 4u...love tea and tht counts right. I also want 2 again start eating one lemon a day. need the vit.c and it will also encourage the water.

The First of January: @24/+/1"

January 8 2004, 6:19 AM

The good news is I'm at 24 in. The sorta bad news is I really can't be sure how much I may have lost or gained as I'm never sure abt measuring bc I come up w/a diff number everytime. So I'm counting from 23 in. I went back and forth on deciding whether or not I truly want to be a measurer or not, but I do kinda wanna doc.to see if I'm really making any steady headway and how much of my ends I'm holding on to (or losing?) ea. month. So I found a ruler to measure my length. The tippy tips just at 12 in. mark by a hair.lol but I'm going to call it at 11 in. bc its only 2 strands that will prob come off if I keep pulling on them.lol I did a curly measurement too just to document shrinkage and they fall at abt 8 in. (sitting on my collarbone). So my total length the LHL way is 24 in.

Again I'm not sure if the gain is truly well documented bc I haven't been able to measure accurately these last 2 months and hadn't measured b4 that since likely arnd late spring/summer. But I'm counting from 23 in.so that's a gain of 1 in. I will be anxious 2c how much I actually gain ea.mo. and if I find or can doc. a pattern.

In Dec. I was well into my new prod. routine and I definitely very much see an improvement in my texture. Hair has gone thru crazy curly stages but in the last wk or so, its suddenly been rather smooth even silky. I can get it (almost!) silky straight w/just a very simple brushing.

I've been very bad abt vitamins this last month. At first I did very very well on HF37 along w/MSM and Silica at night, but strtd running low so didn't remain consistent. Arnd mid-mo. I had gotten MSM powder and did very well for a couple of wks taking a detox dose of abt 20g, but it tastes so abominably that I slowly didn't take it at all. I also got some digestive enzymes that must remain refrig therefore I nver rmbr them. Next time I wll splurge and get Primal Defense. I want to begin Perfect Food. I think I wd rather like to stick w/HF37 but won't be able to do this until Feb. I definitely plan to get back on Biotin 5 mg and cont' MSM. I will figure out the grams dosage later, but I'm guessing arnd 5g. But I want to stick w/these in particular until Feb.measure-in to doc. progress.

Nov.: MSM, Biotin, Silica.
Serious tangle and matting problem.
First began new prod./daily washing.

Dec.: HF37, MSM powder, Silica.
Tangles all better.
Massage and No-Measure/Journal Challenges.

Jan. Goal: enzymes, PF, Biotin, FSO, EPO, MSM, Silica.
Brush/horn comb routine.
Doc. measure-ins and notes.
(Note new meds: FS-15 mg.)

Feb. Plan: HF37, PF, PD, Biotin, FSO, EPO, MSM, Silica.
+½"? I don't wanna set too high.

The Scrolls of January

January 30 2004, 7:46 PM

Jan. I'm doing a smaller vitamin routine this month. ($ tight). Now I have only Biotin 5 mg., FSO 500, MSM-1500. my hair is fine (1 strand is almost translucent) but thick (my ponytail is almost 5 in.arnd). i'm again amazed at my texture at the edges above the ears and at nape. Again I can't rmbr if it was always like this or if its frm the Lml concentration on the outer edges the 1st mos. Will it all be that way soon? Or is it several textures that I never noticed b4. I surprise myself at how much I like it. I imagine what all these textures will look like hanging down my back. I had good growth in Dec. when pulled straight I c that BS isn't very far off tho again the curlies it doesn't really look like it. right now just left alone hair sits on my collarbone so my goal wd be for my hair 2b waist length dry and curly. One day I might set my hair. Still not sure if I wanna tackle a blow dry...tho I am curious. Mid-Jan. Noticed something when pretreating tonight. My texture in the back half of my head, my sides just above ears, and my worn but filling in edges are very silky ringlet-y The tip top part is somewhat coarser, bushy? Even kinky? Not necessarily a bad way bc its still all very soft but I wonder at this. I don't recall such a diff b4 and wndr if my texture is changing/improving slowly in certain areas or if I'm just paying more attn. and noticing what I never have b4. the ringlets are just beautiful tho, silky. And even the coarser area is very soft. Above ears its almost bone straight, in back I will get silky straight w/waves, in top hard to blve I can get it so smooth wo heat...just a brush. again I don't rmbr this b4. I do feel an improvement in my texture since changing prod and I wonder if its the back and sides that have been the most quickly receptive, most concentrated on. So I'm trying to take careful note of this to see if these changes occur in the top also or if I simply do indeed have 3 textures.. Late Jan. I'm noticing a slow but very improvement in my top texture. It seems more manageable and matches the back more. (it was so thick and even almost wooly for a whle there). but I'm still really enjoying my hair now. The patience comes/goes but its a journey with lots learned and kind frnds to hold hands along the way.

The First of February: @25/+/1"

February 2 2004, 6:26 AM

Feb. 1: 25 in.
I sorta measured last nite bc I just cdnt wait. The number I got I just didn't blve so I told myself I wd measure in the morn after I washed. I measured this morn and got the same thing! I woke up DH and said umm cd u do me a favor pls? Cd u umm...measure my hair. How long is it? I told him that I kept getting the same number and just wasn't sure it cd be right. He sighed and got up. Then stood behind me. 25 inches he said. Really? That's what I got. Are u sure??? Yes I am. You know what looking from just the back here, you're only maybe abt 6 in. from your waist. Really how do u know? Bc I'm looking at it. Are u sure its really really 25? I know how to measure, he grumbled and went back to bed.

But I saw him smiling as he walked away! and I've been beaming ever since!

Vitamins: Biotin 5 mg., FSO 500 mg., MSM-1500 (ran out of Silica early in month and didn't buy more).

Products: LML mo.#4 this incl daily washes, massage, horn combing, and leave-ins.

Charting:
Feb.: 25
Jan.: 24
Nov./Dec.: 23 (approx.)
didn't do anything specifically diff this month. I can't be sure of my measurements for Nov./Dec. but I did measure in Jan for sure so I can start charting in 2004 specifically noting seasonal changes, suppl., and care. I don't really expct to get this much growth on a reg basis but a chart will be helpful to look back on.

The First of March: @25¾/+/¾"

March 1 2004, 5:46 AM

Hubby measured and it looked 26 to him but I think it was just a wee bit off. He said well it is definitely more than ½. So I figured on ¾. its so hard to measure as a curly bc I tend to be a perfectionist and I know my measuring is not perfect. But I think it best to continue so I can chart average growth.

As for targeting I'm at bra strap length but not yet bra Clasp. Dry hair at its curliest is just shy of collarbone.

Here's my latest and current regimen... I’m also including within it my vitamin schedule (which often changes) as well as my plan for daily exercise (also variable).
My complete stash and product details are within this thread.

Regimen
I wash every morn because I have the most energy then and my hair seems to love water.

a.m. Pre-Shower
I have hot water and lemon slice w/my multi (if I’m taking it at that time) before getting out of bed. Then I sit up and drop my head to scalp massage as I always do in the morns starting at the back of neck ending w/sinuses. I do a ballet barre or at least port de bras as I can. When well I like to have a long walk.

Pre-Wash
I horn comb my scalp followed by a medicated scalp oil which is self-warming. I massage briskly for up to 5 min. before I horn comb once again. I add a little more oil to sensitive areas then there's a cooling spray that feels so fresh and clean.

Shampoo
I rinse 1st w/hot water scrubbing scalp as another massage. I select shampoo and separate my hair down the middle so I’m washing in sections, kind of 2 tails. I wash in 5 tiny lathers. I only need a dab of shampoo. I start by patting the ‘poo all over my head then squishing suds into ends. Next I scrub scalp. I kinda fold the ends upward a couple times to poo, which prevents end tangling. Final poo I wait 1 min. before rinsing each section thoroughly. Finally I turn my back to the shower and drop my head to rinse nape well. This prevents matting for me.

Conditioner
I apply ends up then I hit edges and twirly crown before massaging into scalp. I comb thru then detangle w/comb underwater. What I find helps a lot is if I go ahead and rinse in the shower, then ponytail or bun while still in the shower, barely blotting drips. I seem to have more control that way as my hair is curliest when dry, but straight when wet.

The conds. are all very rich so a little goes a long way. I usually use a very moisturizing oil-free protein cond. or a stimulating conditioner, which is my favorite.

Deep Cond.
I deep treat weekly using an oil cond. or the intensive trmt. + stim.cond. I do this 2 days in a row usually beginning by leaving it on overnight. I just wash in shower as usual, apply cond., then I rinse out in the sink after the shower.

If I want a special treat I apply the cond. then wrap my head in plastic followed by foil. It gets very warm. I leave it on for at least 20 min. This can even be left overnight. I would like to get a heatcap sometime but its not vital for me.

For my oil trmts. I usually get a wet towel and cover my head with it and sit in the steam for a bit.

Post-Wash
I only wrap in towel for a couple min. and have a calcium softchew. I detangle again if needed then comb smooth and retreat by applying a leave-in, usually a tsp. one of my cond. and/or a dab of oil.

Oiling
I tend to apply oils basically to seal in my cond. after using it as a leave-in. Or sometimes I will use the oil overnight. But my favorite way to use oil is immediately after rinsing out cond. While hair is still wet, and before even toweling dry, I get about 2-3 drops of oil and smooth into my dry-prone areas - usually my ends and edges - then I rub my hands together and smooth from hairline to tip of my ponytail and fasten. After my hair is dry I may apply 1 more drop to my ends and edges.

Midday
By lunchtime I prefer to have taken daily vitamins. When well I like to take a walk. Afterward I freshen up incl. cooling spray as necessary. I take the B-type vits.(incl. biotin) w/lunch.

p.m. Care
Often some time before dinner I spray with a conditioning waters spray and rearrange my hair if necessary. This can sometimes be used throughout the day as well but since I typically wear some form of a bun I’m usually fine unless I for some reason needed to re-style.

Bedtime Treatment
Before bed, I horn comb then I brush hair & scalp with a soft BBB just 4 times from side to side following each stroke w/my hand to prevent static. I usually tend to horn comb my scalp one more time after that just b/c I like it so much.

I wet ends to form a wick then overnight cond. my ends with a layer of water or two as necessary. I rub my hands together to gather excess and apply that to edges and smooth my hands to gather a ponytail. Sometimes I seal that with a drop of oil. I secure ponytail scrunchie behind my ear THEN braid/twist to one side letting the braid hang toward the front of me to sleep. I take MSM and Silica for a pleasant rest.

The nourishment to heal her

December 24 2003, 6:45 PM

i follow a Kosher diet and buy organic foods. No wheat bc I'm intolerant so I seek alt grains as I'm able. I have to also take Ensure w/protein up to 3 times a day as a supplement to meals. I try to drink 3 pots of tea during the day bc its the only way I can make myself drink enuf water. I'm allergic to most fruits but I love lemons and try to eat one everyday for the vit.C.

A spring of sweetness...

December 24 2003, 6:56 PM

just a thot i wanted to jot down to rmbr about bottled water. I wndr if they can be found wo added sugar or aspartame.

I made a 2004 goal to drink more water. I also will include herbal teas in that b/c I'm terrible about water. Horsetail is good I've heard and there's a hair tea recipe somewhere. Also there's a very good green and white tea that I have tried and like very much. If I can manage to drink 2-3 pots of tea a day I would be doing very well. Also to maybe drink hot water w/lemon. I've been slacking off on the vit. C I think

i finally made it yestrday after appts. it was a great visit tho it was rather a bad day. but at least I was able to relax and be taken care of for a bit.

they brush so much better than I do. they cdnt blve how very clean my scalp was and also how my hair has grown. it wasn't perfectly straight but it was more wavy than curly. I'd say it was about chest length! my hair was so matted for a whle that's prob why it seemed so very much shorter. so this was very good news. can't wait until measuring day!

i tried Louise Marie LongHairs today. shampoos conditioners sprays treats cremes...even detanglers, horn combs, and brushes...all complete. it came in the cutest baskets for beautiful display storage. I'm quite excited to try this at last. it started last night actually. it has a very detailed routine with its own products and very specific instructions. oddly I tend to be a person who likes being told exactly what to do, how, and with what so maybe this is just what I need. all the products with specific guidance all in one pkg. it cd b just what I'm looking for..

i conditioned overnight. this morning I treated my scalp..my usual massage routine...and then shampoo/condition. daily shampoo is recommended. I was very surprised at how easy comb out was. my hair is still not perfect by any means..i can tell its still sick...but I have a good feeling abt this. perhaps some is my excitement. I still need to get a salon visit in this weekend if possible. and then I will be even more comfortable beginning this routine with a fresh start.

The Lady of the Northstar whispered, 'This is thine...'

November 17 2003, 4:25 PM

I'm still so enjoying my hair products. its like I have a new toy! Everyting came in these pretty wicker baskets with lids and pockets inside to hold combs and toys. All incl. about 15 shampoos to rotate and about 10 cond plus oils, sprays, leave-ins, plus a comb set (2), a brush set (3), and 2 of the most beautiful horn combs I've ever seen, plus one more mini-horn comb in a little pouch that even fits in my tiny purse.

when I first investigated I worried over the expense. But after talking with her for several days I felt the price was worth spending. Turns out I got a 6-month supply of all this for only about $250 US! And that included shipping! That's less than I spent on a Wanakee kit and this lasts longer. And being somewhat of a product junkie, I probably Almost break-even...

She is very specific and exacting in her instructions. So it could be that its likely not for everyone but I'm a person who likes being told exactly what to do and how and with what and this kit provides every single thing. so it feels tailormade for people like me. We communicate via online diary.

I wash daily now...in the morns as she recommends which is good for me bc I have the most energy then. I always massage in the mornings anyway. So I do that after a cup of hot lemon water with a little exercise after that. Then, I brush my hair, then I horn comb my scalp then apply the medicated scalp oil that's kinda self-warming. I massage then I horn comb once again. I add a little more oil to sensitive areas then there's a cooling spray to use (very refreshing!) then I shampoo. After cond. I detangle underwater. The cond is very rich and a little goes a long way. Then I comb out and apply a leave-in.

if I want a special treat after apply cond. I wrap my head in plastic then foil for a deep treatment.

before bed I brush then pretreat with a little cond., mostly ends edges and my hungry roots. Then I braid to one side and let the braid hang in front of me. I've heard that's good for some reason when doing an overnight treatment. And I dream long hair dreams!

Then dawn arrived...and look! A Handsome Prince

here im going to put the story of this morning's CWC with the help from my real life handsome prince. (smile) last night I slept with my hair in a braid from Leia's post to help me. it took a little more time but is certainly a better idea than attempting to bun..makes for a bird nest in the morn. I got up and DH massaged my scalp neck and shoulders...then he spent 2 hrs detangling. my hair is very fine but surprisingly thick and sooo curly.. some of the shorter parts I've lost tend to corkscrew around the longer parts...tangles! but he got them all..1 section at a time aftr which I immed braided. thanks Fox for this advice and to Phoebe for trying it and sharing her exp. i discovered a secret this morning inspired by Martine. I was almost out of conditioner and worried there wouldn't be enough to treat my ends. and then I looked down at my cluttered vanity and had a thot. those little cases of beauty treats dept. store counter...eye cream night creme etc...i used the day cream to coat my ends! then I CWC'd. I washed a section at a time. after which I used a comb and the water to detangle. I treated one section at a time as I detangled and smoothed with a gel creme as advised by Roni. I got out and then wicked my ends again with the day creme. as I looked at all the length I had lost and my thin and yes some worn of edges I picked up the intensive night trtmt. just a few drops to my edges and then at nape. my ends are so silky...theyve been quite dry which doesn't help my knotting problem. I fretted a little bc due to braiding b4 I washed it was a little hard to undo them. but DH was patient and dusted my ends aftrward..smethng I've never done. I rebraided and couldn't wait to share it all! thanks everyone!

I don't have any suggestions but glad to have ya back

Thanks Flaxen:
How Nice to See You. I do have one suggestion. A while ago there was a product discussed that helped several people with matting problems. Check out this website, click on products and then detangler. http://www.cowboymagic.com/ Yes, it is a product that can be used on horses or humans, LOL! Then, here's a website that sells it, and one of the sizes is even on sale.shop.store.yahoo.com/animalworldnetwork/cowmagdetand.html

Thanks Martine:
I think it's likely there's a connection between your hair's dryness and the matting/tangling you're having. If there's a way you can cleanse your hair more often, every day or every second day for example, you might find that's one thing that helps with dryness and makes hair stronger because of the moisture it's retaining from having been soaked & conditioned. As for removing tangles, I find the best tool for me is a soft bbb. Oil or silicone serums/sprays can also be helpful applied directly on the problem area (or bbb).

Thanks Eliza Jane:
Take one hair strand at a time when you encounter a tangle mass. Gently work each strand loose from the mass with your fingers. This will take an enormous amount of patience and time. My hair gets matted if I don't finger comb it in a few days' time. I sit down somewhere comfortable, and start finger combing it and when I hit a snag, tangle or whatever, I take one hair out of the mass at a time, but do it v ery gently or you will snap your hair.If you loose patience with the mess, just leave it, walk away from it and come back to it later. Whatever you do, don't yank your comb through the mass. Glad you are back with us!

Thanks Lucy:
What EJ said is so true.. it will take a LOT of patience and time to untangle, but it WILL be worth it. I remember my parents having to do this many a time when I was younger and my hair would regularly tangle. Once you have untangled a section (divide it into sections, it is easier to tackle smaller parts than your whole head, and you will get a bigger sense of achievement this way) make sure you rehydrate it, to prevent it tangling again. You could apply some oil and smooth it through. It sounds like your hair could be quite porous at the moment, so it will hopefully drink up all the oil and become smoother.
As for your ends.. a small dusting may be all you need to sharpen them up. But tackle one goal at a time. We are here for you!

Thanks Alya:
Oh yes, be patient and pick it apart gently.

Thanks Fox:
You might want to try detangling with conditioner on. You could do this in the bath and using a wide tooth comb, gently begin to comb out with your freshly conditioned hair. I suggest washing, conditioning, then conditioning again, leaving the conditioner on, then gently combing. You can also rinse under the shower spary and use the shower water as a helper.. to help detangle while you gently comb. As Martine said, more frequent washes or even rinses with conditioner, should help. If you don't feel up to this, perhaps someone can help you do this regularly. So glad to see you back!

Thanks Roni:
You've been given great advice.I don't know if you're familiar with the Harriet Carter company, but they sell a type of hairnet that helps a loved one to wash your hair when you cannot, and it can be done in the sink,it's not that expensive, either.Maybe,Sally's or another store may carry this sort of thing, too, but it looks like a God-send!!

Thanks Betty:
Have I got the products for you! Ion brand from Sally's It is a no cone product, yep I have been thinking it was for way over a year Well, it worked so well I thought it had to have cones LOLOLOL The Reconstruction Treatment really gets the tangles out http://www.sallybeauty.com/shop/product.asp?pf%5Fid=302217&dept%5Fid=1215 A little goes a long way too. You can purchase a sample pack for about a $1. I have color treated hair and it's prone to tangel anyway. This stuff is awesome!! BTW, it's so nice to see you. I hope you are doing well. I will be keeping you in my thoughts. Angel Hugs and Love

Snarls Upon Which She Stumbled

November 6 2003, 9:30 AM

In response to my Autumn Leaves and Extra Special Dosage Instructions…

Thanks Roni:
Oh balleryna!! that was beautiful! Okay, with the detangling thing, you said it de-tangles in the shower? You can still use that Proclaim Curl Activator gel to put on it when you get done rinsing with ice-cold water. Then, I detangle again, and comb my hair back into a bun or ponytail and it's sleek and smooth. It stays very hydrated, no crunchiness, or flaking, it's a clear gel, and costs only $2.99 for an 32 ounce tub at Sally's, and always goes on sale for $1.99! Don't stress yourself out too much, dear, just take one day at a time, and God bless!!!

Thanks Martine:
“EXTRA Special Dose.” I agree, that WAS very special. I think I might need to incorporate some of the ingredients into my own regimen. Hugs balleryna

Thanks Fox:
I’m sorry you’re having such trouble with tangling. I am glad you are back on the boards though! Please don't get discouraged. Like the falling autumn leaves, this season in your hair will pass as well. Since you said you can detangle, but that it later tangles, how about braiding your hair once it is smooth and tangle free. This should keep from tangling more. If you don't like to braid, you can wrap a few satin scrunchies down the length. Or... wear your hair up in a bun. This will protect your ends and serve as a "tangle free zone." You also might want to try misting your hair with water every so often to help keep static away. You can even add a tiny bit of your conditioner into your water for a "leave-in" type of conditioner. A humidifier would help to keep static down as well. Keep us updated!

Thanks Leia:
Let’s see if I can help you… I think you should go ahead and return for a deep treatment at the salon. Also, are your ends dry? Sometimes dryness is what causes the tangles (but in other cases, hair is just tangly!!). I have a few suggestions that might (hopefully) help! After you wash and detangle (you should try detangling with conditioner on, and then after rinsing it out), maybe you could try soaking your hair in distilled water and then detangling again. This makes your hair soft... I won't recommend ACV as I personally don't like it, but others have had success with it. Also, my hair can get a bit hard to detangle in buns, but braids always keep it in shape. I sleep with a braid and in the morning it is a breeze to detangle. Perhaps you could try french braiding/normal braiding your damp hair to keep in the moisture and also keep it from tangling? (I say french braiding because that seems to help even more with the tangles. Also, if your hair is easier to detangle when wet this will work, otherwise you could wait for it to dry before detangling and braiding). I have about an inch of dry ends at the moment, but am trying to reach my first goal of 30" before I do any trimming. Because of this, I take down my hairstyle often throughout the day and mist it with distilled water. This makes it really soft. If this would help you, then maybe you can try this and it'll make it easier to detangle. I mist before bunning for the day and before braiding for the night, and then any other time in between that I might need it . I hope I've helped you some! Your curls must be beautiful and I wish you luck in your detangling!

More from Fox:
So sorry to hear your tangles are back in a bad way! Do you think you could braid your hair into sections, then wash one section at a time, then rebraid the first section before moving on to the next? You could also try leaving a conditioner in your hair and detangling then. You might not "need" to rinse it out. It wouldn't hurt to try. Do go back to the salon, and see if she can give you any tips for doing it on your own at home. I hope you can find a good solution to this!

Thanks Phoebe:
It always seems like it takes me forever to get my hair untangled after I wash it, and no matter how careful I am that I have some breakage. Well, yesterday morning I tried something new and it worked really well. 1) Put hair in two or more regular braids - do not make very tight braids. Water should be able to penetrate them. Put in hair friendly elastics at the ends. 2) Step into the shower and wet hair. 3) Apply your conditioner to the braids. 4) Then take your shampoo and gently wash your scalp. 5) Rinse everything out, hold up the braids and let the water pass through the hair. 6) Condition the scalp area - if your hair is dry you can put more conditioner on the braids. 7) Rinse again. 8) Use a towel to gently squeeze the braids in to remove excess moisture. Do not twist! Then wrap hair as usual in the towel to towel dry. Do not take the braids out yet, though, just let them sit in the towel. 9) Then when ready, take one of the braids, remove elastic and begin to gently comb out starting at the bottom. Unbraid as you go up and comb out. 10) Style as desired. This worked really well on my curly - tangle prone hair. I didn't have any breakage at all, and best of all I was able to enjoy freshly washed hair without all the pain of having to detangle.

oh my what a horrible mess my autumn leaves are in. but she assured she that she would assist. she clucked her tongue several times that I had not come to see her sooner. but she sat me down for an hour and detangled it all very very gently with her fingers. she used several sprays of detangler along the way but no oil. but it didn't hurt! at all. not even a little. she examined me for splits and cut them individually. I thnk I did lose some length if all this bird nest. she parted me hair into about five sections. detangled again with her fingers each section. brushed the section. braided the section secure with a tiny velvet scrunchie. then went to the next section. after all braided she took me to the shampoo bowl. she shampooed first only my scalp with a eucalyptus shampoo. my scalp felt so itchy and I felt it slowly being released. she didn't unbraid my hair at all. she just washed twice and rinsed in cool water. she patted me dry and sat me under the dryer. to be cont'd... *~~~Balleryna~~~*

Autumn Leaves

That's the perfect name for my return b/c that's exactly what my hair feels like! Things haven't been going well medically and I've been away for over 4 months I think.! Wow.

Hubby usually tried to keep up on the massages. He massaged my hair every night with the Scarborough Faire Hair Oil (rosemary/thyme/sage). I was too tired to do it myself tho' I did try to give my edges lots of extra attention. But I've lost some of my edges completely. I can tell. I'm sure I don't have any growth. It's probably stayed the same. or shudder. I may have even lost a bit of length from the ends.

Most of all, my hair is like straw! And my main worry is my hair is so TANGLED. It's like dreads or something. Kind of wrapped around tangly. And so full of static electricity I could swear I see sparks when I'm trying to finger comb it. It usually gets okay when I'm in the shower and detangling while I condition with my fingers. But it doesn't help. It's like 5 min. later it's all tangled again. This is very odd.

Fox suggested that I might try to lay off the oil a bit since that can make the hair a little crunchy. Maybe switch up conditioners.

Funny that I'm worried about my hair at a time like this... but I am....

COND. SUGGESTIONS:

Cowboy Magic Detangling

EXTRA SPECIAL DOSAGE INSTRUCTIONS:
A tsp. of extra Washing...a little more often

The salon visit was $181.00. I had a great time and enjoyed it very much. I'm going bare bones basic this month. I hope to tell myself to keep brutally honest notes. Perhaps I'll stick to the same style for the 3-month comparison after I get my products. I'm still at 23" but my hair does seem thicker. At the salon visit there seemed to still be a bit of build-up at the edges so I need to tell myself to be sure not to skip the edges in ACV rinses. ROUTINE I do the CO wash for now and so far so good! I've heard some say they someimtes stick in a CWC every week or so but with careful ACV I may do ok. I tried Suave and it was ok but I got the St. Ives on sale and get a great lather out of their conditioner with my CO so I'll use that for a bit. I can always switch to White Rain if I run out of St. Ives before this exp. is up. I want to do MM excl. and take notes then Ouidad excl. with notes and then MM + Ouidad DT. LEAVE-INS I alternate I23 and JO+rosemary for now. But I ordere

Mid-May Notes 5-15-03

May 19 2003, 7:19 AM

ROUTINE
CO Wash 2-3 times a week
St. Ives Extra Shine conditioner
Leave In - alt. Jojoba Oil + rosemary/sage/thyme and Infusium 23

CONDITION OF HAIR
Very very shiny all the way down to the tips of the braid or ponytail! And feels silky to touch, esp at scalp/root.

CONCERNS
A little itchy in crown of head. Still using AV rinses but have added rosemary to scalp early evening and that helps. Maybe I'm getting lots of growth this month!

DIARY
This month I've been sticking with conditioner-only washes. It's been working very well for me and I use TONS of conditioner but I've heard that you should use a lot. My hair is unbelievably shiny! I've never known my hair to be as shiny as this. Not sure if it's the CO or if it's the JO.

My scalp in the tip-top crown of my head has been itchy this month, however. I've been doing the AV rinses as usual. It hasn't really become annoying or tiresome but I just don't recall having this problem since I added AV rinses to my routine. So I've been pretty much adding JO+rosemary and sometimes even rosemary straight to that area in the early evenings.

Notes from Weekend

May 19 2003, 8:01 AM

ROUTINE
CO wash 2-3 times/weekly

VITAMINS
UNH, MSM, Biotin, Silica, EPO, FSO

PRODUCTS
CO: St. Ives Extra Shine cond.
Leave-In: Infusium 23/Bindi Oil (alternate)

TREATMENTS:
Pre-Wash: Bindi Oil
Scalp: Sage/Rosemary/Thyme
Special: Shirodhara Therapy

SATURDAY -
Did a hot oil treatment Sat. morning with new bindi oil. It felt wonderful. I poured the bindi oil in an old WGO container (great cap on those bottles!) and ran under hot water for a minute or so. The warm oil felt wonderful on my scalp and I satured my scalp with it. About mid-day I poured in a little more onto my ends. My hair LOVES oil and really soaked it up relatively quickly.

That evening I glopped on the conditioner. I used Manes/Tail conditioner b/c I was almost out of St. Ives Extra Shine already and wanted to use it for the final condition. I could feel it kinda mixing in with the oil. It felt very nice as I stroked my scalp. I showered. And rinse rinse rinse. Then I poured on more conditioner (the St. Ives this time). I worked it down to my ends and then did the rinse routine. I applied the last bits of St. Ives to hair from my ears down and then poured on the ACV. I stroked my scalp for a bit again. And rinsed away with cool water. I wrapped my hair in a towel.

I parted my hair into 4 sections and applied the new scalp oil I made. It smelled kinda medicinal but was really very soothing since I've been having that itchy crown lately for some reason. No more itchies.

My hair was so shiny all the way to the ends and felt very silky to the touch, esp. at the root, edges and nape. Ah!

SUNDAY -
I poured on the I23 a.m. and gathered my braided hair in a double-wrapped ponytail.

Still no more itchies. Not sure what the problem was last week, if it was the scalp oil that resolved it, or if I perhaps just hadn't rinsed very well the last time I CO'd!

MONDAY a.m. -
Applied bindi oil before shower as leave-in for the day. Unbelievably silky!

This is really a very very simple routine that I'm trying this month. It's so simple and easy I almost hate the thought of parting from it. But I do wanna test around and see which I like best. I love trying new things and if anything even when I find my "dream routine" I could even decide to switch up now and then (I've heard that's a good idea sometimes) and just for fun.

A-Scrub...Dab...Dub (Last Night's Wash)

I did a CO wash again last night with an ACV rinse. St. Ives Extra Shine Cond. was on sale this week so I bought that. It's with Raspberry and Jojoba Oil. I really liked it a lot. And I actually got a bit of lather out of this one. My hair was very shiny and felt good. So I didn't need a leave-in this morning. I used a much weaker ACV rinse than I normally do. I often pour on the ACV almost-straight and then rinse and rinse and rinse. But last night I was actually almost outta ACV so I added water to the gallon bottle, shaken well, then poured it on. My scalp still felt great but there wasn't the strong smell that I worried so much about and rinse to death. Again my hair seemed to really hold water so I'm again wondering if CO washes make me hold water or if it's just a coincidence, or is my hair actually getting thicker? I got no growth this month but my hair does seem fuller, thicker, so I'm trying not to feel sad about that. So maybe that's why my hair takes longer to dry as well..

I had a nice salon visit! Again my goal is to become a lot more independent and to do my own hair but a salon visit is usually a lot of fun. I had a shampoo and a deep conditioner. She commented on how clean and healthy is my hair and scalp! It's nice sometimes to be able to lay back and let someone else do your hair and the neck, shoulder and hand massage is always wonderful too! I didn't get foot reflexology this time around. I had a Shirodhara treatment which is always just heavenly. This is a procedure when a warm stream of oil is poured in the center of the forehead and is followed by a scalp massage. Ahhh! Thanks Cowgal:

S/A/M/B
1 tablespoon each of Amla, Marshmallow, Bhringaraj, and 2 tablespoons of shikakai. 1/2 cup of hot water (or 1 cup if you want it more liquidy).

You have to rinse rinse rinse.... with cold water preferably, adding conditioner helps if you want to do that while you're rinsing it out.

They all come from www.fromnaturewithlove.com but the bhringaraj is from www.internatural.com

ACV Rinses

April 25 2003, 10:23 AM

Some use strong scented herbs - rosemary, rosepetals, lavender, etc., (some crush some don't). Heat up the vinegar (I use white vinegar as well as KT) to just before boiling so the heat from the vinegar will help it diffuse.

Some use white vinegar instead tho' for brunettes ACV is probably best.

You can try using Japanese rice vinegar.

Thanks Fox:

If you are using dried herbs, you don't need to crush them. If you are using fresh herbs, then crushing will help to break the cell wall and release all the good things inside.

I used herbs in my vinegar rinses quite awhile, but I have found it is much more easy to use essential oils. Peppermint is one that really effects the scent of your mixture. Be sure to shake well before pouring out any of your vinegar rinse to dilute or you'll get all your EO's at once!

I add the following to my litre bottle of vinegar mix: I use about 10-15 drops each.

Tea Tree
Lavender
Clary Sage
Peppermint
Cedarwood
Rosemary
Peppermint

You will find the scent to be totally different.

I think that Peppermint helps to stimulate blood flow in the scalp, so that's always a good thing.
I also saved this info from: http://www.kevala.co.uk/aromatherapy/peppermint.cfm

Peppermint has a long tradition of medicinal use. In 1879 the British Medical Journal reported the reliving influence of menthol upon headaches and neuralgia.

Peppermint Oil is both soothing and energising. The distinctive 'coolness' of the oil stimulates the body and mind.

Peppermint invigorates, revitalizes, refreshes and also brings mental clarity. Blending well with other essential oils peppermint creates excellent blends for massage. Used in a cool bath Peppermint is an ideal energiser, yet a soothing bath of peppermint will help you unwind and relax at the end of the day.

I also had this, but not the webaddress saved: http://www.kevala.co.uk/aromatherapy/peppermint.cfm

Peppermint has been used in Eastern and Western medicine for a variety of complaints, including indigestion, nausea, sore throat, headaches, toothaches and more. Should not be used during pregnancy.

Hope that helps! Do DILUTE! It will help soooo much! By the way, that rice vinegar makes a wonderful Chinese Cabbage Salad! It is less potent of a smell and is sweet, so it might also add a moisture to the hair like honey does.

Scarborough Faire Scalp Oil

May 19 2003, 7:49 AM

Sage and Rosemary are wonderful for hair and scalp, known for increasing shine and encouraging growth.

This sounded like fun because I heard a folk song that sounded similar. (parsley, sage, rosemary, and thyme... once she was a true love of mine...)
Didn't think parsley would do well in hair (! - lol) but these sounded good. And I have specifically heard that rosemary is very very good and thyme is quite the stimulator as well.

Scarborough Faire Scalp Oil
11 drops Sage
8 drops Rosemary
6 drops Thyme

Divide hair in 4 sections. Pour drops in fingertips and massage in. Or use eye dropper and squeeze very lightly directly onto 4 sections. And use fingertips to work in parts.

Ye Order of Dosha - Air Then Fire, and Water Then Earth

Air, Fire, Water and then Earth Thanks again Dulci: I remembered that Aristotle's Alchemical Theory was outlined in some old textbooks I kept (I minored in philosophy) and looked them up when Anne posted earlier about what order to use the MM shampoos. Basically, the theory is that, "Air feeds fire, fire dies by water, water is contained by earth, and earth creates the air. The cycle is meant to show the interconnection of all things, and the cycle of birth, life, change and death."

More info on Ayurveda

April 25 2003, 9:13 AM

Thanks Dulci:
they've got 5 elements They've got Air, Fire, Water, Earth, and "Ether".....where does that last one play in? (ether is the conditioners)

I noticed that Fifth Element too when I was looking at the MM page yesterday. And then I googled around a bit and discovered that Aristotle later added a Fifth Element, "Ether which was a perfect substance and what the heavenly bodies are composed of."

(Originally I had looked up Aristotle's Alchemical theory for Anne from my Philosophy 101 book. Apparently it didn't go into enough depth LOL.)

The Ayurvedic tradition also uses Five Elements. From my copy of Ayurveda, the Science of Self-Healing, by Dr. Vasant Lad:

...in the beginning the world existed in an unmanifested state of consciousness. From that state...the suble vibrations of the cosmic soundless sound aum manifested. From that vibration there first appeared the Ether element. This ethereal element then began to move: its movements created the Air...The movement of Ether also produced friction, and...heat was generated...and the Fire element manifested.

...Through the heat of the Fire, certain ethereal elements dissolved and liquified, manifesting the Water element, and then solidified to form the molecules of Earth. In this way, Ether manifested into the four elements of Air, Fire, Water and Earth."

So they are in the same order as Aristotle put them. The way I figure it, is the four shampoos are supposed to be used in a certain order so that the detox can proceed in an orderly fashion. The Conditioners, the "Ether" element, are used everyday, kind of like how Ether is all around, inbetween.

Or it could all be just a new-age gimmick LOL. But using them in a certain order is harmless, yes? And kinda fun

A little more: http://www.friesian.com/elements.htm

And on Aristotle: http://www.geocities.com/CapeCanaveral/7997/aristot.htm

All substances were combinations of elements and elemental qualities. The elements are: fire, water, earth, and air. (Aristotle added later another "element" - Ether which was a perfect substance an what the heavenly bodies are composed of) The qualities are: hot, cold, wet, dry. The qualities define the character of "elements". Fire was seen as ideal mixture of hotness & dryness. One element could be changed into another like mixing solutions. Combustion and other chemical reactions were considered a type of motion. Aristotle's elements differed from alchemical elements. He believed that Asenic was actually a kind of sulfer, and it was used in his time to harden copper. Aristotle along with other Greek Philosophers questioned whether matter was composed of divisble or indivisible particles. To Aristotle, all material was made of atoms with the exception of the Prime Mover(God). He also argues that there would be no motion at all unless there is first a force of movement that is itself unmoved, namely God.

Bindi Oil

May 19 2003, 10:26 AM

Ingredients: Sweet Almond Oil, brahmi, shatavari, ashwagandha, cinnamon, sage, rosemary, basil, and rose.

Thanks Fox:
The oil you mentioned sounds like an Ayurvedic based oil. It stems from India, and uses Indian herbs. I will type this in here and also on the boards.

*Ashwagandha (Withania somnifera) - This Ayurvedic herb is also known as Indian ginseng and winter cherry. It's very important in Ayurvedic medine. It rejuvenates and energizes the nerveous system. Helps prevent stress related depletion of vitamin C and cortisol. Increases physical endurance and improves sexual function. Has an inflammatory and anti-aging effects. In laboratory studies, has modulatated and stimulated immune function.

**Brahmi (Bacopa monniera, herpestis m)Brahmi is a popular Indian Ayurvedic herb. Brahmi is also one of the most frequently used herbs in Japanese medicine. In both cases, it is used primarily as a nerve tonic, to treat insomnia and nervous tension, with secondary applications as a diuretic.

Brahmi contains saponins (dammarane type glycosides called bacosides) yielding ebelin lactone on acid hydrolysis. Saponins of similar character occur in Zizphus jujuba, jujuba fruit, and have been shown by Chinese physicians to strengthen the nervous system, and decrease insomnia. Jujuba and bacopa are both used for nearly the same purposes, and their chemistry turns out to be nearly identical also.

Brahmi also has marked hypotensive and diuretic properties. Brahmi has some anti-cancer properties against Walker 256 in the rat.

Brahmi facilitates the acquisition, consolidation and retention of learned tasks in rats. Acquired responses involved shock-motivated brightness-discrimination tasks (negative reinforcement), active conditioned avoidance responses, and conditioned taste aversions (positive reinforcement).

In this research it was also determined bacopa has no central depressant or stimulant action. The nervous system properties of bacopi appear, therefore, to be receiving ongoing validation in basic research.

Brahmi, insofar as its diuretic action increases the renal excretion of sodium and chloride, may potentiate the hyperglycemic and hyperuremic effects of glucose elevating agents.

Brahmi should not be used with methotrimeprazine, a potent CNS depressant analgesic.

The use of diuretics may require dosage adjustments of antidiabetic drugs.

Brahmi possess no known side effects or toxicity at normal doses.

***Cinnamon (Cinnamomum zeylanicum) is a warming herb. It's in my herbal "immune formula" tea I like to drink when I'm not feeling well. Historically it's been used as an effective anti-bacterial, antispasmodic, anti-ulcer, choleretic, sedative, hypothermic, antifungal, antiviral, antipyretic, lipolytic, antiseptic, anesthetic, anodyne, and cytotoxic properties.

+Shatavari is a rejuvenating herb that cools the body and strengthens and nourishes the tissues. It may be taken by both women and men to remove excess vata and pitta from the system and to support the proper function of the reproductive organs. Traditionally used to stimulate the production of female hormones, Shatavari may be translated as "100 spouses," implying its ability to increase fertility and vitality. It encourages the production of milk in lactating mothers, and is also useful during menopause and for women who have had hysterectomies. Shatavari serves to build immunity, improve the intellect, stimulate digestion, and enhance strength and energy. It helps remove toxins from the blood and supports the proper function of the liver. Shatavari also acts to soothe, protect and nurture inflamed membranes of the lungs, stomach, kidneys and reproductive organs.

++ Basil(Ocimum basilicum)

The King of Plants, like rosemary, mint, and marjoram, basil belongs to the Labiatae family. It has large, oblong, smooth leaves and can reach 60 centimeters in height. Its name comes from the Greek word basilikon, which means "royal". That goes to show how much the Ancients admired basil! Basil was used by the Egyptians to embalm the dead, was associated with mourning among the Greeks, and hate among the Romans! In the Middle Ages, it was used to treat an assortment of ailments like the common cold, plantar warts, even depression. In fact, basil does have sedative and diuretic properties, and has proven effective as an antidote for insomnia and migraines. Basil grows best in warm regions. The main basil-producing countries are Spain, Italy, France, Egypt, and Mexico.

Most of the information was found at the sources below and you can even read more by using the links.

Over all it sounds like a very soothing, relaxing oil!

Wondrous Waterfalls

It was shampoo night last night. My hair was fuzzy and frizzy and needs to be re-done, but I want it clean, clean clean. I decided to do a Suave CO with ACV rinse. I'm looking forward to the salon visit on Sat. And my scalp is very comfortable thanks to the constant ACV rinses (best thing I ever did!) CO Wash Experience I tried this before but this time I did it right and it worked very well. Slopped on about 1/4 bottle of Suave Balsam cond. and worked it in, I didn't really get a lather but I did feel a creamy clean as I stroked my scalp. I let it sit a bit as I showered. Rinsed away. And did it again. Rinse rinse rinse and then rinse and rinse again. I poured on the ACV rinse. And then I took an almost empty bottle of cond., filled it to the top with water and poured it on my ends from the ears down and smoothed my edges with it also. I rinsed wellin cool water. It felt silky with baby soft edges. I enjoyed this and will keep it up until I order new products for comparison. I

CO washing - short directions

April 25 2003, 8:32 AM

Buy a cheap conditioner. White rain seems to work the best for most people who have posted here. Wet hair. Work a lot of conditioner through your hair. Keep applying and working through until all of your hair feels slippery and covered with conditioner. Let is sit while you wash everything else. Add a little water to hair. Work through (conditioner will lather ever so slightly). Rinse out conditioner (very well).

Those who have had bad results with CO washes, and finally solve the problem usually say the problem was one of the following:
-they didn't use enough condioner
-they didn't rinse it out well enough

CO washing - long directions

April 25 2003, 8:32 AM

DETAILED INSTRUCTIONS FOR CO WASHING, a la LisaJaney

I get in the shower, wetting my hair and then wash my face. (it's this crazy notion I have, that if my face is unwashed, the forehead oils will re-dirty my clean hair. Thus, I always wash my face first. Compulsion? Who's to say?) Anyhow, once my face is clean, I rewet my hair and then get out the big jug of conditioner. I personally find that if I use a heavy or moisturizing conditioner, it leaves my hair heavy and it seems to get greasy-looking faster. For that reason, I use a cheap one: White Rain Original/Classics conditioner, the Extra Body kind. Usually, it costs about a buck for a 15-oz bottle; sometimes you can luck out and get a BONUS size for the same dollar. That helps, considering I use about 1/3 cup of the stuff per 'wash'!!
OK, so now my hair is wet, and I've got the mondo jug of conditioner in my hand. I put as much conditioner as my hand can hold, then apply that to the top of my head, working it down onto the scalp. Then I reload (another big handful) and apply that to the backside of my head, and work it into the crown (the place where it gets greasy) and down the ends. Sometimes I need just a little more conditioner to do the ends; sometimes not. At any rate, I work that all into my scalp, using stroking (finger-combing) motions, sometimes a little zig-zaggy movements as I stroke my scalp. You will know you have enough conditioner applied when your hair feels slick all the way to the scalp. At first, the hair seems to DRINK the conditioner, and there will be dry-feeling places; when you have enough, the whole mass of hair is slippery and slick. This won't quite make a lather, but it will start to feel a little lathery. That's good. Then forget about your head and move on to the rest of your shower. Wash, shave, whatever. Take a good 5 minutes or even longer if you've got the time (and the hot water!). Let your head just soak in that conditioner. There are surfactants that are working to loosen and lift dirt.
When the rest of my shower is complete, I return to the hair. I stick my head under the shower for a split-second, getting a few tablespoons of water on my head. Now that conditioner WILL lather for me. Not a great lather, but a thin, watery lather. I work it into my scalp again, finger-combing et al, until I get a bit of a lather. My hair will begin to really FEEL clean; you will see what I mean. Then begin rinsing. And rinse and rinse and rinse some more. And at last, when you think you've got it all (it takes a LOT of rinsing), rinse another full minute. THe only thing that will leave my hair greasy-looking after a conditioner-wash is one of the following:
1 - not using ENOUGH conditioner (I slather it on)
2 - not rinsing enough, or
3 - using a too-heavy conditioner (I told our Tori that I use "a cheap, crap-conditioner for this", but that's not really nice; it's an inexpensive, LIGHT conditioner. It's just right. I tried the White Rain Passion Flower conditioner - smells GREAT - but since it was a moisturizing one, it was too heavy and didn't work right)
So: rinse rinse RINSE! After I've rinsed it out, I like to then use a small dollop of Mastey Frehair, as a creme rinse, then rinse that out. The FreHair bottle says: "Eliminates Static, Detangles, Tames Flyaways". I like that. You don't need to let that set on your hair for more than a moment before you rinse it out. Then, I follow it all up with a half gallon of cold, soft water over my head. That closes the cuticle (and makes me murmur nasty things under my breath) but it sure makes my hair shiny. You can even add a little vinegar to that cold final rinse. Just 1/4 cup of vinegar is fine. This last time, I had put a small bit (maybe a tablespoon) of Aussie 3-Minute Conditioner into my cold final-rinse water: Talk about SOFT!!!! I used it as a leave-in, and really like it. THen, of course, I do a tiny bit of Monoi oil on my ends while they are still damp.
I do this every other day, or every third day. I like to wash my hair on Mon, Wed and Sat. On about the 1st and 15th of the month, I use shampoo and conditioner. One of those times is Finesse Moisturizing shampoo and conditioner (love that stuff) or Clairol Herbal Essences Fruit Fusion, Revitalizing (GREAT stuff! Satin-y hair with that!) and the other time in the month is Suave Daily Clarifying Shampoo to remove any buildup, with Mastey's FreHair creme rinse as a conditioner because it's light and will NEVER build up because it contains no oils or waxes. That stuff is GREAT. It can be hard to find, but I saw it at Fred Meyer's last night....Wahoo!!!
That's what I do. I use vinegar in my final-rinse probably once a week, to help with any buildup that may occur in between my 1st-and-15th-of-the-month shampoos. I soaked rosemary sprigs (from my garden) in vinegar for a few weeks to make Rosemary Vinegar - good for adding shine to dark hair. My ends have never felt SO good. They are moist and soft and just like the hair at my scalp with this new treatment. I highly recommend it.
Good luck, happy growing! Let me know if I missed anything you needed to know. I believe it will remove monoi; pay attention to those ends as you 'wash', just as you would with the scalp-oils, and I am sure you will be fine.

CWC Directions from Martine

November 6 2003, 8:37 AM

Thanks Martine!

CWC means "Condition, Wash Condition"
by Martine, originally written March 16, 2002

This is a method I came up to help my hair grow longer since long hair has
different needs than shorter hair:

The CWC Method

1. Wet hair, apply conditioner allover except scalp unless dry
2. Apply shampoo to scalp and head area with conditioner still on the hair
length
3. Rinse shampoo and conditioner out at the same time
4. Condition a final time
5. Rinse

Practically, you can apply the conditioner when you first get into the shower
and leave it on to deep condition while you do your regular shower routine.
Then shampoo at the end of your shower.

You can do whatever variations suit you such as holding the length out and
backing your head under the showerspray to rinse the shampoo out if you
plan to shampoo twice for example. If your scalp is dry you could apply
the conditioner to the scalp as well as the length before you shampoo (provided
you have a conditioner that can be used on the scalp). The final conditioning
is optional but I think it is good to do to ensure you cover any demanding
areas that may have been missed or that the shampoo disturbed as it was
rinsed out.

You would use this method on most washing days but skip the first conditioning
whenever you felt the length needed a complete cleaning. The conditioner
DOES clean hair so you can do this as many times as your hair feels good
continuing with it. Some buildup will occur, but build-up of conditioning
ingredients can be protective.

When my hair was bralength was the time when I began to find it difficult
to have long hair. The length just got so tangly no matter how I washed.
Since then it's been one experiment after another with many successes and
many failures. I think this method will help others who experience problems
finding the right products.

Usually the problem is finding a shampoo that isn't too drying for the hair
but works well on an oilier scalp. I think this method will work to improve
the performance of your products, whether they are standard synthetic products
or natural ones.

Note from Martine: Some of My Favorites
I normally use products from one line together and that's only because I like to use "brand systems" not because they can't be combined because they most certainly can.
My current system is Lush and I've been using only Lush products for several weeks now. Unfortunately in the Lush conditioners there are no heavy ones but I've had very good success with the American Cream Conditioner.
Keeping in mind that I normally use brands together as I mentioned, the heavier conditioners I like and recommend are:
Aussie 3 Minute Miracle
AO Islands Spice, GPB and Sea Buckhorn & Egg
Nature's Gate Herbal Original

The lighter detangling/sealing conditoners that I like are:
Infusium 23 Moisturizing
AO Swimmer's Conditioner
Aussie Real Volume (beautiful floral scent!)
Aussie Moist (not sure whether this is heavy or light but it's detangling so I'll put it here)

From A Maiden Be-Curled (The Curly Girl Method - from Dulci)

November 9 2003, 4:54 PM

Thanks Dulci for this Book Review:
http://www.network54.com/Hide/Forum/message

Curly Girl Book Review:
"Curly Girl: more than just hair ... it's an attitude: a celebration of curls: how to cut them, care for them, love them, and set them free."

By Lorraine Massey with Deborah Chiel
First Printing January 2002, ISBN 0-7611-2300-8, 148 pages.

I paid $9.95 at my local Books-a-Million.

Find it online here:

http://www.bestwebbuys.com/books/compare/isbn/0761123008

This is a very interesting book; this lady really knows the trials and tribulations of growing up with curly hair. I mean, she really gets it, she grew up like I did when long, straight hair was the ideal. She claims that 65% of women have curly or wavy hair, and she wants to teach these women to love their hair and learn to work it instead of against it.

And while this book is not specifically aimed at longhair care, there is much in here for longhairs to consider.

Included are washing and styling routines for different types of curls; how to choose products; home recipes; African American hair routines [including a well illustrated way to "straw set"]; how to Cut curly hair [this chapter alone is worth the price of the book]; how to color gently and sensibly; caring for curly kids; some great easy updo's; and more.

She explains that curly hair is much drier and more porous than straight hairs. An interesting fact is that the average curly head has 100,000 hairs as opposed to 120,000 on straight heads. Because there is less hair, there are fewer follicles and fewer sebaceous glands to produce oil.

Her system for typing curls differs from Andre's System (Types 2, 3 and 4) [see Andre's system here: http://www.bbahneycomm.com/longhairlovers/hairtype.html. She described curls as Corkscrew, Botticelli, and Wavy, and includes care routines for each. She also addresses the "Spring Factor," or the tightness of your curls. [This is why I measure my hair soaking wet, I am interested in how long it is rather than how long it looks that day LOL. ] How to check? Pull a strand of dry curls down to its full length. Mark the spot with your finger and let go. Measure the distance from your finger to where your curl naturally ends and you have your Spring Factor:

9- to 12-inch spring = Corkscrew curls
5- to 8-inch spring = Botticelli curls
2- to 4-inch spring = Wavy curls

If your hair is shorter than say shoulder-length, your spring factor would be about half of the figures above.

Ms Massey's hair care routines will not sound so revolutionary to many on this board, but I can see that these instructions would be very surprising to the general population. She says Wavys will have to cut back on how often they shampoo, but she recommends that most curly girls throw out the blow dryer and all their shampoo, and follow a conditioner-only wash routine.

I have been following her routine for Corkscrew and Botticelli curls for 4 days now, so I will briefly outline that one.

WASHING

Stand in the shower "as if you're standing under a waterfall." Resist the urge to scrub your head and disarrange your hair's basic shape. Take a half teaspoon of your conditioner (she does not like 'cones for curly hair) and start rubbing gently at your temples, go under your hair to the top of your head and finish up at the nape. She reassures the reader that the combination of friction, water and conditioner will remove everything that needs to be removed without stressing your scalp or hair.

Take another quarter-sized blob of conditioner and smooth it over the outer layers, the "canopy" of your hair. Take another small blob and gently work it under your hair at the nape. Work another small blob through the hair at each side of your head. Fingercomb through your hair from underneath, and don't worry about losing too much hair, 100 hairs a day is normal. The idea is to distribute the conditioner through the curls so they don't fuse with each other.

She says at this point, your hair should feel almost like "wet seaweed," and eventually you will instinctively know whether or not to rinse the conditioner out. If you do rinse, let the shower spray fall over your head for just a few seconds to evenly distribute the conditioner without removing all of it.

She also included a recipe for a weekly scalp exfoliation scrub, which I tried and liked very much.

1 Tablespoon Brown Sugar
3 Tablespoons conditioner.

Wet your hair, make the paste, apply to scalp and massage in a circular motion starting at nape and moving upward. Rinse thoroughly, then continue with the conditioning step.

DRYING and STYLING

Bend forward, cup your hair loosely in a towel and scrunch upward. Continue all around your head, remembering to treat your hair like a fine sweater.

Take a tablespoon of clear styling gel, rub into your palms, bend over and let your curls fall free. Starting at the ends, scrunch the gel in towards the scalp, using an "accordion" technique. Start scrunching at your nape, work around your head and do the canopy last.

Go to the mirror and start shaping your curls. Push them up, squeeze and scrunch them into shape. Twist them around your finger and clip. If you like the way your hair looks now, you will like the way it looks when your hair is dry. Take another little blob of gel, rub your hands together and gently graze the canopy to minimize frizz.

She also gives a technique to add some height at the crown, involving those small metal rectangular clips, which worked very well for me.

She prefers air-drying, but recommends using a travel blow dryer [it's weaker] and diffuser if you don't have the time.

Now is the hard part, leave your hair alone! Do not touch it for an hour or it will frizz!

When it is dry, fluff and shake your hair from underneath. Don't touch the canopy!

Also included is a routine to freshen your curls if you don't feel like showering or going through the whole routine every morning.

SOME COMMENTS

While I have followed this routine for only four days, I got some impressive results. My scalp is very sensitive, but I have not had any "itchies." This may be because I have washed every morning for the past 4 days [I normally wash about 2x a week]. My hair seems "fluzzier" than normal, but she explains that it will take 2-3 weeks for the hair to get used to this routine. I used GM 60 second conditioner, and aloe vera gel for the scrunching [I know nothing about gels, can anyone recommend a good non-sticky one?]

My hair fell in long ringlets and waves. I pulled the sides back and up with small combs, and while this looked kinda like Paula Jones' hair before her makeover , I could see myself wearing it like this to the once-a-year company dress-up dinner. Another trick I liked was to take a one-inch section from behind each ear, bring it back behind my head and tie in a granny knot! I was surprised that this stayed all day, it controlled my hair and kept it from falling forward in the way all the time [I'm not used to wearing my hair down at all], and the knot was easily undone that night!

VARIATION FOR WAVYs

This sounds alot like Martine's CWC. Wavys may choose to use shampoo, but only once a week. Wet your hair as above. Applying conditioner from mid-shaft to the ends. If you are using shampoo, put half teaspoon (no more) onto fingertips and apply to scalp and roots only, starting at forehead, rinse thoroughly. Add another half teaspoon of conditioner, work into hair with fingers and rinse quickly.

Blot and scrunch as above. Scrunch gel as above. She includes a few more styling tips if you want to encourage more waves or more curls.

HOW TO CUT CURLY HAIR

This chapter was the reason I bought the book. For years now, I have described to stylists how I got my hair cut 20 years ago in Memphis, TN, and they thought I was crazy. Ms. Massey described the technique exactly as I experienced it.

First the customer is seated in the chair with dry hair. The stylist examines the hair carefully, paying attention to every curl; the condition of the canopy, what the hair underneath the canopy is doing, if the left side is curlier than the right etc. Next, the hair is thoroughly wetted, washed with conditioner, scrunched and dried under a heat lamp. Only then are the scissors brought out!

Each curl is "read" separately. Some need only a little trim at the ends to reduce frizz. Curls fall into a natural "S" shape, and "S" shapes are simply "C" shapes reversed and sitting on top of each other. She cuts the curl at the beginning of each "C." Some curls are have a thick and heavy top layer, which weighs down the curl underneath. In this case, she will divide the curl in half, and trim the inner curl shorter in order to support the outer curl and add volume. This leaves the hair with more natural looking ends than what we are used to seeing on straight hairs.

She says in general, it's better for her client to leave the salon upset because her hair is too long rather than too short [!!!]

Ok, I am going to end this now, I have written more than I meant. It is a very interesting book for Curlies and I recommend it highly!

[ps, Ouidad is releasing a book on Curly Hair Care in June 2002, some online bookstores are taking pre-orders now...]

Oops! Important omission:
I neglected to add an important point in the Curly Girl washing routine..

The author explains that curly hair is much more porous that straight hair, and that the detergents in shampoo are very damaging and hard to completely remove. This is the reason she recommends washing curly hair only with a non-silicone conditioner.

She says while weaning yourself off of shampoo, you may want to wash your scalp with small amounts of conditioner twice a week . Afterwards, you will find you need to wash your scalp with conditioner only once every 7 to 10 days . On non-wash days, simply apply conditioner as described on and under the hair and rinse briefly.

The author claims that the combination of running water and the friction from your fingers is enough to clean your scalp on most days...

The way I wrote it sounded like she meant for Curlies to wash their scalp every day with conditioner, sorry!

My biggest goal is to grow my hair long. Thanks to the tips from friends old and new and a favorite hair fairy or two, my hair is already very healthy and I am aware of habits and will maintain those habits to keep it that way. Now Iw ant to focus on getting back my length.

Goal
Classic length! I'd love to have ringlets all the way down my back that I'd have to move just a little to sit down. (lol)

Hair Idols
Dearest of cousins Man'al! The now gone rose, Ofra Haza. And of course ALL of my hair fairies!

My Story
My hair was always fine and even a little thin as a child. Frequently lost due to childhood ilness but by my teen years lots of length and a beautiful texture. My parents were very old-fashioned. My mother did my hair until I married. My mother made my hair in always 2-4 braids daily, 2 braids for special occasions, 2 ponytails for special photos or weddings. When I got a little older she'd do it one braid. When I entered high school, I was allowed to graduate to a single ponytail anytime I wanted. (wow- lol!). I wore my hair loose only for very special photos and weddings. My hair remained around mid-back.

I married, got independent and free thinking and tried lots of stylish layered cuts, a bob, a Euro do', etc. I was surprised though at how thick my hair became from keeping the ends trimmed tho' I was gaining no growth since I kept changing styles.

1990s - Various illnesses prevented me from ever regaining my length but I met various friends and salons over the years. Erma was the first. I went to her twice a week. She was great but often became more than a little annoyed with me that I never wanted to change styles or cut my hair. We moved back home and I met Bree. She was wonderful and did an excellent job! Alas we returned to the States and I missed Bree terribly. But oh joy of joys, I met Lisa! She was fantasque and she loved long hair and was just as excited as I was that I would have it. She had a special method that did wonders! I was in love with my hair and it grew and grew and grew to my elbows. But suddenly - guess what? Lisa disappeared never to be seen nor heard from again.

2000 - I was torn. I didn't want to lose my hair but felt completely helpless. I searched the web for tips and info. I found LHL. Hmm... Neat place! But the very same day I also found a salon and made an appointment. My troubles began.

It was a long terrible day. It ended with them wetting my hair and it was an all day job as 4 pairs of hands holding tiny combs attmpted to "untangle" my hair. I was miserable and in pain all morning. After that was done they insisted that due to the stress on my scalp of the hours-long comb-out that my hair was terribly damaged and needed to be cut. I was so tired but finally I agreed that they cut only the damage! Nothing else. They complained a little b/c my hair would of course be uneven. But I didn't care. I was determined to hold on to my remaining length, no matter the volume. They then told me about a procedure called Greath Lengths to even out my length. I agreed. Uh oh.

Long story short, the adhesion from the procedure as well as continuing illness and my hair was 0-2" total. I refound LHL and spent all day there as I leanred so much. I was miserable that I had ever let them cut my hair at all. I learned a lot about vitamins, scalp massage, and so many things!

June 2001 - My niece started doing my hair - trensas which worked beautifully for me. I could daily wash, etc. She would take it all down and re-do it every 4 weeks or so. She was amazed at the consent and continuously fast growth! It turned out that my niece was terrible busy by the fall and she was very apologetic but she simply wasn't able to keep it up as she was starting school in the fall. I found another salon of course. I loved their do's but we had only one language in common that was actually a 3rd language for each of us so I never really got past the communication problem and was also often tired by the full day commitment that often involved sitting around waiting. But there were lessons that were learned on this journey.

Vitamins
GNC UN, GNC Biotin (5 mg. total), MSM-1500, Silica, EPO, FSO, Silica, Vit. E and Vit. D. I heard something about add 22 g. of protein per day to your diet. I'm not a vegan but I'm not sure if I truly get that much tho' I did switch to Ensure +protein rather than the regular brand I had been using. I still think now and then of adding Natrol to my program. That provides me with the extra iron as well as potassium but I have a hard time swallowing and it's not always easy for me to stick to the vitamin routine. But if I make a habit of it I can do it.

Lessons Learned About Myself
Low maintenance and independence is likely most key to my goal. My hair is best when it's left alone. It does very well when vitamins are taken regularly and consistently. I a learned about build-up, the use of rinses, products, ingredients, etc. and made them a part of myself.

Product Review
Wanakee - Loved this and loved her method as well as her philosophy. Internet ordering bugged me a little b/c I would have preferred if I could find a product at Sally's to use. But my hair did very well and it felt wonderful. But the co. changed hands and I was a little uncomfortable after that.

Mega Tek - I heard a lot about this and learned a lot about it from the sites. I actually liked it and I felt that it really helped fill in some of my thinned and even balding areas very quickly. But I didn't like the strong smell of coconuts.

WGO - It's GREAT! But the smell! Oh my. But I did like the texture it gave my hair with a good brushing. And if I mixed it with lots of myrrh it really was okay.

Ouidad Curl Quencher line - Another great line that I liked so very much. It created beautiful curls for me and it had a heavenly smell!! Mmm... It was kind of expensive however and again, internet ordering!

Monoi - I liked this a lot as well and so did my skin. Not sure why I didn't stick with this for long.

Pantene Curls line - I liked this b/c I could get it at the local store, but honestly, I wasn't impressed.

Suave - for CWC and CO - I liked this ok too and it's a good product but again I just wasn't impressed. Maybe I'll just have to stick with internet ordering to get what I'm seeking.

Morrocco Method - LOVED this! But very expensive, I felt it didn't come with enough oil, and no deep conditioner. I'm not sure that my hair really needed a DEEP conditioner or if it was just a mental need b/c my hair did look great. Loved the Diamond Crystal Mist. It made my hair in beautiful ringlets and it was all natural. And their customer service was great.

AO - I tried this only once or twice from a sample a hair fairy sent me. I liked it. Great smell but I kinda really like the kits best.

Fave Product
Ouidad or MM - which to stick with? Both have starter kits, tho MM starter kit is probably most efficient. Maybe I should stick with MM and add in Ouidad Deep Treatment. I hesitate to mix products tho'.

I think this is The One:
Louise Marie LongHairs...lots more below.

Suggestions to Self-

Scalp Massage
Stein method is the best and can feel tingle all over throughout may whole face and neck and down my spine. But it takes time to do the complete Stein method and I don't do it often. I usually just do a quickie before I go to bed. I heard a.m. is best for massage so I need to commit to that.

Vitamins
Take all in the a.m. or I'll keep putting it off all day due to dread and end up skipping it for days on end.

EOs
Lavender, Rosemary are my favorites. I heard ylang ylang was great for hair and I tried it for a while but lavender is really my fave. Myrrh is also a fave scent as well as hibiscus. I've always heard from older friends to brush hibiscus oil into my hair. It was great in WGO. Jojoba oil is the cleanest of the oils. My hair liked it a lot. So I think I'll alternate Infusion 23 and JO and go back to that for now for daily leave-ins. But I'll watch for and note build-up or matting esp. since JO is a wax oil and I23 has cones. Never had a problem so far, however.

Salons
More independence is a great idea for me. I've often find myself lost as I looked for a salon or when my favoirte stylist moved away or left the field, etc. It's a nice treat every month or two. But I need to cotninue to learn to do my hair myself. I met Mary Louise recently and her method is identical to my dear Lisa's. !!! hmm... But do I want the expense? Using this method my hair truly grew its longest ever. Trensas may be better for me and the progress is not as readily visible with The Method so I'm not sure.

Final Thoughts
AS of 4/1/03 I had 23 in. which is not bad considering I started from 0" just shy of 2 years ago. But 10 more inches is a longggg way to go! TOo long and I'm very impatient! But pix would likely be a great idea. Since I'm a curly girlie to measure and see growh a photo record may feel better even if I keep it just for me. Vitamins and scalp massage are a great part of a routine. Occasional salon visits for a treat but only with someone who shares my philosophy and we speak the same language (in hair goals I mean.) Use a checklist and set weekly focus and monthly goals. Give attention to edges and ends b/c preserving your ends is where the length builds and grows.

Goal
Classic length! I'd love to have ringlets all the way down my back that I'd have to move just a little to sit down. (lol)

Hair Talk/Research
Good news! MM instant condtioner coming soon! (within 3 months!)

Made an appt. to see Jara on Sat. Won't be able to order rocuts until end of month or later . I have some MM poo remaining but no cond. sprays. So I can't decide if I want to do the order 1st but maybe Ouidad I'll start with since it's been a while and I can do a more valid comparison. I think I'll do the CO wash with the "cheap crap conditioners" for a bit until able to order coupled with the I23 and JO rotation as leave-in.

Order
MM and Curl Quencher DT. Think about SAMB, order herbs. Visit WW for herb info and rinses.

Pearls of Wisdom Woven....to carry always with you

June 5 2003, 10:18 AM

A weaving analogy that I wanted to save from the wise Olympia:

My best friend for years and years lives in Hawaii; he's always very upbeat and kind and all those wonderful things a person tends to like in another, yet just recently he was very down over somethng that had happened a long time ago that he's thinking on with a lot of regrets, something he wished he could undo. And when I responded, this is what I wrote:

"The past and present are composed of the tiny little details of one's day and weave the fabric of your life. I tend to see this "fabric" as a tapestry: Here there are a few black threads of sadness, but there are the golden threads of joy! Of course, there are lots of other colors of threads woven into the fabric as well, and while I'm not particularly fond of some of the individual colors, the tapestry as a whole is really quite spectacular...and how those black threads cause the golden ones to stand out and really glisten! If you try to pull out some of the threads that you don't like, the entire tapestry could unravel and fall apart. Better to leave them there and continue weaving, knowing that they, too, in their own small way, help support the whole...the whole that makes your own tapestry beautiful and perfectly unique, perfectly your own."

These words really moved him, and when I read your weaving analogy, I thought I'd share mine as well. Hope you don't mind.

Precious Jewels bestrung on silk to be upon her heart...

November 20 2003, 7:42 PM

There comes a time in every woman's life when she has to take a close look at herself. Not at her circumstance, not at what he did, not how unfair life is, not who made you do it, just at herself in all her glory and imperfection. For many women this is a scary thing because often times they don't want to know the truth about themselves. Real women know what I mean.

As women, we have a tendency to water one another down. Maybe it makes us feel good or look better than the next woman. Or maybe we just don't know how to tell that woman how we admire her.

Have you ever admired a woman who has been through changes in her life? Or have you made up in your mind that she is just messed up. Before you make this mistake, take a close look. A woman who has endured the most unusual life is someone of wisdom. Someone who has been chosen by God to go through. Think of all the great women in the bible, Mary Magdalene and Esther to name a few. Mary was a prostitute. A very uneasy woman. But by the time God was done with her, she was his closest follower. Esther was unfortunate in marrying an abusive man. By the time God was done with her, she married one of the wealthiest men in the land.

Have you ever admired the strength of a single mother? Or have you made up your mind that it's too bad she had children on her own. A single mother knows no bounds when it comes to her children. She is strong and durable. Single mothers are strong. Not because she has to be, but because it comes natural for her to protect the extensions of her very being. Her love for her children is like that of fuel to a car. Most mothers keep their tanks full because they understand if it runs low you could jeopardize the car and have problems in the long run. Other women only fill it when it is needed. Their cars usually break down.

Have you ever wondered why some women are not approachable? Or have you made up your mind that she is just mean. A quiet woman is a smart woman. She is valuable. She doesn't go off half-cocked and she won't be the one to argue with you over nothing. She just may even let you go on in your "setting her straight" and politely back out without a fight. She doesn't let many in her world. After all, she has probably been through the fire and had to rebuild. So why let just anyone in? This is usually the woman that only gives "small talk" and knows her place, which is away from all the unnecessary things in life.

Have you ever wondered why that woman is so loud? Well, hey she has a lot to say. These are usually our younger women who have to learn refrain. They are eager and unsettled. They do before they think and they do not think before they talk. They just go.

Have you ever wondered about that woman who appears to have everything, yet is still very unhappy? Well, she doesn't have everything. She doesn't have personal validation. This is something that cannot be bought. This is something developed over many mistakes and challenges that have taught lessons of the unbearable.

Women are so quick to beat the next one down instead of trying to hold her up. Before you wonder, "What's up with her?" Ask yourself, "What's up with me?"

Pass this to all the women in your life. Encourage and Love, Forgive and Forget, and trust that the woman that receives this will be touched in some way.

Upon Rising... Before Slumber..

November 6 2003, 9:05 PM

this post is to get the importants parts of my morning and evening routines down so I can cont' them as 2nd nature.

First here's a list of vitamins per day: GNC-UNH (2), MSM-1500, Biotin 5 mg. (2), EPO, FSO, Silica, Viactiv Calcium for Women (2), Natrol+Iron.

Dosage: I take the vitamins a little at a time in the mornings. I heard the B-type vitamins should be taken with lunch and that the MSM and the silica should be taken at night. Other meds I take as prescribed.

Detox: I have a cup of hot water with a lemon slice before getting out of bed. I like to open the curtain 2 c the sun come up as I give thanks. I hrd this hot lemon water is a grt detox and to wait at least 30 min b4 shower. I eat the lemon slice whole 4 the vit. C.

Massage: I sit cross legged at the foot of the bed, drop my head near my ankles and do a Stein method massage. Then I rise.

Exercise: I do what can be a 10 up to 30-45 min. ballet barre and centre barre. I do as I'm able followed by a shower. Its much better 2 stretch in the morning this way. I don't feel as achy later on if I'm able 2 do this early a.m. Smetimes tho if I feel esp good I start even earlier so I can take a long walk then make my way home with the sunrise. Then I do the ballet barre before showering.

A steam shower is perfect on those good days. I wanna try tying a handkerchief soaked with an EO onto the shower rod for an aromatic room.

I have a pot or 2 of herbal tea (horsetail herb or peppermint... hibiscus or hyssop) as I dress and throughout the morning. I take the vitamins a little at a time all before lunch..except the MSM and the silica which I hear are best taken at night.

and then there are not so good days...
well on those days... I try to simply count my blessings and do as well as I am able until it ends. I write ltrs...read Little Women...tell myself stories...and say this too shall pass.

At bedtime..
Before shower I do a ballet barre...usually port de bras only for just a few min. then I shower - lavender or myrrh or jasmine.

I brush my hair properly tending to scalp care before I treat my ends. I'm going to braid before bed from now on.

I have a soothing cup of tea (honey vanilla chamomile or rose petal or lavender) and take my MSM and Silica. then I curl up. I don't sleep much but I try to ready for bed relatively early. Hubby will sometimes do a foot reflexology for me before he goes to bed.

Then I pray for tomorrow and wish for sweet dreams. Ni'nite...

Once upon a time, there lived....

November 20 2003, 7:35 PM

This came from a poll on another Board but I thought it might be fun to include here. Just kinda me stuff.

1. Where are you currently? Where are you from? (whatever you are comfortable sharing)

Missouri. Israel is home.

2. How would you describe your hair? (please use both the Fia system and/or layman's terms for those who aren't familiar with it)

My hair is an odd color I suppose considering my eyes are black. It's kind of a reddish brown some call it molasses or mahogany colored (Mommy calls it chestnut) with lighter kind of auburn-y highlights and rather golden highlights at the ends (it's all me, I don't color it, tho I used to darken b/c I thot it looked strange).

Fia: 2C/3B-C/Fiii (My hair is strangely fine but surprisingly thick. It's wavy with tight corkscrews at the nape and spiraly at the ends.)

3. What is/are your favorite food(s)?

Cheese

4. What are your hobbies, besides manic hair care?

Ballet, ballet, and.... ballet! I also like finding everything I can...from clothes to appliances...in pink. I love Victoriana and redecorating in that style.

A ballerina

17. What are your favorite books/authors?
