The statements by British prime minister David Cameron to close the borders to Greek citizens in case of a potential exit of our country from the common currency have caused strong reactions in Athens.
Foreign Minister Dimitris Avramopoulos called the British ambassador to express the displeasure of the Greek government in response to Camerons statements, according to Protothema.

Avramopoulos instructed the general secretary of the ministry Ioannis-Alexios Zepos to call the British ambassador in Athens, David Lunchman, for a meeting today, in order to point out that these statements may create a false impression, complicating the efforts to consolidate confidence, which is essential in order to tackle the economic crisis in Europe.

Earlier today PASOK called the British prime minister to refute or disprove what he allegedly has said. An excerpt from their statement reads: The United Kingdom, which is not a member of the eurozone, is interested so much for the unity and stability of the eurozone that it threatens with police measures violating all the principles, fundamental freedoms and the rules of European law. It would be preferable if the British prime minister would give further explanation for the information on manipulation of the basic interest rate (LIBOR) and if he were to take care of the financial issues of his own country, which even though outside the eurozone, he wants to establish as the financial center of the eurozone, rather than making insulting remarks or comments that create fake agitations in the markets.
