ATHENS, July 2 (Reuters) - Greece struck a 400 million euros ($564 million) deal with France to buy 15 Super Puma search-and-rescue helicopters, which are made by EADS, a senior Greek defence ministry official said on Thursday.
'The government has decided to buy 15 Super Puma helicopters for 400 million euros after talks with France,' the official, who declined to be named, told Reuters.
The deal was clinched at the end of June, the official said.
Greece and France started talks on the Super Puma helicopters as well as over six Fremm-type frigates earlier this year.
'Talks to buy the frigates are ongoing,' the official said.
Simmering tensions with neighbouring Turkey have kept Greece's defence budget high.

I can tell that phuckface, but nevertheless thank you for pointing out the obvious....the point of my question was if the NH-90 is the future multirole helicopter of choice for the Greeks then why not order it for SAR purposes also...you see what I am getting at phuckface!

You stupid fvckface, the Super Pumas are already in service for SAR duties. Since more helicopters are needed, the obvious choice was to get the same type.

Nobody guaranties that "our" NH-90 will be delivered to Greece , eventually.
So we go for the logistically better solution, and the quicker one by ordering Super Pumas. Besides you need to pay for state of the art electronics, carbon fiber bodywork just for SAR purposes, that would be ridiculous.
I am just worried about the frigates and their usefulness once the Turkish Navy gets it hand on the 6 U-214 it ordered.

You're such a cum loving whore my little Armenian, time and time again I've owned your ass and yet you come back for more abuse...answer me this question, if it makes sense to buy the same type of helicopter for SAR duties, then why isnt it the obvious choice to use the same chopper for utility purposes!!!

"NH-90 are not utility choppers , they are planned for assault usage. The specs for SAR , or MEDEVAC, or firefighting are different. "
Only 4 of the 20 NH-90's are to be operated by Special Op's the remaining 16 will serve with the army as utility choppers.
FYI the NH-90 will be used for SAR/CSAR purposes by Germany, Spain, Italy, Oman, Sweden, Norway....with one or two exceptions thats pretty much everybody that ordered it.
