Special forces police officer murdered, family alleges
Behçet Oktay, the head of a Special Police Forces Unit who is alleged to have shot himself in February, was murdered, according to his sister, the daily Hürriyet reported Wednesday.
ule Oktay said she is basing her claims on the analysis of gunpowder found on the hands of another person who was with her brother the night he died and the autopsy report.
Oktays autopsy report said seven of his ribs were broken and that cocaine was found in his blood. Gunpowder was not found in Oktays palms, but it was found on parts of his hands. According to an analysis of Halil K., who was with Oktay in a car when he died, gunpowder was found in both the palms of Halil K, yet there was no gunpowder elsewhere on his hands. In earlier testimony, Halil K. had said he did not touch the gun with which Oktay killed himself. According to the experts report, for gunpowder to be found in ones palms, an individual must either touch the gun are be in close proximity to it during a shooting.
Oktays sister, ule Oktay, who said she has never believed that Oktay committed suicide, also doubted that her brother was using cocaine. The report leaves Oktays family with many troubling questions. First, if Oktay was left-handed and a professional police officer, then why would he shoot himself in the right temple? Second, why was the gunpowder found on Halil K.s hands not investigated? Third, why was the bullet that Oktay allegedly used different from the bullets he normally used? Fourth, why did he have broken ribs? Fifth, why was his telephone record not investigated? Sixth, Halil K.s testimony indicated that Oktay had shot himself outside of the vehicle; if this was so, why did the police minutes indicate that his body was found inside the car?
Halil K. is the brother of Nergis K., Oktays girlfriend of eight years. In her testimony, Nergis K. said she left Ankara because she was afraid of the way that Oktay became aggressive when he was drunk.
